    Wondra was aptly named evidently. Julia was so encouraging and positive. Can you imagine requesting a 100 pound bag of pastry flour from your local Kroger, and then telling them you'd like five pounds, please? WRITING to a flour mill to order a bag? We owe the culinary pioneers of the black-and-white age a great debt of gratitude for the variety of ingredients we take for granted today.

    I love watching her cook. I would substitute softened butter for the salad oil. . . most "oils" we have today are really not good for you.

    Is American flour different to UK flour. What is all purpose flour ? Bread, self raising or plain flour ? Really like watching these videos.

    • @sharonpack8547
      @sharonpack8547 Před rokem +1

      All purpose is hard wheat with no baking powder or salt added.

    • @sallybrown7854
      @sallybrown7854 Před rokem +1

      I presume that means what UK calls Plain Flour. Thanks. What does USA call flour for bread making?

    • @blakelanders6966
      @blakelanders6966 Před rokem +2

      @@sallybrown7854 We call it bread flour. It has a higher protein content and some brands will give a protein percentage on the bag.

    what a faff lol 'That's the first 4 rolls of the 430'. Wonderful communicator though. We had someone called Fanny Craddock in the UK at around the same time - she was famous as a celebrity cook but her cooking was nowhere as inspirational as Julia's.
