I think people are really underestimating him because of the constant want for Chelsea to fail. He seems to be intelligent and ready for the step up. Also just cause Chelsea have sacked Tuchel doesn't mean they'll do the same with Potter. The owners might have a long term project with him in mind, and people need to realize it's not the same club anymore. I feel people are now criticising this move because they want Chelsea to fail even tho people were asking big clubs to sign Graham Potter for the past year

Did you realise what you wrote? Chelsea are not the same as before? And yet they sack Tuchel who won the champions league with the team less than 2 years ago, won the UEFA super cup and the club world cup. And has made almost every domestic cup final since his appointment. Because after only 6 games into the new season, he is 5 points behind the league leaders. And lost 1 champions league game. It's not an agenda for the failure of the club otherwise people would actually be rejoicing that Potter has been appointed. Look at the money the club spent just this summer window and you won't even give him time to get the players well into the team. Not to mention the fact that Chelsea just recently signed Aubameyang purely because of Tuchel and he doesn't even get to use him. And you are saying that the Club has changed? Well, based on current events, the only change in the club has been the squad and management. The way the club was run has definitely not changed

@@J_Tevo I agree to a degree but it's still a world class team and from reports with a owner who has wanted him from the start, and has shown a willingness to back the manager. And while it's a different sport he has kept a coach for ten years at his baseball team. So I don't see why he can't succeed at Chelsea, if he really does try to l.

I hope you're right, but tbh it doesn't feel this way from the outside... It feels reactionary and hasty... And I fear the worst for Potter... Because Bohley and Co don't seem dumb... so they're probably looking for Potter as sort of an interim manager and will be talking to someone else for the long term job at the end of the season... Which if true will be a horrible thing to do to Potter who had a decent stable job at Brighton...
It feels like such an American Businessman move to hire someone to steady the ship while at the same time destabilize a competitor.

I disagree with notion around Boehly. He also owns the LA Dodgers baseball team which are arguably the best run franchise in MLB. Need to look at this from the owner's perspective. He had a manager that was unhappy with the fact that the people he had got along with in the front office had been let go. The relationship between the owner and manager was also not going well. So, Todd Boehly, after his investment group had put over 2 billion into the purchase of Chelsea wanted a fresh start, to take the club in a different direction than the previous owner had (ie, turn it into an actual successful business) and to put "their" people in. The decision to fire Tuchel was made prior to the West Ham game. My only guess in why they waited this long to fire him was because they did really want to make it work and when they realized it wasn't going to they decided it was better now rather than later.

In turn im sure they will give him a fair amount of time to assert his influence.

This is the first time in 20 years that no one knows how the ownership and management are going to deal with the ups and downs of team performance. I do believe that Boehly was hoping to keep Tuchel for a longer but the reported toxic atmosphere behind the scenes may have forced his hands. They seemed very set on Potter and honestly I don't think there any better options out there right now for what they plan to do, especially not with bigger names tha nPotter. Anyone with a smaller name would get a worse treatment from the media for the same reasons that Potter would, 'it's too big a job for him'. Honestly, if Chelsea don't become the top dogs within the first 2 years, then I think Chelsea fans would be fine as long as there is progression and entertainment. The goal is to become the dominant force in 2024 and beyond, when Guardiola is on his way out of City and Klopp is on his way out of Liverpool, Chelsea need to create the dynasty to take up the mantle and sacking managers every year won't allow that so a long term option with Potter is positive, in my opinion

I just got off the phone with my Uncle who has a season ticket and travels away for Chelsea. We were discussing Tuchel and we both agreed it’s been poor for too long now with Tuchel basically since November. The peak came and went similar to what happened at PSG and Dortmund. The attacking became so stale and lost with an over reliance on our wingbacks doing the work. The defending got worse which made the games so boring to go and watch. We were scrapping wins by the skin of our teeth and losing our identity. Just from the entertainment value it went under Tuchel and all we want is better attacking football and not having teams not fear coming Stamford Bridge.
It’s why I think Potter is a great appointment, positive football, good work ethic and passion which Tuchel was lacking a lot of this year. Tuchel set the standards for himself and it was ultimately his downfall. Potter is a manager proving himself so if it’s not smooth sailing from the start he will be given time under the fan base to develop his systems and play properly. Tuchel was already a proven manager. It’s why the board wants Potter as it falls in line with their other franchises of developing a young up and coming manager to lead into a dynasty. Like my uncle just excited to move away from the tactics that became stale and poorly planned.

We were the pace setters for the league last season until we lost both James and Chilwell, sometime in November. He represented us well during the situation with Abramavich and throughout the change of ownership. For me tho, the performances weren't there. We haven't frequently looked like scoring a goal, nevermind winning a game, in what feels like a year.
With Potter, I am worried for him as well. He had to take the leap, to get himself into this level of manager, but I can see things going poorly for him. Lots of pressure from outside sources. The question is whether Boehly and Co. are going to keep acting similarly to the Abramavich Era. If Potter is going to get 2-3 years guaranteed, then I am extremely excited to see what kind of project he can build.

And I fear that it has basically boiled down to Todd Boehly asking someone "So, who's a good manager then?" And he's almost stumbled across Potter by chance without realising what he could actually bring to the club in terms of an entire restructuring and rebuilding.

