    Thanks for another great video, the 308 and the 300 win mag are bough great hunting rifles. But if you want something hunting and target try the Savage 110 Varmint in 223 rem. It has a 26" heavy barrel, and is a blast to shoot. Very heavy but carry over the shoulder not to bad. But a fantastic bench or prone rifle, Free hand for you younger guys but at 74 a little heavy for me shooting off the shoulder. Thinking of getting a try pod for mine so I can shoot standing up with it. Again love your videos but where is you buddy, like the ones with the two of you.

    Both cold bore 308 shots were hard left… you may want to make sure your stock isn’t pushing. You could have it zero’d with a warm barrel but when cool the stock can’t push the barrel to the right. A friend had that happen, cold bore dead on but follow up shots crept left. Gunsmith had him try sliding a dollar bill between barrel and stock. It bound up. He had to sand the right side out of the stock and it grouped sub-MOA after that. Cool vid, thanks for posting, and nice shooters!

    A couple of observations: your .308 was sighted in about 1.5” lower than the 6mm Creed at 100yds. Makes a difference at 200. Obviously the 6 creed drops less at 200 but less significantly than this comparison leads one to believe…due to sight in.
    You mentioned there was “less swinging” w the .308. But you had something behind the chain on the .308 200yd test…..but it wasn’t there on the 6creed. Whatever it was it stopped the chain from swinging. These rifles are different animals. For hiking and climbing and going after hoofed creatures give me the short, light 308. For ringing steel at distance in a prs competition I want the 6 Creed. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I like your style. Very grateful for this content.

      Thanks for watching! Looking back, it does look like the 308 was low at 100. I thought it seemed to be a pretty drastic difference. There wasn't anything else behind the 200 yard target though. It was the same both times.

    • @milo555100
      @milo555100 Před rokem +1

      Take a look. When you shot the .308 there was a purple square behind the chain. It absorbed some “plate swing energy”. Wasn’t there w 6 Creed. Look at 10:50 vs 13:09.

    Very good video The Ruger American in .308 will kill a deer at 100 and 200 yards...no problems. The precision rifle can win you a shooting match on a range and it is could be used for hunting...although it is a pretty heavy carry. Nice presentation of what each rifle can do.

    Not much of a comparison, but I still enjoyed the video! 6.5 Creed is inherently more accurate by design, plus you shot it out of a rig that was at least 2 classes higher than the .308 rifle lol. Excellent shòoting at 200 with both 👍

    "The older cartridge" as you say, I find to be irrelevant. Under 600 yards, a .270 outperforms both of those. Just because it's now viewed as an "outdated" or "old timers" cartridge doesn't remove the fact that the .270 shoots flatter and hits harder than the .308. It's a damn shame that money and research is put into the 6.5 ammo versatility while the .270 is completely ignored. But the new fancy shit gobbles up the money from those who don't know as much as they think they do (that wasn't aimed at you, but it's a general truth among shooters).

    • @TheOldFatDadGoober
      @TheOldFatDadGoober  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching! The 270 is a great caliber, definitely one that I'm hoping to try in the Future. One of the touted benefits of the 6mm is similar performance with much less recoil.

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Před rokem +1

      @@TheOldFatDadGoober Absolutely, recoil has a bit more "oomph" in .270....but for a grown man, it shouldn't be an issue. Would I want to shoot 500 rounds in a day with it? Probably not. But I wouldn't want to spend $500+ in ammo in a day either, which is the case with any of these cartridges lol. But as a hunting rifle, it's top notch. You just don't really get anything stylish or semi-auto options for it.

    • @TheOldFatDadGoober
      @TheOldFatDadGoober  Před rokem +2

      @@Swearengen1980 It is a shame their aren't more rifle choices in 270. After shooting that 6mm I am a believer in the lighter recoil.

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Před rokem +1

      @@TheOldFatDadGoober I considered the recoil and have been contemplating adding a Creedmoor solely for recoil + semi-auto (4+1 gets old). Then I realize in the SE U.S., I'll never have a 1,000 yard line of sight in the woods or mountains, so what's the point? So I went with a 9mm carbine for cheap ammo and just plain old fun. The 5.56 with green tips for "Oh F" scenarios, keep the .270 strictly for hunting. And now this nagging voice wants an AR-10 .308 that will give me the semi-auto, hunting power, and still a little less recoil with the AR-10 platform. Not a Creed reduction in recoil, but sacrifices must be made when you're not rich LOL.

    • @TheOldFatDadGoober
      @TheOldFatDadGoober  Před rokem

      @@Swearengen1980 I would pass on the AR-10. I've had a few and they are always underwhelming. A good AR15 platform is going to scratch that center fire itch for cheaper, lighter, and probably more accurate. But that's just my opinion.
