    The upgraded pump is doing EXACTLY what it's supposed to do. It transfers heat from the engine faster.

    • @BrainOnFire
      @BrainOnFire Před měsícem

      Tha makes sense, if the engine is generating the same heat but the radiator is hotter than before it is because the new water pump is more efective extracting the hot from the engine and moving it to the radiator.

    Thanks for the detailed info. Disappointed about the results as well. What about temperature of the coolant, it gets hot when riding low speed with low rpm so what is my experience: I use two sets of wheels, one is original one and the other is SMCR size. And I use the original set(enduro one) of sprockets with both sets of wheels. So because of the difference of rear wheel sizes I ride at little higher rpm with supermoto set. So the bike feels better at 1 and 2 gears at low speed and I notice that it gets hotter a little bit later in this mode. Anyway this is only my feelings)
    P s. Are you using swing arm protectors from exs models? Thanks!

    • @Speelbird
      @Speelbird  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately I cant change my Rear Rim Size going Offroad :D But thanks for this Information anyway, every Idea is welcome. I Just returned from some Enduro Event, we also had some stock 701 and 32 Degree Celsius Ambient Temperature. On the Stock 701 sometimes the Coolant Light turned on, but not on mine, so I guess the bigger Waterpump and Radiator Fan are doing some better Job at least.

      Yea. Off course it works! And I wasn’t telling about rim change, just changing sprockets will give some improvements in speed/rpm ratio. Also I think the factory ratio isn’t the best) i would change it in any direction so will not being on very high rpm on 1st and too slow on 2nd)) cheers!!

    Have you tried Motul Mocool coolant additive..? They claim that it lowers the coolant temperature by 15 degrees celsius. Would be nice to see you test it with the camera too :-)

    • @Speelbird
      @Speelbird  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No, I have not tried it yet because of following Reason: The Product claims to increase the Heat Exchange, this works in both Ways, better Heat Transfer from the Motor to Coolant and better Heat Transfer from Coolant to Radiator/Ambient. In my Opinion its good if you ride fast and as long as you have some proper Airflow to your Radiator. But if you ride slow Pace through the Woods and you wont have some proper Airflow it means that the Water will still take more Heat from the Motor but cant transfer it to the Ambient, the Result could be an even higher Coolant Temperature as before…

    Did you do any fuel mods? Like a PC5? the bike needs it because the lean running makes it run hot. With just a fuel dongle it will run hot. My 701 rally with proper fueling has no issues with overheating. Also I think adding a berotec temp guage would work well to monitor engine temp.

    • @Speelbird
      @Speelbird  Před rokem

      Nope, I did not do any Fuel Mod. Its an Euro 4 Bike, the AFR still looks good on these Bikes, Euro 5 looks much worse. I got a just a touch confused. You used the two supplied .5mm gaskets or two 1mm gaskets? The thicker versions would leave a gap at the end of the impeller and reduce efficiency.

    • @Speelbird
      @Speelbird  Před rokem +1

      The provided Gaskets looked pretty cheap and I did not like to risk some Leakage so I used the original Waterpump Casing Gaskets from KTM. Yes they are thicker as the ones that came with the Pump, they are 1mm each instead of 0,5mm. So the Gap between the Casing and Pump is bigger. If it has some bigger Effect on the Pump Efficiency I cant tell, but a bigger Gap wont make it better at all thats right.

    Hi,
    I changed the fan switch. I'm using an FAE 36500 switch who gets on at 98°C (instead of 102°C for the original one).
    The engine doesn't get so hot, and the oil is cooler too.
    Before, the engine oil was 130°C by hot days. Now, temp never exceeds 107°C
    The limit is the fan who gets very often on.
    So I bought an LR fan and housing. I hope it will solve that issue.

    I think you misinterpreted your test results. The new water pump worked as designed, it transferred more coolant through the radiator, I.e. out of the engine. In normal conditions (like you thought too) the air flow through radiator will be able to cool the coolant more because there is a larger volume of coolant moving through the system.
    Another, related mod I’ve done on my 690 is upgrade to the 701 LR fan. This is a plug & play upgrade and also helps with cooling in both stationary and slow speed situations.

    • @Speelbird
      @Speelbird  Před rokem +2

      Thank you for that Information. I agree, the Pump will increase the Flow and will increase the Heat that can be „transported“ by the Coolant from the Engine to the Radiator. Still, if the Heat cant be transfered from the Radiator to the Air (due to slow Riding) the Pump has no Effect. Thats the Reason why the Radiator is the limiting Part of the Cooling Circuit. So the Radiator must be bigger or must be cooled more actively as you say with a bigger Fan (LR 701 Fan). Do you use Instagram? If yes let me know because I would like to get some more Information about how you installed the bigger Fan. Thank you. :)

    Typical German over complicating ( but very interesting )......
    You can increase cooling by :
    1.) Increase air flow ( by driving faster or adding second fan ).
    2.) Changing thermal sensor for fan to start earlier.....
    3.) Bigger radiator ( what most racing guys do ) ....
    This bike has quite high compression ratio to squeeze a lot of horse power - that unfortunately goes against longevity and reliability and produces excessive amounts of heat ( that is normal ).
    Fueling ( running too lean ) can also cause excessive heat - put it on dyno.
