      I believe the word you're looking for is "kill". We harvest wheat, corn, and beans, not deer. We kill deer...and I totally agree with you. Let's hunt ethically, and leave the trick shooting for range.

      @jimmoseley2983 Před rokem

      @@ronin6158 It's simply. He can shoot and you can't. Mike has to verify every rifle before shipping. That means he shoots regardless of rain, sleet, snow, and 100 degree weather. Rifles are shot out to 1000 yds before shipping. My longest kill shot on a whitetail is 1102 yds.

    That Elk like a lot of long range kills that drop immediately was a shot somewhere in the spine. Nobody on these long range kills shows the bullet impact. In this video there appears to be no bullet holes ANYWHERE in the kill zone. I’m sure at 925 yards you aren’t picking out a spot on the spine. So what I’m saying is this like a lot of loooooong shots includes some luck. Please be careful calling a shot outside the targeted kill zone that happens to hit something producing a fatal shot an excellent or great shot. Or maybe it was an excellent shot and stupid utube rules make you clean it up so no blood or gore. Anyhow I recognize that’s a heck of a shot and a nice Bull. Congratulations.

      willepadille7 I'm so about heavy for caliber, but at that distance I would also worry about expansion. 160 grains or more with an exposed lead or plastic tip. The new 175 ELD-X from Hornady is perfect.

      @@andrewmiller1761 if you think that any cartridge that is chambered in a rifle that is light enough for hunting in the field is capable of reliably killing large game at 900+ yards, you're sadly mistaken. It is impossible for you to know all of the variations of wind that could effect your bullet's flight at that range. At 900 yards, a clean kill involves a TON of skill...but even more luck. That's all well and good on the range. It's not appropriate in the field. Btw, the minimum energy figure that is most commonly excepted throughout the hunting community to cleanly and reliably kill elk is 1500 ft-lbs. Most cartridges are far below that at 900 years. Can a bullet with less energy drop an elk on the spot? Yes. Have elk been killed with .22s? Yes. Does that make hunting large game with underpowered weapons wise or acceptable? No!

    Really good until inappropriate cheap urban lounge music starting around 3 min; Other music not much better. Around 14:40 music barely Ok 15:50 again 17:30, not too obnoxious Bottom Line: minimize music, none best, or very low volume if you figure it contributes something that you feel is part of the story?.... My opinion certainly... but how many people would complain that there is no music, just the sounds of nature, the hunt, the excited comments of hunters... I actually skipped through, rather than watched the video, because of the music ... too bad as I love you guys!

      I hunt Utah public land. The terrain is very similar to this hunt. We hike in and even so encounter other hunters. We respect them if they get there ahead of us. Back off and Hunter the next drainage. I am 75 and hunt with my boys(men) we use binoculars and spotting scopes. The majority of our shots are 400+ to 930 yds in the past 15 years. Rarely have we been in bow range situations. We do bow hunt. However during rifle seasons getting close is with so many hunters is difficult to say the least. I am a retired disabled Marine Combat Veteran of Vietnam. We shoot allot at and in extreme terrain. Zero at 100 on the bench. For elk we adjust to a 300 zero. A month before leaving for the hunt we only shoot long range off of bipod prone and everything else off of backpacks and adjustable shooting sticks. We pair up as a shooter/spotter team. Range our target and time permitting fail up. However we use NF with holdover hash marks for fast shooting encounters. Practice and knowing your dope, rifle. and equipment makes the difference. We bone out the meat and backpack it out. Every shooting situation is different. Mike Davidson had awesome conditions with no wind. We'd take that shot every chance we get! Congratulations Mike.

      If your confident in your shooting, absolutely take the shot.
      I heard a hunter with a .30-06 start lobbing bullets at a herd in northwest new mexico, over a mile away just hoping one would fall. Drinking and smoking the whole time. That's unethical. He lives in Alabama now.
