It isn't. I really never got why anyone had trouble with it. If the rest of SMG2 is very easy, then the perfect Run is just easy. I mean there isn't really much that can hit you, since you can just shoot starbits at enemies like the octopuses to keep them from shooting you. The rest of it just needs you to think about you jumps more carefully.

Years before the start of the game's story, a prophetic book known as the Dark Prognosticus was written. Many sought to learn their futures from the book, and it was later sealed away as its dark secrets were not meant to be known.[citation needed] The book was stolen for unknown reasons by a group known as the Tribe of Darkness; they hid from the world and forbid marriage into other groups.[citation needed] A member of the tribe, Count Blumiere, fell in love with a human girl named Timpani, but Blumiere's father banished Timpani, wiping her memories and cursing her to wander between dimensions forever. Enraged, Blumiere murdered his father and the entire tribe, stealing the Dark Prognosticus for himself and renaming himself Count Bleck; Timpani would be found by the wizard Merlon, who saved her life by transforming her into the Pixl Tippi.[citation needed]
To enact the book's prophecy of the end of all worlds, Bleck recruits four minions: Dimentio, Mimi, Nastasia, and O'Chunks. Bleck abducts Mario, Luigi, and Peach, along with Bowser and his army. He forces Bowser and Peach to marry, which unleashes the Chaos Heart and creates the Void. Mario is teleported to Flipside and is tasked by Merlon with collecting eight Pure Hearts, which are necessary to defeat Bleck and save all worlds. Peach is teleported from Castle Bleck to Flipside, where she joins Mario on his quest. At Castle Bleck, Luigi is captured and hypnotized into serving Bleck as “Mr. L”. Mario and Peach later encounter Bowser, who joins them.
In Sammer's Kingdom, the heroes are unable to retrieve its Pure Heart before the world's destruction; they return to the ruined world to find that the Pure Heart has been drained of its power. Dimentio appears to kill Mr. L; in Flipside, he does the same to the heroes. In the Underwhere, where the "game-overed" reside, Mario finds Luigi and visits Queen Jaydes, who restores the Pure Heart and informs them their game was not actually over, returning them to Flipside. The two return to the Underwhere to find the final Pure Heart and are sent to the Overthere, where the good "game-overed" are sent; the two find Bowser and Peach, who rejoin the party.
With all eight Pure Hearts, the heroes travel to Castle Bleck. Inside the castle, Bowser and O’Chunks are seemingly crushed, Peach and Mimi fall into a pit, and Dimentio appears to kill both himself and Luigi. Mario and Tippi confront Bleck alone; Tippi reveals herself to be Timpani, but Bleck refuses to end his plan. The other heroes return and defeat Bleck by using up the power of the Pure Hearts. Bleck, returning to his Blumiere identity, urges the heroes to kill him to destroy the Chaos Heart and avert the apocalypse; however, it is seized by Dimentio, who seemingly kills Nastasia and brainwashes Luigi into serving as the host of the Chaos Heart. Blumiere and Tippi are teleported away, and the remaining heroes appear overmatched without the power of the Pure Hearts; however, the love between Blumiere, O’Chunks, and Mimi restores their power.
Dimentio is destroyed but leaves behind a shadow of his power to ensure the Chaos Heart can finish its task. Blumiere and Timpani return to the wedding altar and marry, which causes the destruction of the Chaos Heart and the restoration of the worlds that had been destroyed. The heroes, along with O’Chunks, Mimi, and a revived Nastasia, return to Flipside, but Blumiere and Timpani are nowhere to be found; O’Chunks, Mimi, and Nastasia pledge to create the perfect world Blumiere promised to make. In a post-credits scene, a man and a woman stand on a grassy hill.

Count bleck wants to end the worlds with the book because he lost his love, and has four minions. Mario and co. have to find the pure hearts to stop him before the worlds are devoured. Mario's partner is revealed to actually be bleck's lover, but dimensio betrays him and uses luigi as a vessel to cause destruction. They defeat him and the lovers sacrifice themselves to save the world.
That is it, that's what the story is about, anf you can clearly see it's not that complex nor long

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is easily my favorite game of all time. The reason is simple, it just does everything right.
Grandiose atmosphere, solid tight controls, adventurous gameplay, gorgeous visuals, taking full advantage of the gravity mechanic, beautiful soundtrack, pays respect to the original in full, fanservice galore, atmospheric final level, excellent replay value.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not just the perfect Mario game.
It's my favorite video game of all time.

Honestly I was shocked by how much fun I had with this game. I played Sunshine obsessively growing up, I was enamored by Galaxy 1 and Odyssey is basically everything I ever wanted from a Mario game.
But somehow none of them are quite as enjoyable as Super Mario Galaxy 2. I just looked at the list of Galaxies and there are so few levels in that game I don’t thoroughly enjoy. The power ups are without question the best set of power ups in the series and the level design is just ingenious. And the music, while slightly less epic, just feels more fun somehow and even more whimsical than the first game. And having a level each from Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy 1 as well as a Sunshine themed original level just makes me smile every time I play them.
I don’t know for sure if it’s my favorite game, but it’s one of 4 games I think could hold that title (along with The Thousand Year Door, Hollow Knight and Minecraft).
I love it too, and I don't really understand the negativity Galaxy 2 got. Cuz it is one of the fun games I've ever played.

