Don't know why anyone would want to, but we live in Illinois along the Mississippi, bordering, Iowa and Missouri in Quincy. When I was a kid, would go in creeks and along the river banks, with my grandparents. We found geodes and Arrowheads. There is a little island, called Quinsippi Island where we found some. I was around 8 or 9 so memories a bit fuzzy (64 now.). Quincy was once bigger than Chicago in the early 1800. It was a hub of sorts for the railroad and river travel Big German heritage. Their are lots of parks. Indian mounds and cliffs that overlook the river. If you are ever inclined you might enjoy it. Don't think too many metal detect here but surely there are Indian artifacts and arrowheads still around. We are only 20 minutes from Hannibal, MO. And 45 minutes fro. Keokuk, Iowa, the "geode capital of the world." LOL. Have you ever hunted along the Mississippi? We are 5 hours (thank God) from Chicago. Back in the late 1800-through Prohibition there were several German beer producers here. DICKS Beer was the most reputable. There are some local legends AL Capone even visited and bootlegged here, but no one has turned up proof, other than an elusive picture of Capone at a local business. Few have seen the photo and it may have been sold off. Anyway, if you ever run out of locations with history, we are here. Oh, the underground railroad was in Quincy also. It was right across the river, from Missouri and slaves would raft over and escape further north. A local lady wrote an interesting book about it, The Underground Railroad Ran Through My House by Ruth Deters.

You said It best chigg another awesome adventure. Every time I go out detecting or looking for relics on a new permission it's always awesome as well. You just don't know what you'll find. An if we only do find one thing it was worth it. It's finding that lost history even if it's just a old buckle or a common coin. If you didn't go you wouldn't have found it. Really looking forward to seeing a video on button beach. An you guys rechecking the cracks with all the silver an gold coins hiding in the cracks just waiting to be found. “Seeing a man about a horse” (or dog) usually means a person doesn’t want to reveal the true purpose of their departure. My great uncle would say it like he was going to “bust a grumpy”. I spent many childhood years in his blacksmith shop wondering what that was all about. Any who... Your Maine adventure has been awesome. Cpt. Great fun vid. Not really heard a Maine accent before. Landed there once back in Oct '81 after a Florida holiday and the plane needed to refuel at Maine before crossing the Atlantic to Gatwick. After 90f in Florida, it was about 20f in Maine. Pitch black when they opened the doors on the plane but that cold, fresh air was fantastic ! I seem to remember some Air Force planes there too unless I imagined it.
This is where I grew up! Well in Cutler. My uncle actually drowned in those falls in the 70's. Billy should take you down to Cutler to see the towers at the navy base up close. supposed to be pirate treasure at Money Cove there, me and me friends grew up looking for it but never found anything.
Bo, you need a plastic putty knife or a plastic squeegee to clean of the face of the magnet. That is not safe trying to drag sharp rusty fragments off with your hands, plus the rust gets into your skin and it's hard to get it out so it discolors your hands.
I was a clam digger in Harrington, dust down the road. You probably had to drive by my old place to get to Machias. Have fun up there. Try the fort by Bangor (just down river).
My late wife was born and lived in Denver. but after WWII, she spent a couple years living near Atlanta. She acquired a Southern accent and kept it to her dying day.

The water is that color cuz when salt water and fresh water mix the fresh water stays on top and makes it brackish looking.
