I have a question, after arriving at Raft's Utopia island, can I return to the ship and explore the next islands? Or do I have to start over from the beginning?
I love how Olof, the guy that took over utopia, caused the population of Caravan Town to fall sick, the guy who fled a hopeless crew on a lifeboat, is only in a cage with one lock that he can easily open
about as safe as the jailhouse in the Andy Griffith show, with Odis casually unlocking the door with the keys hanging in front of the jailcells on the wall, sobering up after sleeping, unlocking the door, and leaving
Hahaha I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. He could easily unlock it any time he wants.
I just finished the game with my wife and found the story to be quite childish. Ooh, there is a white guy. Let's put him in charge. Is everybody else incompetent?
And they let him keep his bombs in his pocket. Ha ha.
They also let him keep his bandleader of dynamite sticks. All he needs is one match and he is free to wreck havoc once again.

I thought bruno had kids who died to starvation, and to cope made the dolls.
I thought he died to the same cause until hearing of him in varuna point
Just an interesting tidbit I noticed in Utopia: If you stand outside the door the population is locked behind you can hear them speaking over the top of one another. The dialogue is just what they say after you free them, just very quietly and overlapping!

I remember playing through chapter 3. I wasn’t paying attention to the story, all I knew was that anytime Olof was mentioned in a note, I visibly scowered
I have discovered an interesting quirk in the software of raft. I created a game I named "Eden". All was going well with the game until I got to Vasagatan. In the yacht I started getting attacked by unknown assailants. All of the rats (or Lurkers) were invisible. I created a new game and started over. I named it "Eden II". When I got to Vasagatan I discovered that all of the Lurkers were invisible. I started a third game and named it "Waterworld". Everything is fine. I just find it interesting that the root name in both of the first two games caused the same glitch. Don't know if you are interested in this bit of info or not but here you are.
Try naming one called Utopia next might be interesting

Raft is a game that means a lot to me, and possibly my favorite part of it was seeing Utopia for the first time, and all I could think about then was how far the game had come since the first chapter update with the radio station teasing Utopia’s existence
I love the way that this game introduces all of the characters in the first 4 locations, gives them a backstory and then has them all arrive at Utopia around the same time. I love when a story is done that way.

Thank you for this excellent overview! I was quite confused (and creeped out) by Bruno's children situation. I actually feel much better about the island knowing there weren't any weird murderous kids involved, just the delusions of a man who lost himself to loneliness.

Given this story, I think it would be a natural step to have you develop utopia and determine how it should develop. I really hope there will be some kind of sequel to this, as I think the story is quite good, and it leaves room for the story to continue as it is.

Ngl, the relatively simple and cartoony art style threw me off, but after playing it I immediately fell in love with its simplicity. Even the "basic" combat is surprisingly engaging though the screecher is still hella annoying 😂. The building and farming is also fun to maintain, and the complex and well thought-out story is just a cherry on top of this masterpiece of a game. Raft is a fun experience

Thank you for this! I got so drawn in that a just played from Tangarora to Oasis for my first time in one sitting and omg what a good game. I didn't expect it to go from Stranded Deep to Bioshock.

The end of Raft's story is so annoyingly Utopian. You don't even get to kill the bad guy despite him very much needing to be killed.
He should have died when he jumped and said something epic before doing it.

Great video! On the story itself though, I've wanted to bring this up cause it's been bothering me since I played through the update and went back through all the notes. Olof's motivations don't make sense to me. Like, what's his endgame? What next after locking up literally everyone in utopia? Execute a bunch? Let some out to farm and whatnot under the watchful eye of your hyenas? How on earth are you gonna train your hyenas to do that, to ensure that people do their assigned work and nothing else? Also, they make a big deal multiple times about food shortages. Olof comments about others not being able to make the decisions necessary to survive. What is he feeding his giant animal army then exactly? How is that a decision that helps survival? I laughed when I heard that his reaction to discovering the lurkers was "hey, I can make a loyal mutant army out of these." Like, what? All I can gather is that he's mad that people are using the things he funded as an Investor, that he thinks they're ruining it, and he's just gone crazy about it? It doesn't really feel satisfying.
Olof is literally just an egotistical megalomaniac. He doesn't really have an endgame beyond keeping the power and status he had before the world ended. He'd likely just rule as a dictator trying to conquer what's left of the planet until his death.
I really don't get the story, and its pretty short.
I think Olof used to be a shady investor with malicious intent, and now has just completely lost it with no rhyme or reason for anyting he says or does.
This is very soothing--I'd love to see similar videos for games like FIrewatch and Gone Home
Why is every character named Bruno abandoned by family and driven crazy by self-isolation?

"There will be no future updates... but here.. these are the blueprints for the best weapons and tools in the game... and your raft... it's finally upgraded with two or three titanium upgrades because we made it such a bitch to find". I would honestly like to see DC where you can rescue NPCs and bring them to Utopia, like they imply you do now as a forward scout. arguably the most famous as you rescued everyone from a psychopath. What I also didn't like was that Olaf had a few good points, even if he contributed to caravan town's demise, people are sucking with the whole survival thing. He claims that it will fall to ruin like the past places you went because they have no idea what they're doing. I would have liked some additional content with finding things for utopia to kill off the damn beetles that doomed Tangaroa. The ending felt both too soon, yet final at the same time.
I think that Raft is supposed to have an ambiguous ending, with having all of the people from Utopia assemble and look towards an unknown, brighter future. For all we know, the flooding was eventually reversed.

