    Question thought u shouldn’t run ground wire from amp to the battery directly??? I have a popping noise from my speakers when I hit my air ride switch is this bad ground??

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Coils (fill, dump vavles and compressor relays magnatize and cause a voltage feedback every time they are turned off or on. That is known, What isnt so known is why some audio sytems pick up that noise so much better than others. Typically it is ground issue but not always. Its more common on systems that use RCA cables. that are ran from the head unit to the amps. But again, thats not always the case. First thing I do is eliminate all body grounds/frame grounds. Then I put a diode acorss the positive and negative wires feeding the coils. The diode I use is the 1N4005. The diode has a stripe on one side that must go to the positive wire. The closer they are to the vavle the better they will work. This si the diodes amzn.to/4a4mtEa ...this is apretty common issue on harleys after installing air ride. And this is the fix everyone uses.

    Looks good. One thing you always want to disconnect ground first and reconnect it last on a battery. that way if you are connecting the positive connection and your tool or something happens to touch the frame or something that is grounded it won't short out.

    the internal pod bracing is there to provide rigidity to the plastic to keep it from resonating at certain frequencies. if you cut a hole in the pod to make more room you prevent resonance, and vibration, but you also prevent sound pressure behind the driver which causes bass loss. the best solution would be to make the pods out of a dead material, reinforce the plastic pods, or pack them with batting material to absorb resonant freqs.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Tim...sorry I missed this comment man...But no its all the same inside there. Biggest pain is to get those pods out to change the speakers. other than that swap them out and use the eq on the head unit to make them sound as good as you can with no distortion at high volumes. Distortion causes heat and heat destroys speakers.

One question, I’m wanting to junk my Boom Audio Stage II speakers on my 2019 RGS, and hook it up with all DS18 sound...what’s your professional opinion on the DS18 Pro’s? Very impressive sound quality? Would you buy it? Thanks in advance, and keep on slangin them vids brother! ✌🏼

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you Danny...Much appreciated. The ds18s are a solid choice for the price rage for sure. They only issue I have found is there are no 8" mid bass speakers for the 8" lids. Now that being said adding anything that can handle bass is fine...in the parking lot. Riding down the road youre not going to hear that bass at all. So adding a a decent set of 8ohm speakers and getting a 4 ohm or 2ohm stable amp so you can bridge the amp and add more power to them is the best route for a clean, loud sound.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Před 4 lety +1

      I have since found out they quit flashing radios unless its thier radio gear. The old "flash " was simply turning the internal amp off and also turning on the rear speaker wires that are under your fairing. If you have eveything hooked up now and its working just keep the bass turned down on the head unit, turn off the volume speed control and set your gains for your speakers and you will be fine. My SG had 10 speakers and 3 amps ran off the stock unit and it was fine. I never had anything done. I only suggested to turn on the rear channels but its not necessary

    • @sikbaggers

      The larger spade on the bikes wiring will be positive ..but a simple test can be done to find positive. if you have a volt meter, put it on AC volts and touch it on the speaker connections to find + and -. If you get +12v that is correct, if you get -12v that is backwards. This will help you identify + and - on the speaker.

    it...
    1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my
    Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker
    wire.
    2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only
    going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC,
    can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use
    the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the
    White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4
    channels to my amp RCA ?
    3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?

      @sikbaggers  Před 4 lety +1

      First, thank you very much for checking us out....much appreciated. Suggestions on amps and speakers really depends mainly on your budget sir. Fairing speakers that we install a lot of are the ground zero's, DS18, and PRV's ...and honestly as far as the tour pack backrest speakers I would try to pair those up with the same speakers. Im not familiar with this year/style bike as far as what comes stock in there for an amp or even if it has one? Id pull the outer fairing and take a peak around and see first. If you have stage 1 amp in there already you have 2 choices, use that amp and be stuck with pretty much harley or rockford speakers, which are garbage or pull it all and start over so you can use whatever you want. There is nothing wrong with the stock Harmon Kardon Harley radio...you can do what I showed in the video and run new amps and speakers.

      The 2011 more than likely has the 5.25 inch fairing speakers, start there by getting some 5.25 to 6.5 inch speaker adapters off amazon for about 20 bucks...upgrade to a pro audio 6.5 speaker. PRV, Ground Zero, DS18 etc about 200 for a pair is a rough price on pro audio. ....get a Sound Digital 800.4 EVOX 4 channel amp. This is a pretty basic major fairing upgrade from what you have in the bike now. Those speakers are about 35 watt speakers...the pro audios will be around 200-300 watt speakers...you and your passenger wont have any trouble hearing this set up at 70mph half volume.