+MarioMiner003 Its all about practice. Get some mental breaks if you are feeling frustated, and dont be sad if you die a lot. I 100%ed Super Mario Galaxy 2 two times, including beating The Perfect Run, but I suffered a lot to get through. Heck, I actually took a break from it the first time for OVER A YEAR. But at least now I can say I`ve beaten The Perfect Run twice, so that`s good. XD

Still makes no sense. There wouldn't be time enough for the characters to rearrange and celebrate a Star Festival when Bowser nearly killed everyone and began his tyranny only a few hours or days before.
The main thing is that time is not the same in Mushroom Kingdom as in other places, I believe.
Scalchop Warrior actually scientists have a theory that relates to that. Believing that the big bang has happened multiple times. Essentially recreating itself.

The first one is my favorite game ever. It tugged at the nostalgia strings hard, had unbelievable music, phenomenal gameplay, level design, a semblance of a story for once, and was beautiful to look at(and has aged very well), and I had to wait five years to play it - and got to play it during a tough point in my life. Galaxy 2 has my favorite Mario level - Perfect Run lol
I'm so glad you didn't go on a rant about how bad the green star challenge is, like it seems pretty much everyone else on CZcams has. I've seen a ton of people who b*tch about how it's stupid and doesn't add anything to the game. Personally, I really enjoyed in. I thought the green star challenge was ingenious, a scavenger hunt, having you go through all those galaxies again, this time on the lookout for those emerald jewels. The game is fantastic, and definitely the best 3D Mario game, perhaps the best Mario game of all time.

Well, overall it is a good idea. But some of the green star locations are so simple and easy that it gets kind of ridiculous after a certain period of time. Not to mention the fact that the levels RESTARTS every time you get a green star. That doesn't mean that some of the green stars aren't really great, but you have to admit it's not perfect.

Yeah, I do like searching for the Green Stars honestly. And I like replaying all the the levels just cuz they're all so fun, especially if they add something new like a Prankster Comet or like I said - the Green Stars.

Didn't the SMG1 showed that the universe got recreated at the end? Maybe it was reborn a bit younger than the before, so the second game happened shortly after. And all other continuity problems can be explained by bowser having the ability to control Space, and by consequence, even reality by some stretch

I liked how player two is now a Luma, and how even after completing the game trying to beat your time on each level is an option. But the first Mario Galaxy game had a more involving storyline, and the levels felt a lot more like locations rather than obstacle courses.

The soundtrack is one reason why I wanted to play this game, the third area is just amazing!
Sigh... the one and only time we will have an ironic yet seemingly fitting power up that turns luigi into his worst fear, ghosts. this is why I have named a few accounts of mine as ghost luigi. only in 2 (I think) levels can you ever find this occur. and even then most people don't go for it because it is such an odd thing that is for the most part unnecessary.
This is no doubt my favorite incarnation of Yoshi. This was a great episode.

Loving the Biggie reference especially the music every time the purple star appears.
Btw for the story, the reason why a star festival happens is because at the end of Mario Galaxy 1, Rosalina reset the universe and said that every time the cycle repeats, but something always changes. This is that timeline, in it, Mario Galaxy 1 never happened. And this is the changes version of Mario’s journey. I hope it makes sense.

It's been 9 years since its release and I still didn't know that the Prankster Comet in Grandmaster Galaxy was unlocked by giving Bank Toad 9999 star bits. I just happened to have given him the star bits because every thousand star bits he would change his outfit and dialogue and as a kid I found that amusing.
This series is the series of my 2 favorite games of all time.
I prefer smg1 over smg2, I don't know why but it feels a bit more like super mario 64 (WHERE'S MY HD REMAKE NINTENDO!?!)
PS: The Ghost Mushroom was in SMG1 it was not a new addition from SMG2

The super Mario galaxy series was one of the first series I 100%. Both games were an amazing journey when I was 8, and they still are fun to visit some of the game's areas, along with messing with some of the glitches. I love this game to death, and will be one of the most memorable, and favorite games of mine. The music, characters, story, and game play are all amazing and nostalgic to embrace again. And thanks Completionists for covering my favorite series of all time :,D

In the ending of smg 1 SPOILERS the universe was reset meaning the star festival hasn't happened yet so this does make sense

I played galaxy 1 and 2 when I was younger and this video just brought back serious memories that I had as a child

To be honest, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was my very first Super Mario game I've fully completed. My goddess it was crazy. But the last galaxy, the Grandmaster Galaxy Daredevil drove me nuts. It took me between 30-46 minutes to beat the final level and get the final power star. I felt very proud fully beating it, so freaking happy. Now I'm gonna hug my Mega Lucario pulshie and relax while watching let's plays in CZcams.
Too many Mario games I need to play! Awesome video. Can't wait for the next!

Hell yeah brother!!! Galaxy 2 is in my top 3 favourite mario game of all time (that include 3D, 2D, sport, RPG and other spin-off)
The other 2 being Mario kart 8 deluxe and Mario&luigi bowser inside story.
