You missed the plot. The "shock and awe" crude jokes that jimmy and them can do there won't go over well here. The political satire that Bill Burr does about how we allow our government to rule us etc. would not go over well there. He is saying that to him, jokes about things that matter are "better" than the crude dark jokes Jimmy Carr has. I don't necessarily agree, I think he is comparing apples to oranges here. I think Burr and Carr are masters of their craft.

The original Countdown was not made for old people, I have watched it from the beginning which was in 1982 and I was quite young then, a lot of the studio audience are mainly older people but the show has always had a young following because it needs a certain amount of intelligence to play at home and it is a game that you can join in with.

What is he talking about, mock the week mock the government every week, frankie Boyle and Russel Howard also do it, Sean lock does it on cats about the queen and thatcher, the last leg does it, Ricky gervais does trans jokes, has he ever actually watched any uk comedian?
I’ve also noticed something very recently about gigs in America, when someone tells one of those types of “jokes” (I use joke loosely as it comes across that they’re just expressing an opinion) the audience don’t actually tend to laugh they cheer and applaud it, they just love hearing shit they agree with and will cheer it anywhere.
Its also probably harder to do in the uk at a stand up gig without offending half the audience as in America the states and city’s are red or blue as they say so you’ll probably know when it’s safe to use that stuff where as in the uk people could be coming from anywhere you’re never guaranteed to have a majority audience that will agree with your politics and you don’t want half your audience potentially walking out.

Right-wing IS the establishment in the UK. And UK standup's surpassed most of the current US flock some time ago. US standup stopped stalled a long time ago. They write one show and tour the shit out of it for years. UK and Irish stand up's write a new show every year. And yep, Frankie Boyle is woke, as most decent people are. Why would you not want to be aware of (and sympathetic to) social/racial injustice? UK comedy is just more clever now, cheap laughs are a thing of the past. You have to understand comedy to get it though.

I’ve watched several of your videos & very much enjoyed them, but what got me to subscribe just now was when you likened Sean Lock to Norm Macdonald. I never thought about their styles being similar but I just realized they both have a flawless, seemingly effortless knack for making something hysterically funny, based solely on the absurdity of the concept. If you’ve never read Norm’s book “Based on a True Story” I’d recommend it. In fact, when you read Chapter 23, “Make a Wish”, you’ll see uncanny similarities to Sean’s seal bit.
