@@rustictexas2576 it really is. Like Katie's mom, my parents (I've had them since I got my cycles at 13) thought I was having a stroke. Now at 30 even though people know I have bad migraines, when I have those symptoms I have to get scans to make sure it's not a tumor.

I get similar symptoms with my migraines, usually paralysis on my left side all off my left side (face, arm, leg, meaning I can't walk), but occasionally only paralysis in my left arm and I have been diagnosed with a rare form of migraines called hemiplegic migraines, sounds just like what katie was dealing with, with mine, I go completely blind in my left eye and my hearing fully goes in my left ear even with my hearing aid in, during a hemiplegic migraine, and what katie was dealing with sounds similar to what I go through each week unfortunately as nothing has helped, my paralysis can last and does on a regular basis last for 3 days, I really hope this was just a one off with the numbness in her arms and eye sight issues, and this type of situation never happens again

Side note, I get migraines too. Luckily I’ve caught all but one of mine quick enough to only experience the headache after the spotty vision subsided after some Excedrine. The only time I wasn’t able to catch it quick enough happened just over a month ago while I was at work, and I had to leave early. That was a scary drive home! I’ve had Botox in the past without success. Now I take Maxalt & phenergan which helps.. but sometimes it just has to run it course. In the past they would prescribe a steroid with a pain pill which was a really effective treatment! Stay well Katie!

Before menopause, I got a massive migraine every single month with every single cycle. Facial numbness, loss of peripheral vision, visual strobing, hand numbness. The first time I got one I thought I was having a stroke. Mom took me to the ER and discovered it was indeed a migraine. After other major disorders were ruled out (tumor, stroke, aneursym, etc...) they determined mine were hormone related. Talked to my doctor and was put on hormone therapy (birth control). Still got a few here and there but not nearly as bad as before. I feel your pain, Katie! Feel better soon xoxo

I hope Katie doesn't get a migraine very often. I have had migraines my whole life, but I didn't start getting the visual & auditory aura until my 20's. That first time experiencing stroke-like symptoms is terrifying. Controlling diet is more important than people realize. You should have Katie keep a headache journal indicating what she ate/did leading up to the migraine. My worst triggers are processed foods, artificial sweeteners and fluorescent lights.
It is much easier to try and avoid triggers than go through years of trial and error treatment options. Especially once she is driving herself and is out on her own. I have been trapped so many inconvenient places unable to see/drive for 30 minutes or more. After a decade, I have a system of oral and injectable triptans that I keep in my purse at all times. It took about 30 different treatments to get here though, including Botox injections, seizure medications, blood pressure medications, acupuncture, physical therapy, dry needling, steroid injections, etc.

I get ocular migraines like that as well, and what causes them for me is bright light entering my eye unevenly. So if there's a sun glare from a window or water or a cloud cover with bright sun, I have to be very careful of my eyes. For some people, they can be caused by smells as well. Once you figure out your triggers, avoid them and it should decrease the frequency of the migraines.

Catherine Cullinan I know migraines are in the head because I have them in my head and also my stomach and it can happen. Look them up if you do not believe me. Abdominal migraines exist. Besides abdominal migraines, I get migraines in my head as well so you know now that I get migraine headaches and abdominal migraines combined together. My doctor said I get both migraines together and it is possible to get them together.

Her migraines get too bad you may need to take her into either the ER or her family DR so they can decide on what she could take to prevent them from occurring frequently.

Katie when you have a sore head or migraine pinch your thumb and your index finger in between your thumb and index finger on the opposite side. You should feel a “ligament” thing keep pushing down on that and it will eventually go away. That’s what I do when I get migraines

I feel her pain! I am fortunate enough to not have the aura part. If I don't sleep enough, if my diet gets irregular I get them I have to monitor the foods I eat. What type of salad was she making? It looks really good lol. Feel better, Katie ❤

3 Advil is extremely hard on the liver. If she needs that many in one go - maybe ask your doctor for a prescription that she could take instead. also as a sufferer of migraines for over 30 years - at the first sign - drink a can of coke. (I know several adults who found the same thing & for whatever weird reason Pepsi doesn't work). The caffeine opens the blood vessels and may ease the duration or severity of the migraine.

That’s what I also get when I have migraines: can’t see, numb hands and legs, have to throw up and more so it was scary the first time but after a while you get used to it...

I've gotten migraines with aura since I was 13. I got them a lot for about 3 years, but for the past several years, I only get one a year, that's due in part because a medicine I take for a heart condition helps with preventing migraines as well. I typically get the pounding headache, arm/hand tingling, slurred speech/trouble talking and getting thoughts and words out, vomiting, and having sensitivity to light and sound. It always starts with visual problems with seeing zig zag lines that start out small and then gradually increase making me not see out of one side of my body for about 20 minutes. I have to take Ibuprofen right away as soon as it starts and that helps with the rest of the symptoms.
