  • Anno 1800 is a city builder game with a big focus on economy. It's latest DLC The Passage just released as part of the Season Pass - It unlocks the Arctic Session and I absolutely love it.

So even though I'm basically a full generation behind Anno is absolutely in the top 10 of the first games I'll be downloading. I've kept an actual list during the period and it is over 400 titles with 50 must haves.
    If you're ever bored and interested in playing a weird, 90's era builder that practically nobody talks about anymore have a look at Constructor, I loved the art style and tone when I was younger.

    This is why I strongly dislike the DLC's route they took since 2205. That game had the problem as well that there wasn't much interaction between the DLC sessions and the rest of the game. Kinda sad that they did this again with 1800. I'd rather have them make one big expansion as they did with 2070 and 1404 and then just have things interact more and make the distribution of resources more challenging.

    So imagine this racket: Ubisoft pushes this dlc on every game owner/player, whether they like it or not. Then if they don't pay for the dlc, their existing base game suffers unexplained damage and refuses to run. If they agree to pay for the dlc, their base game magically resurrects and their can continue playing. So, pay for dlc or lose your existing software. It would be a wonderful scheme if Ubisoft could keep it quiet, or make it seem like "bugs". Hypothetically speaking of course.

    It might be the best DLC yet but gives nothing but few more hours of play. It's flat as any advantage of expanding in Arctic is that you can get gas for power plant that require no trains - yet another thing that makes base game easier. By why would you want to expand Europe region further? There is no reason so these gas plants are only for those who want to build endlessly in sandbox. This game should let you progress to new era maybe, or let you work towards some great wonders, monuments or accomplishments - this is missing there. No additional depth or difficulty added unfortunately with this expansion. This game needs an expansion like Deep Ocean was for 2070.

    -more building, crops, production chains etc.
    -different buildings and population types for the AI and vice versa (possibly different routes of who and why we should ally or destroy to get those resources)
    AND less on sooo many fishes, animals etc.. I put that down once and then put down the game cos there is nothing interesting in putting a fish down on a square.
    Different cultures and production chains would have kept me playing more and longer!

  • @Schmorgus
    @Schmorgus Před 4 lety +1

    *Ubisoft has gone crazy.*
    Anno 1800 is almost exactly like Anno 1404, but with transitional maps instead of "all in 1".
    Only differense is better graphics...
    Atleast they could've added the function of roads like in Tropico, where the buildings snap to the road and can curve... But no...
    This game is an "easy" _(if you work with development on this level)_ to create game with prebuilt functions for Blue Byte to work further on.
    It's sad that Ubisoft exploit gamers for it.
    And to top it all off, they hold parts and release them as DLC's just a short time after original release...
    Because €100 isn't enough for a copy/paste game with extra graphics...

    • @RepublicOfPlay
      @RepublicOfPlay  Před 4 lety +1

      I’m not sure how you can call it copy paste when you also mention the transitions between sessions at the same time. Thats a major technical difference. Further, the game design is much different to 1404, in 1800, your population tier can only work certain buildings - this is a huge difference as in 1404 you can have no population but still have workers in buildings. In 1800 you can’t have production islands with nobody on them because of this. Then there’s the expeditions, the influence mechanic, the co-op and multiplayer, dynamic time of day/lighting none of which are in 1404.

    • @Schmorgus

      Mr Schmorgus wow it’s almost like since 1602, back in the mid 90’s, the game was about creating a settlement, on an island, and you... wait for it. Progress. And guess what? They make a new game every 4-5 years and get this. It’s almost the same base mechanic but... wait. For it. A theme change in the year it takes place. Relax. This studio of Ubisoft has made amazing games over the years you’re entitled and sad

    I used to love Anno games. Can't play them anymore because they are a major time sink. And they are all so similar that eventually I got bored of them. Much like how Creative Assembly keeps releasing the same Total War game. No innovation.

    Lamest dlc..like none of the resources you can get here is too essential in old world..sure the arctic looks nice..but keeping your people warm is pain in the butt..plus the basic buildings like charcoal kiln, timber,caribou camp and farms, they demand lots of spaces..so it's not the best dlc because it's not boosting your main island and it doesn't give you great advantage..

    This kind of game should be perfect with utilization of multiple cores. But it probably uses 2 at the most like pretty much every other game.... Wasted opportunity imo.

      Cores shouldn't affect you being able to play it at 4K - resolution is predominantly handled by your GPU. The game runs really well for me with everything maxed out (except for AA) - but I only play on 1080p - I'm using a GTX980ti GPU and a i7 5930k cpu

    The "narratives" are terrible to begin with. This game has the worst writing in any contemporary strategy game, and that's unfortunately quite an achievement. Looks brilliant, though.

      Arctic story is actually quite interesting but very short. Agree writing is poor for the series. Also this DLC doesn't add any depth other than few hours of gameplay.

      Uhhh. Your comment from 4 years ago unfortunately, not true😅.
      It's not worst. I mean yeah sometimes kinda awkward.
      But it's YOU that need to change the mindset.
      The PLAYERS in EVERY ANNO GAMES especially here anno 1800, represents the company. Yes, company. Not a government or nation or something.
      Like Dutch VOC in Indonesia. It's a huge company.
