- In this episode I travel south along the Eastern Highlands and visit the iconic Birchenough bridge and discover some amazing places along the way.
I then head to Gonarezhou and meet the most Southerly family in Zimbabwe. The mother was not happy with someone
Well done Bruce. Indeed this is a fulfilling lifestyle. I like the quality of your videos and narrations. Indeed Southern Africa is a paradise. Much love from Harare, Zimbabwe
Thank you so much and thank you for watching and commenting
Zimbabwe is such a beautiful country! I hope one day we can have leaders that can realize this🇿🇼

Thank you for watching and commenting
superb as ever Bruce, thanks for sharing your travels through the land of my childhood, I can't explain how magical it is to see many of the places that I remember. I stayed at the Chimanimani hotel for a week as a child with my parents. We explored the Bvumba (Vumba back then) mountains and Birchenough Bridge. I have a photo of me as a child in front of the bridge. I seem to recall we bought some carvings from a roadside kiosk near there. We also climbed Chimanimani. I returned to Chimanimani as an adult and did the climb again (it didn't seem as big as I had remembered it to be). There also used to be a campsite at Christmas Pass in Mutare that we used to stay overnight on the way to/from Beira or Gorongosa in Mozambique. The Christmas Pass campsite was in a pine forest which was so different to the flaura of most of Zimbabwe. My dad would not drive faster than 75kph as he said that it was safer if you had a blowout, so it used to take us a long time to get where we were going on big trips!
Such awesome memories John, thank you for sharing them. It's funny how that works. A month ago I managed to sweet talk some security to allow me into a complex where our childhood house still stands. They are refurbishing it but wow it seems so small and I have such clear memories of it.
Thank you for watching again and taking the time to comment.
Colonizer, you are the descendant of thieves and murderers. Oppressors of African people. Shame!
I really owe it to myself to go on a tour of Zimbabwe... Your vlogs have really inspired that in me thank you Bruce
That’s so awesome to hear. Thank you so much for letting me know and for watching
I so enjoyed this and your others! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. I grew up in Mutare in the 1965-76.
ah thank you. im so happy to hear that. I didnt realise Mutare was so popular and I should have filmed much more while there. I will have to go back.
Thank you for watching and commenting

Hello Bruce,
I remember when you used to tell us to forgive the video quality and your recording skills which confused me a little bit since your videos were well made... But now!! Oh man! You're making documentaries!!! Your humbleness elevated your videos to a whole new level!
You did a good job emphasizing the beauty of the country and its people.
Thank you and peace to you and all South Africans from a Moroccan fan!
Peace to you to.
Thank you so much. I am really trying to improve on the quality each time. I’m so happy to hear it’s being noticed but I still have a long way to go.
You need to come visit us one day. I too want to visit Morocco one day. Maybe we can enjoy a Fish Chermoula together one day.
Thank you so much for watching and for the compliment
@@OverlandingwithBruce Oh man! You're welcome anytime!!! It will be an honor, good man. And I am sure you'll love the food here.
Sad to see Zimbabwe so run down, certainly since I left in 1984. Beautiful bush areas/landscapes we all know and love about Zim. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us all.
It's a pleasure and thank you for watching. The bush and variety of bush/landscapes in Zimbabwe is truly spectacular and I am very lucky that I am able to experience it.
Thank you for watching and commenting
Best content on Zim and well researched too Bruce. You bring back memories. Thank you.

It’s a beautiful area for sure
Applaud you for not being blasphemous. great videos.
Thank you. I will definitely not ever be blasphemous. I have many other faults but don’t believe in that.

