    can I ask you a question?
    when I do piping wall thickness calculation with all B31.3 (last edition) code considerations I get some answers without identified schedule numbers according to B 36.10 M-1015
    As example :24" with 20.62 mm wall thickness
    as you note this wall thickness didn't have a schedule number while (schedule 40 for 17.48 mm ) and (schedule 60 for 24.61 mm)
    can you kindly provide me with your answer and advise

      You have to calculate thickness using the B31.3 formula, and once you have a thickness, you can select the nearest available commercial size schedule.

      It is standard that decided. You have to go through history. I don't think there is any technical reason.

      The entire system is based on industry usage and not ease of use. All of the sizes below 12" are commonly used for fluid and gas systems and they rely heavily on the internal diameter to calculate flow. If you are needing round hollow tube for a structural system then you might want to specify "Tubing" which is measured strictly by OD and Wall thickness.

      Pipe with specific thickness ( Non standard) are non-schedule pipe.

      You cannot set the thickness of the pipe always according to mm conversion , if u do it will never withstand the assigned pressure because ID of the pipe is small it means the pressure distribution will have smaller amount of area to exert pressure thus it will burst it but it is not the case the pipe size over 4” because they have bigger inside area. I hope that works for u.
