This Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 S AMG is a 577HP Nutcase, and I Don't Care That it's Not Really a Coupe

- It very much annoys me that Mercedes-Benz continues to call this thing a coupe, despite it obviously having four doors. I'm not a big believer in a car identifying as something it isn't, and a four door car should just let itself be a damn sedan.
That said, this 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 is fast enough to make me not care. 0-60 in the low 3 second range, 11.8 for the quarter miles, and a top speed of 186 - all in what could handily be used as a big, heavy family sedan. We have definitely just lived through the gilded era of the modern muscle car.

I really like these 4 door "coupes" ,I think the proportions are spot on. 4 door pillarless hardtops are another favorite from the 60's.

CLS continues to be one of my favorites. I had a second Gen CLS 550. That I installed a tune in it and it was very quick. I now have the last of the CLS beast a 2018 cls 63 s model amg. This one with the ecu and the performance diverter installed is an absolute monster. The car will just straight out, out run most any other vehicles that challenges it. Car is alot of fun and classy as hell also. Benz hit it home with these units.

It is considered a coupe because the roof line of the car is solid, so when you open the doors the windows are not framed. That is why the car automatically keeps the windows open slightly when you close the doors. It relieves the cabin pressure and then automatically roll up.
The reason the windows open slightly is so that the glass clears the roof line when opening and closing the door.

I always thought my 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Classic hardtop sedan had a difficult entry for adults to the rear seat because of the curved side windows. Always ran the windows down for that.
But these 4 door "Coupés" beat these sedans by a mile.
Now that I'm pushing 40, I actually love 4 door sports sedans simply because I can sit my kids in the back and enjoy the thrill together, there are better than a 2 door sports coupe. That is why I OWN this car. Simply exhilarating TORQUE Monster, that turns heads every time.
Currently have a stage 2 2016 CLS400. Will be selling it for a 2016 CLS63 soon, can't wait. Tune off the bat to get it to 750hp/850 pound feet.

I got a cls55 amg..I changed the pulley, icu,slightly modded the intercooler and it boosted to 598hp 607ft lb torque…..man it’s killing them tires…fast as hell tho…imma change it back to stock…these cars are beasts.

Hey Bill! Did I see this very car in Saint Pete beach being driven today? Couldn’t be two exactly alike could there?
The reason they go with all wheel drive is nature of that horsepower coming at one and impacting balance. Old AMGs were naturally aspirated so power came in a linear consistent manner and even with rear wheel drive you can control that type of power as opposed to turbo stuff.
Top speed 186 mph? That's cruising for the high-speed trains in Europe and Asia (300 kph). And Bill wound it up to 125 on the freeway, about the speed of the Amtrak Acela here in the Northeast.

The low roof line and small windows define a Coupe … not necessarily 2 doors - so they say … but I agree with you - 2 doors is what most people consider a coupe
A guy I know raced a 2019 GT 500 and blew its doors off. He has a 2015 Mustang with a 3 liter supercharger on its 5 liter engine. Yea the sounds and vibrations do make you drive faster, just feels better faster. That goes for other things too!!

I’ve seen other reviewers/car enthusiast say it’s called a coupe because of the styling, which makes sense. Yeah it’s a sedan but it gives off a coupe vibe from certain angles.
