Exploring An Old Abandoned Granite Quarry On An Island: Everything Left Behind
Vložit
- čas přidán 7. 06. 2020
- Please join me, Billy and Thor as we journey offshore by boat to explore an island that once contained a booming granite quarry over 100 years ago. When they left the work, they left everything behind. It was an amazing place and so very interesting to explore.

After listening to that song at half speed I feel like I’m dying! 🤣
At this point I feel like I’m dying whenever I hear it🤢
Lol
This whole series has been just fantastic.
Appreciate it.
Me too!
Me, three... as I love downeast Maine...!
What a cool place.. Captain Billy has the best story time voice, love to listen him talk!
I loved everything about this adventure!
I've been diving quarries in MN for years... they're mostly quite nice, especially if they're spring fed. Clear water, interesting structure, lots of equipment.
Makes me so happy to see you enjoying my home state! There’s nothing like living in Maine. I wouldn’t trade it for all the gold in the world.
You should make challenge and see how long you can stay at the isolation house on the island off the coast of Maine by simply catching all your food. That would be a great videos
What an adventure you’ve been on in Maine! Once in a lifetime opportunity 👍 so cool
Loved the exploration of this island.
So much stuff can be upcycled
I love exploring 💖 I could just imagine all the men working there and all those loud machines running! Very cool place! Thanks for the adventure! Be safe and HH⛏🎧
Very cool. Thanks for taking me along on the adventure.
That was cool of Beck to guest star on the theme song!
Man, all those old motors...that was flat head heaven LOL
I've not been on CZcams for ages, great to see you have smashed the 1 million subs! Your river hunting back in the day was the best and got me into metal detecting. Keep up the great content. 👍
As usually expected, an entertaining and educational video from The Chigg, Thank You.
Captain Billy is very knowledgeable about all these little areas and Islands
wow that was awesome chigg,a blacksmiths dream island thankyou
The comments on this one are extra fun, Love ya Chig - this series has been so fun!
Dude you go to the most coolest places and share them with us...... very cool. Thanx Chigg for another great AQUACHIGGER ADVENTURE SEE YA ON THE NEXT
love the chigg and billy shows - you two are great together!
I could spend a week there taking photos. Very cool place and history. Thanks for the tour Chig and Billy.
Island looks awesome!!!
We swim in the quarry's here in Minnesota. They are clear, cold, and DEEP. 60 70 feet or more. You get on the ledge and jump. Some even have trout in them. Fun to see one in another part of the country. Thanks Chigg.
Thank you for sharing with us all. Love all the history and the different things you do.
holy sheep dip what's up with the end song... Too much whiskey with Billy?!
That song is painful enough at 1x speed!
when the weed hits
Gary Stone it’s grown on me, not really a folk music guy TBH. that’s what it is, right??
It's Fiona and Bobby Wobbs
Recorded at 45 rpm, played at 33 :)
need a little grease on the record player :)
I just can't get enough of Billy's accent and Beau's response. Kinda like Martin and Lewis.
I can almost smell that crisp, salty Maine air.
Thanks, buddy...
Awesome place. Another great adventure. I love Billy's accent.
Thanks 😉
Won't be long before The Island claims all the machinery for her own. Well, not longing the great scheme of things... Thanks for taking us with you!!
I’m in Maine & love watching your videos!
Hearing the outro song played slow like that is something i never knew i needed, made my day. 😂
Love these different adventures. A lot of history where you are. Thanks for the adventures.
Man, you really can't mess around on damp and mossy rocks
Love the videos with you, Billy, and Thor! Safe Travels
Hell no, I learned the hard way in Bar Harbor last year.
Yep what a great place to live and play.
I love your videos. You walk by so much iron and steel that I would live to salvage for use in our smithy.
Something beautiful about that old boat....such classic lines. Time marches on .....relentlessly.
Ive really enjoyed this series of videos thanks.
Be nice to see that place running again wow 😳 I’d like to see that
Very nice video, thanks for taking us with you !
Aquachiggers song slowed down, is nightmare fuel.🤣 Great video!
Hello A.C., sorry I'm late getting back to you since your "finally". Glad you kicked that idea into the alley🤗!!! Will we see more pinging and splashing🤔?? Love the pinging in the dinging (sorry, had to make dingey work!)...🤣 Hope all's well with everyone/thing! Have fun and be safe. Take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 👍👍🙏😇👊
This Billy series is great, love these videos.
The dogs in my neighborhood started howling at around 8:30 vid time .. Ye-Ouch! Reminds me of my tavern days just before closing time. Between the weed and whisky someone always started singing... Yeah, it was Free Bird...
Billy sounds just like my fam from Maine! Love the accent
He's been hanging out at the Drunken Clam!!!
Yes, welcome back!
There is a quarry here where I live, but no one is allowed to swim in the quarry. Divers went down there and one died. He got caught in a cable line and his partner tried to help him but he couldn't. He drowned. So please stay above ground. Quarries are very dangerous.
Awesome!! Thanks for taking us along!!! ✌🐢
Dang, Chigg .... What's the deal with your music in this video!???
I agree with you, but I have a feelings that Aquachigger doesn't look at the comments of his videos anymore. Has he replied to any videos recently? Don't think so.
Playing in slow motion 😂
Sounds very different, old Rick needs his key winding up. And no, Beau said in an earlier video that he gets so many replies for even 5 year old videos, he can't cope with the notifications. He is open to comments to some videos for 5 minutes and then turns off notifications.
Noo!!! I always play the videos at 2X speed so as the song he plays at the end sounds better. You tricked me!!!
You made me realize it...
Beau was talking at 2x while the music sounded slow and I didn't think twice about it!
Michael Inocente I thought I was having a flashback from my 70 era days. Lol
My family once owned and ran the Chase Granite Company out of Blue Hill, Maine.. Although it is no longer in operation my family still owns the land & the leftover relics from the days the quarry was still operational there are absolutely amazing to see!
Thanks for a great video!
Thanks for commenting.
Great cast of Characters - I'd be wanting to drain the quarry! Certainly shows how quickly Mother Nature can reclaim, when you think it's only be abandoned in Chigg's lifetime... 🤿🛶💰😉🐾👍🦘
Lots of what I consider treasure out there!!
I would love to live on that quarry....awww if only I had.money..lol..that would be so awesome.. The calm would be so wonderful
These are cool videos he is taking you all over that’s super nice of him.
It’s funny how Chig pointed out the skeleton boats and machinery but overlooked all those counter tops!
I enjoy you channel’s music (theme)
Thanks for mentioning the 1934 carving. I love finding old monikers carved in brick buildings out West here. Any old town will have them especially if there was a railroad
Rattle moccasin ?! You’re so funny Chigg 😂🤣
It's been a while since we have watched one of your vids! My husband and I live on our sailboat, sailing around the world... maybe we will cross paths out there someday. Cheers~
What a cool life, but I bet it can be tough too. are you still sailing?
You guys are lucky, must be no better feeling than knowing you can just zip off to your next destination in the blink of an eye. I'm jealous!
Awesome granite island adventure. It would have been awesome if you had a go-pro an your kayak, to drop in the black waters. Might have seen a sam squench. Lol. All that old equipment was really neat to see of a time period that has been long gone for some time now. An for it to just be out on an island all by its self. One can only imagine seeing all the guys putting in a hard days work, cutting the granite an getting it ready to ship out to its final destination. I'd say maybe go back an do some bottle hunting an detecting up in the woods. You just never know what's hiding in them there woods. Great video chigg. As always safe an happy hunting guys. Thanks for taking us along for the adventure. 😁👍👍
Don't usually comment, but that place is awsome. Would love to see that history, thanks for sharing, B.C. Canada.
Use the cables to cut the granite. Probably a death trap down in the water.
It shows the true American spirit!! Look at what the generations before us was able to do and accomplish, and we think we have it hard. Lol. Great video Chig!!
the slow motion music was spoooooky!!! LOL!! :)
the song played like that goes alone with the area and history. the area is a little spooky.
I wish I was mouse in your pocket and gog to go to all these super cool places with you in person.
I love Billy's accent. He sounds like an Aussie!
Interesting to see a Cadillac flathead V-8, of all things, @ 5:56. Would've never guessed they were ever used in an industrial capacity like that.
I’m surprised. Here in southern Indiana, the water in limestone quarries, out my back door, are crystal clear. Difference must be the chemistry of the rock. Further, I think Cpt. Billy is having a lasting affect on you. Which is a good thing. I’ve enjoyed seeing the Chigg as the student on this Maine series. Though a very bright student indeed.
Howdy, did enjoy the hike. Thank you. It's cool to see how the ocean air is totally cleaning the place up. Just like the Titanic. Its returning to nature also.
Wow! Still loving the history this part of our Great Country! Thanks for sharing
An EARLY HEMI !!!