    Man I love this video!!! but I’d like to clear up two things because I think this is why you are doing what you’re doing and saving people a lot of money: First thing is you don’t flash the system because you’re using a line converter… but that’s not going to get rid of the crazy EQ curve that Harley uses on the speaker outputs on there boom audio, your just stepping that signal down to line voltage but it’s still going to send that crazy eq signal to your new power amp instead of a flat signal...but that’s ok because we’re talking about a motorcycle and we don’t really need that type of fidelity like you would do with a car?....or do you still need to flash the system and get rid of the eq. My other question is the speakers are not coaxial just mids, where do you get the high end from or do the mids have a high enough hi end frequency to hear the hi’s that you need? and the same scenario applies where these companies sell you a bunch of BS and people just go way over the top with everything and tweeters that end up clipping and distorting at the volume that you really need when driving down the road on a motorcycle but what you really mead is loud clean volume so you can hear doing 60-70 down the road...it’s not about the fidelity it’s about being clean and loud… Is that the reason why we can just go with mids?
    Thx again for a great video...
    Dan

    • @motorcyclessoundsystems-mi2785
      @motorcyclessoundsystems-mi2785 Před 4 lety

      Dan Rider, I read everything in full and I will do my best to respond.
      1. Yes, the Flash is to flatten out the Boom EQ setting as much as possible.
      2. It’s Not OK to NOT Flash when upgrading your motorcycle audio, even if you’re using coaxial speakers with an amp that has a very good integrated Crossover, such as Soundigital, Triton-Audio, Diamond, etc. Not Flashing will cause the EQ curve to eventually ruin your system.
      3. Finally, Steve installed what’s considered to be a pro equipment setup. It is not a coaxial system. These are independent speakers that play at different frequencies, which are manipulated and control with a Digital Signal Processor. We installed Midranges in the front fairing, dual voice coil Midbasses on the lids, and Tweeter Drivers.
      I assure you, you will not ride at 90 mph on Steves bike with the volume over 60% because it is “Clearly” loud. The key word is “Clearly” If you have spent significant monies on an audio upgrade and are loud, but not “Clear”, you went to the wrong Shop or Audio Builder.

      Hey Steve...If you get the shallow mount..your bike has stock holes for 5.5 inch speakers and you will need to get the 5.5 to 65 spacer adapter which takes away some room in between your speaker and the outer fairing. You may already have the adapter in there if you're running 6.5 now but that is what you have to watch for...gotta be able to get that outer fairing back on and not hit the agent of the speaker.

      If you are going to put in an AMP then yes, you will need it flashed to remove the factor set EQ. The thing is I do not think Harley will flash it any more as they will only do it if you go to thier BOOM upgrade. However, you can look up a fosgate certified shop in your area and they can flash it for you. If you do not get it flashed and you hook up an amp then it may pop and sound like crap. If you go with new fairing speaker then I would look at mmats or better yet if you are not into modifying pods look ath the Hertz SX165 NEO SPL for fairing speakers and they are weather proof. Also make sure you use oxygen free copper wire. NEVER use CCA for wiring. And you may want to consider a DSP DSR1 from fosgate especially when you go to rear speakers lids later on down the line. Look at the sound digita; evo x 800.4 amps. Great raw power,

    • @motorcyclessoundsystems-mi2785
      @motorcyclessoundsystems-mi2785 Před 4 lety +2

      Factory radios on 2014 and newer Harley-Davidson audio systems use a “high fidelity” EQ curve. This EQ will cause excessive distortion with any amplified audio upgrade and will lead to speaker damage. Hence, “flash” your factory radio to remove this EQ. This has to be done with special equipment and by a shop who know, like us.

    • @sikbaggers
      @sikbaggers  Před 3 lety +4

      Well the 2014 doesn't require an amp and the 13 downs dont either. But if you are wanting louder you may look into one. Simply adding a different speaker isn't going to make it louder. Most single din after market radios have about 200 watts max average, depending on what radio you have...that's 200 divided by 4 channels. so 50 watts MAX...not RMS....RMS is actual power at normal listening..so now your down to about 35 watts RMS per channel. If you add 2 x 300 watt speakers you are still only giving it 35 watts...so its not louder. Add an amp and you are now giving your 300 watt speakers at least 200 to 250 watts and now its louder. As far as adding the amp, you said you already have an aftermarket radio...so there is no need for using the LOC ...the radio will have, or should have, 4 rca outputs on it..those go straight to the amp and then bare wire back to your speakers. Plus there are no pods to take out..your speakers are right there..4 screws, change them out...13 downs are so much easier. If you need any more help please let me know...but I hope this gets you going in the right direction.