It’s a pleasure. I think next time I’m in Zim we need to arrange a New Defender owners meet-up somewhere. 😂 Hope you have many happy miles of smiles. Thank you for watching
Thanks for this Bruce 🙏🏽you got me so emotional in tears actually as I remember the wonderful times I shared with my family especially my late father who loved visiting Leopard Rock Hotel….such wonderful childhood memories, that I’ll forever cherish…
its a pleasure. Im sorry that you are in tears but I am sure they are happy tears. We were very privileged to grow up there. Thank you for your support

A great overview of the eastern Zimbabwe, an area not really totally exploited by SA tourists. Bruce you need to spend more time in Gonarezhou - North and South. A wonderful wilderness. I will be back there at beginning August. By the way, loved your choice of music background.
Thanks so much Mike. Yes time is always a problem.
Thank you for watching and commenting and enjoy your trip
Diana visited Leopard Rock in the 90’s….in one of the hallways there’s a pic of her wearing a LR t-shirt.👑 Great vid mate.
Thanks so much. We were meant to stay there in May but didn’t make it as we were delayed in Harare. Hopefully next time.
Thank you for the compliment and for watching.
Amazing content. As expected you delivered and kept us intrigued by your good story telling techniques. The south of Zimbabwe has a lot scenery to explored and enjoyed. thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the kind words and thank you so much for watching
Great staff, Bruce. We have watched your videos with my whole family since yesterday. You have surely entertained us and your coverage is on another level. Indeed, Zim is beautiful. May God bless our country and once again thanks for your inspirational, informative and balanced coverage. Good vibes all the way 🇿🇼
Ah that’s awesome to hear. Thank you so much for watching. Very happy you enjoyed them.
This is a very good video thank you.❤
great videos of Zimbabwe.
Thank you very much
Thanks Bruce, nicely arranged & casual without becoming monotonous (also like the snippets of info). When I was a kid I remember my dad & cousin climbing over the top of Birchenough Bridge. Recently we were in Gonarezhou and stayed at Rossi Pools. What spectacular location, in fact the whole of the Mwendzi river camps & sites are spectacular. I was interested that you used the Malapati BB road. I was contemplating using it back to Bulawayo, but decided to go back via Kyle Dam/ Great Zim - Matopos & home (Botswana). I like your alternative routes, many are roads/tracks I haven't been on for many years (decades).
Thank you very much. Your dad and cousin are very brave. I could never do that 😂
I always try do the roads less travelled and have been rewarded many times. That back road would be slow back to Bullies or Bots and after lots of rain impassable in places but it’s a really nice route. You could leave Gonarezhou, then stay at the Drummond farm about 80kms from Beitbridge then up to Bulawayo or just drive straight through. I made it to Johannesburg from there but it was a long day.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. All the best
Awesome episode Bruce! Zimbabwe is on my list of places to go next year. Can’t wait!

Hi Bruce, you’re a true ambassador for Zimbabwe. God bless you!!!
Thank you so much. That’s really nice of you to say that.
Thank you for watching
Great to watch Zimbabwe being still such a magic place, my experience here in Kenya is, when animals in a remote area are shy and running away, it mostly points to them being hunted by poachers. Animas that haven't seen cars in a long time usually stand an watch in awe, as happened to me during Covid Lockdown time in Tsavo when I was the only person in the park after month and month. Great Video, keep up the good work...
I agree. I also did hear lion in the area so they were possibly on edge but I do think you are right.
Thank you and thank you for watching and commenting
Zimbabwe is beautiful
I agree. Thank you for watching
Thanks very much for filming this beautiful part of Zimbabwe. In the nineties I traveled as a tour guide through this great country. Your vlog brought back lots of beautiful memories on that period.

Amazing footage. My home 🏡 is in Chimanimani village, overlooking the beautiful Chimanimani mountains. Bridal Veil falls was a favorite family picnic spot. The highlight was a deep in the pool. Thank you for visiting Chimanimani.

"Come to Umtali and get bombed"...lekker one again Bruce. I think I was about 12 yrs old and I went on a Geoff Cox tour of Eastern Highlands, Birchenough Bridge, Hot Springs and Zimbabwe Ruins. At the Bridge, we abseiled from the road level down to the riverbed, a memory I will never forget. Then in Std 5, the class went to the Lowveld and visited Gonarezhou. We went into the riverbed to checkout the Chilojo Cliffs. Your overland tours are bringing back so many awesome memories of old Rhodesia. Cheers!!
Those are awesome memories. Thank you so much for sharing them Bruce. Im glad my videos are helping with those.
