    Been following the channel for a while -- you helped me to start running and I just came back from my longest run so far (even if it was only 7km) -- even if i don't have the beautiful terrain that you do, it's still been so much more fun to exercise when i try to approach it with the same positivity you seem to. Good luck with the training!

    Damn that looks so beautiful. I'm so jealous of the snow you have. Of course running in the snow, even if it's not knee deep, is exhausting, but I love it so much. I've previously lived in southern Germany close to the Alps and we got quite a bit of snow there as well, but now I live somewhere else and there is always just rain. ☹️
    I'm running my first ever ultra (53km) this spring and am also hoping to ramp up my training soon after a period of illness. Good luck for your ultra!

    Thanks! It looks stunningly beautiful. I wonder how cold it was. One novice runner question. Does it really count as a long run? Let me explain. When conditions are bad here in Montreal, Canada, I often feel like I am wasting my time, because my cadence and pace are nowhere near to what they will be in a 5-10k or half-marathon road race. If it counts, what makes it count? In other words, how can I be sure that I am not wasting my time when I am shuffling on icy surfaces in Montreal or struggling through knee-deep snow?

    • @goranwinblad
      @goranwinblad  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah it was a beautiful place to run at! Well I look more at the time since the distance will be very dependent on how much climbing you do the surface etc. and even though you don't take as many steps running in deep snow your heart beats just as much as it would do for me on a flat 2h long run on a road. But if you are training for a road marathon this will of course not prepare you in the same way as running on a road for 2 hours so I guess it depends on what you are training for.

  • @wiesorix
    @wiesorix Před 5 měsíci

    Wow, that place looks great to run in! I'm quite jealous, living in gray and rainy Belgium...
    The only thing I'm wondering is how efficient this kind of training is? Obviously, it should have more effect than an 11km on easy terrain. But if you could do 20km in the same time with a similar effort, wouldn't the 20km be a better way of training if you want
    to do a 50k race?
    Just wondering, as I started doing a lot of slow training on difficult terrain too.

    • @goranwinblad
      @goranwinblad  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah it was a nice place to run at! It depends on what you are training for since I'm training for a snowy and hilly ultra this is relevant and good training but it's pretty different from running on fast roads so not that relevant for that. But you still get a really good training for your heart and your whole aerobic system running in tough terrain which will help you in all endurance events.
