    I love looking at the little doilies that others have made. And I like the fact that you value that. It shows that whoever made those beautiful things it went to a nice home someone who would love it and appreciate it. Also, I want to comment on your cross stitch. Stitch is not like quilting as you know. It takes I think a little longer and it’s a different kind of a stitch. You will find as you finish the project, after a while no one will ever notice the white behind it because you’re not looking at that. You’re looking at the art itself the beautiful stitches that are there making the mouse, so don’t take your joy away from yourself from making the stitching because you see some white come through it. Believe me I have things that I made 30 years ago I never see my mistakes. One project I made I gave some of the thread to my daughter who is also making the picture. Her kit did not have enough thread. So I went ahead and gave her some of mine because I was burned out on the project. About 10 years later, I dug the project out I didn’t have enough thread. But I went and got some more matched it up the best I could for the life of me, I cannot tell which threads were replaced. This project‘s been done five years at least and it’s one of my favorites today. I’m always looking at it looking for the different dialogue. I can’t find it. And there’s nothing wrong with my eyes. It just takes time for things to fit in that’s all. So enjoy finishing all of it. She’ll love it. She’ll treasure it. And don’t take the joy of making it for her away from yourself because of something like that.

    Hi Rachel if you like the nightie which I think is very pretty why don't you add a lace panel to increase the amount of fabric. It would enhance it. Enjoy working your plans out.

    As for your cross stitch mouse if you find that looks as if you can see the fabric just add another strand of cotton, most patterns use 2 strands but it’s a guide and some look better with 3 . As a tip unless it’s a kit practice a few stitches first just as you would with crochet or knitting .

    • @stitchwithrachel
      @stitchwithrachel  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you, yeah he definitely needed 3 strands. He didn't turn out too bad though. I will definitely do a couple of practice stitches with my next project though x

    Rachel - Where the mousy cross stitch is concerned, are you using the full six strands of the DMC floss? If not, you might want to try that. Maybe less white will show. OR perhaps the cross stitch fabric is somehow not up to par....which may be why it was donated to a charity shop¿😉

  • @heatherpickle
    @heatherpickle Před 10 měsíci

    Lovely charity shop haul! I am a cross-stitcher and my guess is that you are not using enough thread. Since it's Aida and probably 14 ct. You should use 3 strands of floss to get good coverage. ❤

    • @stitchwithrachel
      @stitchwithrachel  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you, yeah that's exactly my problem! I had an experiment last night and 3 strands gives much better coverage.

    I rarely go to charity or thrift shops. I am trying to reduce my items due to my age. But they are tempting.
    That nightgown was beautiful. If it doesn't fit only on the lower part, you could insert a small amout of fabric in the side seams or even insert some pink fabric in a triangular shape from the bodice down front and back. I have done that when I couldn't pass up the item and the top part fits.
    I am a new subscriber in my late 60s in the USA.

    On the mouse pattern, what size Aida count is it ? How many strands of silk r u using? Unusual to have white showing x

    • @stitchwithrachel
      @stitchwithrachel  Před 10 měsíci

      It's 16 count I think with 2 strands, yeah I thought it strange too! I've have to double check the aida count though.

    • @maryt2887
      @maryt2887 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@stitchwithrachel I think you would need all 6 strands of DMC - at least 4. Try a test on the edge of the fabric to see what will cover sufficiently. It’s a very cute pattern, worth taking out what you have already done (I know-I hate taking stitches out of crochet, quilting, embroidery-but it’s worth it). Please show us when it’s done.

    • @karen1351
      @karen1351 Před 10 měsíci +1

      The Aida cloth looks like it might be 14 count. If it’s what come in the kit it probably is. Unfortunately you’ll see some white if it is but that’s honestly ok. Wait until you do the head and put some details in the face and it may turn out beautifully.
      If you choose to do the other patterns you could get some 18 count Aida and use two strands which then shouldn’t show any white. Using three strands on 16 count would work ok as well.