I do pay attention to story in games, too, and I would like to add that Detto mentions Hyenas living in Caravan Town (mostly peacefully) before Olof arrives. They don't bother the people if they don't bother them.
What really boggled me were the playable characters you can unlock. I thought Tala was Owl and the Balboa guy one of the characters mentioned in Bruno's notes etc.... So it really confused me, when Sparrow wrote in the Temperance notes that Owl was a traitor.
😅I was playing Tala and shouting... HEY I am NOT a traitor!!
Now I really wonder about how the playable characters fit into the story instead. 😵💫
Also, I think the Grabber stole some of my stuff out of my inventory on Varuna Point, while I was fighting the boss. Did that happen to anyone else? Really creeped me out!!!!
I’m pretty sure the grabber is dead and decomposing inside of that shark’s tummy.
i really like the grabber, his story from veruna point is just so cool. a criminal in a world torn by natural disaster, relishing in his own thrills of stealing from others becomes consumed by it, and ultimately meeting his end because the world took something back from him lol "ah but its just one shark, how hard could it be?"
I love how the end cutscene shoes dmsll rafts comming out while i have a base that can suport 2 dozen personal and is half the size of the vasanagsn

As a Swedish person I felt somewhat guilty playing this game... ;) My danish best friend, whom I played it with, was delighted, though... ;)
A note: Vasagatan, which is pronounced vAA-sa-gaa-tan with the Swedish long "A" sound, like the how the British pronounce "vase". It literally means Vasa street, and is a street name that occurs in around 13 Swedish and Finish cities, the most famous in Stockholm, Sweden's capital, and is one of the streets in Swedish Monopoly.
Vasa (Gustav Vasa, 1496-1560) was a king who is often refereed to as "the father of the country" as he did a lot to unify Sweden against the danes. He also had a big impact on the Swedish language as he introduced protestantism and the bible in Swedish. What's relevant to this game, however, is that there was a famous ship named after him in 1627, a massive, amazing ship that was going to be the pride of the Swedish navy... buuuut... it sank after just sailing about a kilometer... oops. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasa_(ship), there's a pronunciation too)... So, though it's VERY weird that the ship had the name of a STREET (I wonder if the devs got things a bit mixed up?) I knew instantly when I saw "Vasagatan" that it HAD to be a shipwreck... Vasa is a bit like Sweden's Titanic...
Anyway, not sure how interesting this is, but I'd thought I'd share as I've already bored my gaming partner with it... ;)
It's the name of the street that the game creators have their business office on. It was intended as an Easter egg. But as a history nut, thanks for the additional info!

I thought the creators were dutch, though, for some reason, so I thought there had been a translating error ;) Thanks for the info, and at least the history is WHY there even are so many streets called Vasagatan in Sweden...
Hopefully they add more story. The holes they left behind like; what happened to Olof, will Bruno find Astrid and how Utopia will progress they is much more they can do. For example when you leave Utopia and come back it like updates. I’m not really sure but there is a lot of options.

At first I thought Temperance would be a huge ice maker to turn enough of the ocean back to ice and restore the world to what it used to be.

I already have a dozen comments on this video, but if you look at the Raft wiki, it says that Johnny from balboa island may be Bruno from the notes. 🤔There’s something that disproves that assuption. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel like maybe if you actually play through the whole game before writing something into the wiki, you might underastand why.
Hey, I just wanted to tell you that you are a huge reason I was inspired to start my own youtube channel. I started off recording some of my raft builds because I have been making them but never showed them to anyone before. If you want you can take a look at my channel for some other building inspiration. I'm still learning how to edit, and also my computer just busted so I'm working with a potato pc but I am still forging ahead.

like a reason to use the titanium tools, find Astrid perhaps (or closure for Bruno), a reason to use the titanium upgrades, perhaps rescue people floating on those makeshift rafts and bring them to Utopia or something... dlc would be nice... There was person saying that she was a trader after you free everyone. That should imply that, and it would make a ton of sense, there are other islands with people living on them.
If you want to know how to pronounce "Vasagatan", me knowing that you actually dug up the history of the name and all... If you divide the name into Vasa and gatan, and try to pronounce them separately, I think you´re really close. "Vasa" is an old swedish name, actually a King´s name, and "gatan" just means street. I don´t mind either way, I just thought you´d like to know, since you really pay attention to a lot of detail in this game :)
That's a really cool video, but i thinks it was better is yo talked about ideas, all of this is in the game, i don't think you u derstand me, like, why is there a brutal shark in varuna point? Or why is selene so important? Or what exactly are the reactors. Like a deeper hypotesis.
Really? The rafters actually sabotaged the Butler bots by strapping tasers to them? I was wondering how they managed to get tasers. That explains why they are so eager to go up to a person for help but unintentionally shock them while doing so
Up until the full release, I just thought that the people at Tangaroa tried to keep intruders out by strapping tasers to their robots.

I tried searching on the wiki for raft but I still can't find who is Ruben. Am I missing something
Ruben is Hanne's boyfriend. They got separated during the climate crisis. She ended up becoming Olaf's engineer on the Vasagatan while he ends up an engineer on Tangaroa. You can't meet him at Utopia because as soon as you let everyone out he goes to check the wind turbines, but he made it there safe and sound.

It actually used to before the Chapter 3 Update! But now it explicitly says in Dr. Scholl's note that it happens around the same time

Yes, the game isn't divided into hard chapters when you play it, it was more development chapters than actual story chapters