Beautiful Rust ...

You get to see some cool places. I’ve been to Colorado a couple of times. We go up around Leadville in the mountains. Look at the mines I get to. Run into few people around there. I love it , hard to find places anymore away from all the people. Good luck on your future adventures .
this a very interesting place ,the affect of years and years of rain and wind and winter seasons especially that old boat , some year in the future the island will totaly consume every thing that was left there .
Wish you spent more time exploring the boat
He hummed a few bars, now he's slurrin' his words...ha ha ha...
Honestly Chigg this was creepy as all get out, but super cool too. Old quarries just seem like grim death to me. Maybe it's the blackness of that water?! I wonder how many quarry men lost their lives here? If you fell into that water, I think something in the deep would reach up and pull you under, never to be seen again! That gave me the shivers and no mistake!
Awesome place
Thanks for another great video
So cool! Would be cool to see some of those coins from the depths of the black lagoon
You should have dropped your magnet into that black water to see how deep it was.
You should try magnet fishing those waters Chigg.
Anyone know if Billy has a channel? If not he should!!! What a fascinating character.
Did you find Gilligan, I see the Minnow. 😂
😂👴he'd be old
Man, those were some old archbar trucks on that flatcar! I'm guessing some lucky railfan somewhere has those journal box covers in a place of honor in their collection.
In Central Vermont they swim in those quarries.
Thanks very much for ur videos I really enjoy theme .and yes it is a very special place. Be safe .
Interesting video! Slowed down music was distracting, even my cat noticed something was up 😁
I loved your "Theme Song" at half speed 🎶😌🎶😌🎶😌🎶
wow just wow
To me the place looks beautiful
Hahahaha. The half time “mother earth 🌍” was sick 😷 dude!
Turn the crank on that music 🎶 Mr chiggs nice walk about 😜👍
Ask your buddy to say No wake in the harbor LOL I’m in Tennessee we had a guy from Baltimore come down He ran a boat house in the harbor we would make wake just to hear him say it lol
I laughed WAY too long on “she’s a fixer upper” 🤣🤣🤣
Much of New Orleans is curbed in granite and basalt. The slabs are 8”x2.5’x8’ or so. Also, many of the old brick roads are built on granite block sub surfaces. The blocks are 5”x5”x8”. It’s incredible. I wanted to salvage a slab of granite curb I found so I calculated the weight: 1200 pounds. So I left it. Maybe all of that New Orleans granite came from Wood Island?
Awsome find
Chigg you are more and more sounding like a person from Maine the longer your up there! 🤣
You HAVE TO get some underwater tech to scope out under that water!
Nice out there for sure
Come on Chig, I will dive it with you!
