  • If you've ever considered signing up for a print on demand site, in particular Redbubble, but weren't sure if it's worth your while, this video is for you! I'll go over all of the pros and cons of selling your artwork on a site like Redbubble, and hopefully by the end of my video you'll know if you should sign up or not! As great as Redbubble sounds, it might not be the right fit for everyone, so I'll be breaking down why I like selling on it, what could be better about it, and some examples of things I've experienced during my time on Redbubble (and similar sites). Let me know if you have any other pros or cons for Redbubble that I haven't thought of, since I probably won't have the same outlook I had when I was just starting out! Either way, I highly recommend trying Redbubble out for yourself and seeing where it can take you!

      Redbubble spends more time censoring critics than they do addressing the mass intellectual property violations in their marketplace. It's more profitable to pay an employee to monitor social media than to remove content that they KNOW is intellectual property infringement. Redbubble has a long and sordid history of going to court with copyright holders instead of moderating the content. The reason for this is simple; they would lose MILLIONS if they actually removed the violating content. Other POD companies such as Threadless, Spreadhsirt, CafePress, Society6 and Teespring all use proprietary software to purge known copyrighted works before they are even uploaded. Redbubble has the means to do the same thing. Martin Hosking CHOOSES not to use the software. They know exactly what they are doing. They know most copyright holders won;t pursue litigation and the ones who do will be tied up in court for so long that the company will make millions on their works before a judge orders its removal. This company hides behind "third party" status and tries to claim the copyright moderation is the obligation of the shop keeper or artist uploading the design. They refuse to take any responsibility for it. No other POD company on the market behaves this way. This is a terrible company and if you are shopping or selling on this platform YOU are part of the problem. You are enabling these people to steal from other artists and copyright holders. Many artists try to dismiss this by telling themselves "everybody does it" or "Redbubble is doing the best they can to prevent it". Neither of those statements is true. Every POD company DOES NOT do this. And even if they did, how does that make it right in any way? No, the truth is, the people selling on this platform need the money and they don't want to sacrifice it over morals and ethics. Folks, this is why the world we live in sucks. Everybody wants to virtue signal and pretend they care, but in actuality it's all just about image. Redbubble will be the first to make a post on social media about blacklivesmatter or LGBTQ rights, but then they allow mass intellectual property theft on their platform and rob people every day. Does that seem like a company that cares to you? If you are selling or buying on Redbubble you are part of the problem. This company could not exist if you didn't shop or sell here. Plain and simple. These people don't lose any sleep at night over the outright theft of copyright. But if it became a societal issue that they could slap on a shirt and wear around town to show everyone what wonderful human beings they were, they'd be all about it. They'd wear this cause like they wear LGBTQ rights or Blacklivesmatter. The faux outrage would be off the charts. But they can steal copyright all day without your average person knowing about it. Suddenly being a good human isn't their identity. It's what you do when nobody is looking that defines who you are. And this company doesn't want you to see who they really are. That's why they spend more time trying to censor blog comments than simply removing the copyright protected works from their marketplace. They can't even deny it.

      I literally only have a platform on tik tok and I have about 56 followers, many of whom can't buy stuff online, they are kids. But I started with redbubble early this year, boosted it with one post, got no sales, kind of forgot about it, until late July, when I made my first sale and I started marketing more than ever. So really, the platform isnt always a factor. Not for me anyway.

    Hi! Thanks for the video! I was startled by this term on the site "When a product is sold through the website the sale is between you and the customer - Redbubble acts as your agent in this process. In order to act as your agent, we need your explicit permission." Because if the sale is direct from me to the customer, does it mean that the invoice is generated by me or am I wrong? Here in Brazil it is like this, if I sell it, I generate an invoice, I was afraid of this information, since the commission is low, can you clarify if it works that way? I have a company in Brazil and I generate a note of everything I receive, I just couldn't understand if on redbubble I generate a note of the total sold to the final customer or just my commissions for redbubble. if anyone can help me thank you.

RB can be kind of sketchy and seem to call the shots randomly. I had to send a mugshot, like a common criminal, in order to try and get my account reinstated. After reading other artist's reviews, as well as customers, I'm glad this happened and I'd only uploaded a handful of images. I won't be dealing with them in future as an artist, nor a customer.

    I see so many Redbubble creators using their own fonts to make designs of song lyrics and I would like to do the same for some of my works but in Redbubbles copyright rules they say a license from the owner must be received if you are using someone else lyrics, and since you can't get a license from a celebrity, I'm not sure if I should go ahead and publish them? Has anyone been copyrighted/sued for designing song lyrics?

      Words cannot be copyrighted - however phrases that are easily recognizable (eg: ..."Never gonna give you up") can be used if they are trademarked. DYOR on a product to see if its trademarked. Phrases that you make up are fine. Sure sometimes someones gonna have inspiration for something that just so happens to be copyrighted, but thats gonna be rare.

    Hi Alex. I have been on Redbubble for about a week or so now and everything has been going great until this morning when I got an email from them about the fact that my latest design, (a shot I captured of sun light and beams coming through trees) was "flagged and is currently under review". I have about 61 designs on my page and I've never had on flagged. It felt like a kick in the stomach. Have you ever had one of your designs flagged and if so, how long did it take for them to get back to you with a "decision?" Just curious?

      @AlanForde-CheyneMS Před 3 lety

      Just a heads up, I was where you are this week and had about 62 designs. One of my designs were flagged just like yours, and then I had another design taken down, they said dont re upload or they suspend my account, so I didn't and focused on other works. Then a day or two later they suspend my account....no warning, no email

      so far I have had a couple flagged but they put them back on. What really made me mad was that someone said it was their design but I have their permission to put it on,when it was my own design I made myself from scratch. and I keep getting emails saying that their partner is not interested in my design, what ever that means. But I made 2 sales recently.That was the biggest surprise of all. I have over 100 items on, and I have been on the site two months.

I am an artist that does Canvas work, I don't create multiple pieces of the same artwork I just create one original piece. if I upload my artwork to Redbubble does that mean they are going to create my art peice on canvas multiple times? Or will I be able to sell my own original piece? From what I'm getting they create everything for you?

      Redbubble's enforcing of this issue is much like big tech social media platforms. It is completely up to them, they don't have to explain why they have removed your content, if you push harder they can even ban you from using the site. Plus people who steal artwork then send RB onto your page so that their stolen material makes sales and you end up making 0.
