Been using something similar to help recover from a torn meniscus and other running injuries for the past 4-ish years.. Therapists use it for injury situations. Works well but not cheap. In my instance, I use a climbing belt instead of shorts because it provides better support and you can try different type of climbing belts to get best fit and adjustment plus simple to put on. Type used is Lightspeed lift. BTW... that has WAY to much wiggle and give in the support structure and I don't see much way to adjust where the cords attachment locations can be centered on the support sections.

In similar products I have used, I ditched using shorts for a lot of reasons. In the end, I switched to climbing harness. I ordered about 6 different versions of climbing harnesses and found one that worked the best. Climbers have years more experience at building devices for supporting full body weight ... much less a small percentage of your body weight as used by the device. I also use various length bungy cords attached to adjustable heights to make micro adjustments to support vs. pressure (this includes how narrow or wide you make the connects of the bungee cord to adapt to arm swing preference).
The best bungees are made by boat part manufactures because they are designed to sustain long periods of stress in very hostile environments. This adds more consistency in strength thus reducing loss of elasticity over time. In general, the product has its limitations that over time I am sure will be developed to a high level of efficiency... but, that still doesn't invalidate the product as it is now.
This and similar products were and are primarily used for therapy. And, all training at some point requires therapy. So, there is a place for this sort of product. Therefore, it is like all devices. There is a time and reason to use it ... as well a proper way to fit and adapt to the need... regardless of training or therapy.

    • @drcaitalexander
      @drcaitalexander Před 3 lety

It is similar. Using the Lever system is closer to actual task of running on land, but lets you run at a decreased percentage of your body weight (and you can modulate it), which is really helpful for tissues that may not be able to handle the full load of 2-3x your body weight.

They had a similar machine at the sports medicine clinic at the university of Toronto except the belt was the top of a big air bag that inflated around the treadmill. I think that was AlterG. One time I was in the clinic and soccer star Jozy Altidore walked past to use it.

    Taren:
As a regular TT channel viewer, National Class class age grouper and Multiple time Team USA member, I think that your review of the Lever Running System does a real disservice to the Age Groupers your UTube channel serves.
Your review was off-base in so many ways. You barely explained the product’s purpose and the science behind anti-gravity running. I noticed that when you used it, you actually set it up backwards and failed to attach it to your treadmill properly. (Quite honestly, a pretty simple thing to do, this is not a complex product to set up.)
I personally have used the Lever to maintain running fitness and hang onto a competitive run while recovering from severe plantar fasciitis, high hamstring tendonitis, and multiple less serious running injuries. It is an invaluable training tool when used correctly. Especially for older runners and triathletes, as well as any athlete who is more prone to injury.
Given the huge amount of time you spend on the Channel pushing sometimes unproven supplements and other means of improving health, fitness, and endurance training, I am surprised that your review was so careless.
Over 40% of runners will suffer from an injury in any given year. Many of us entered triathlon as a way of staying active, maintaining a steady diet of endurance training and dealing with running limitations.
Anti-gravity treadmills are well-proven state of the art training equipment for many world class athletes-runners, triathletes, soccer players, as well as most college sports teams all use them regularly. I have used them too. They work. Very well.
Having used the Alter-G treadmill many times, I can honestly say that the Lever Running System, which costs a fraction of what an anti-gravity treadmill costs, is equally effective and comfortable to use when it is used correctly.
Taren. I love your site, even though I occasionally find some of the things you push a little silly. Given how serious of an issue running injury is to your followers, and the proven efficacy of Anti Gravity training in getting thru it, as well as the pretty quick and widespread adoption of the Lever among many professional runners and Triathletes, i would ask you to take a more serious look at this great product.
There is huge upside to the endurance training community in finding inexpensive and easy access to equipment the pro’s use to maintain fitness, recover from injury, or avoid injury altogether.
Your followers deserve a more thoughtful and complete review of a product that could really improve their running.
I can speak first hand. It has done so for me.

...could help. Versions of this device have been used by PT's for years. This is especially true for special need children or a person with visual impairment, balance or inner ear issues. Exactly how much help depends upon how much support is needed. For those with issues that may cause some sort of fall, the type of mechanical device that have a frame support and chest attachments ABOVE the person are best.

Not everyone has access to a pool like that. Pool running is also a little different than anti-gravity devices! For some injuries, like tendon injuries, rest is actually not the best. Tendons need to be loaded to heal. So if you can do modified running like this, under that tissue’s threshold, that’s the best recipe for recovery :)

First rule of business is to not blame the customer (especially a product reviewer), but rather establish feedback to accommodate the lowest denominator among users. At this point, it appears the only advantage the product has is its price point compared to similar products. Whether that difference in price equates to more or less value to the consumer is dependent on the how people use these sort of evaluations as a resource.