Hi Jim, fair play on pumping out the content. As a Chelsea fan, I have to disagree. Based off reports coming out over the last 24 hours, Tuchel was not dismissed on the basis of results but rather due to friction between the ideologies of Tuchel and and ownership. The ownership wanted a highly communicative and joined up approach, across every club department not just between head coach and hierarchy. Tuchel wished to be left alone when it came to transfers yet also wanted input which confused the hierarchy.
I personally believe Potter is such a clever appointment. There's been a clear out across the board at Chelsea - head coach, board level, head scout, opening for director of football - and Potter is coming in at a time in where he'll likely have major input as to who takes up what role, something Tuchel wasn't interested in doing. Apparently at Brighton, Potter is very involved in many different aspects of the club in recruitment etc. Also, apparently Boehly and co were alarmed at the poor level of communication within the club and the lack of a cohesive approach to squad management, utilisation of the academy and recruitment. While Boehly and the new ownership have obviously made teething errors (e.g. Aubameyang, potentially Koulibaly, not quite moving quickly enough on some other deals) I believe they are smart people who know how to run a business (which is kinda what football is now) and have direct experience in sports ownership, even if it's not in football.
Sacking Tuchel was a brutal move, but tbh I expected it, maybe not so soon, but at some point. There was obviously something wrong with players not knowing their roles on the pitch and others being shoehorned into positions they were clearly unhappy with and ill-suited to. I'm sad to see Tuchel go, but all his initial strengths of pragmatism, emotional intelligence and man management had deserted him in the final stretch. He was hard done by I feel in being asked to do what he did over the summer in having to give such heavy input into transfers which was something he had no interest in. However, this is a non-negotiable for new ownership and I believe Potter aligns with this nicely, on top of clearly being a clever man manager and tactician. According to Matt Law, Boehly had enquired about Potter on a number of occasions, and looked to learn about his style of dealing with players and overall vision in football.
I really don't believe this is a rash decision and is really quite a clever appointment. Sad to see Tuchel go but excited for the future and for new ownership to exploit the riches of the club such as the academy that the previous regime neglected.

Have seen reports come out since the shock news yesterday where Boehly had already scouted Potter and knew what he was all about. Usually when a team get a new owner, you often do see the change to a new manager, but Tuchel had enough credit in the bank with Chelsea to be able to hold on for an extra few months.
However the last 6 months of poor form, Tuchel being obviously unhappy with changes being made (such as Cech leaving who he got along with well), and players being unhappy with Tuchel, meant that there was now enough reason for Boehly to cut Tuchel out and start implementing a coach he ACTUALLY wanted to help create the team and club culture he wants to shape Chelsea into.
Looking back I wish it had happened sooner so that Potter would have more say in players over summer and get a preseason of training, but if Tuchel was let go over the summer without even getting a chance it would have seemed even more wild from a fans perspective.

This is your chance to actually see it. with a 5 year contract, it actually shows that Potter is in for the long haul. There will be bumps along the road but that will be the opportunity cost of having sustained progression. Also, this is a guy which has been endorsed by Pep & Klopp as the best English manager.

Potter will do brilliant at basically any top club in England except Chelsea. They just won’t give him the time he needs to succeed. This was a dumb career move but a good financial one I guess. As a Brighton fan i was not particularly worried about Potter leaving as I have full faith in the board and their strategy to find his replacement. Today we found out he's taken not only himself and his immediate staff that he brought with him, but Ben Roberts our GK coach and Bruno one of the first team coaches and club legend (both of whom were at the club prior) with him. This stings far worse and now we're left with a massive void where the coaching staff used to be. I'm not worried about our future but a little hurt over this affair as the timing and scale of it in particular, really stinks.
I think at Chelsea, he could be a revelation if given time. That is the caveat, will he be given the time he needs? I have bigger doubts over that. Good luck to them all I suppose, just not against us. Oh, and please don't clear us out of playing talent too, you've taken enough already.

But you have to also consider the fact that Rangnick was only there on a temporary basis until they could find a permanent manager. So another factor as to why the appointment didn’t work could’ve been the fact the players knew he was only there until the rest of the season. Ole’s departure and the constantly horrendous results meant that they already knew that their season was technically over anyway and didn’t see a good reason to perform. Potter on the other hand, is clearly the permanent manager for Chelsea and not some interim until the end of the season. He is part of a long term plan at the club and Tuchel’s sacking is done way early into the season so there is still a much greater chance of them performing better than Rangnick’s United did. The season isn’t exactly over for Chelsea.

Also the fact that there hasn’t been an English manager at a top club for a while will also bring a great load of pressure which will worsen if he doesn’t perform. You have said it yourself several times about the players Chelsea have had through the door, and the inability of coaches to "get a tune out of them". Potter will succeed at that where they all have failed. His career to date proves that if nothing else. Tuchel was a strategist who did not want to get his hands dirty coaching players. His own comments prove it. Potter is much more down to earth and will love the challenge of doing both. Developing his players individually & collectively & bonding them into a unit. Again, his track record proves it.

In any avenue of life, youd take this chance and see what you can make of it.
Now he's got it, he'll be able to get a good job at the end of it regardless of how well he does

If he can get Chelsea playing the way Brighton play with their quality it’s a no brainer.
This is a bold move and and good move. If it doesn’t work and the job does become to big for Potter oh well. It’s worth the risk.

Will we see an episode of the Ripple effect? Would love to see your thoughts on what Brighton should do next in terms of finding their manager.

I hope this means Brighton doesn't give up and go gung-ho for poch, hes a free agent and would be a great building manager for a few years

He doesn't feel right because unlike previous managers/head coaches signed by the previous owner, he does not come in with a proven track record of winning major trophies (not domestic trophies). Chelsea fans are used to seeing their new managers/head coaches come in, hit the ground running and start winning trophies.

After this week's champions league fixtures finished all I could hear was your warning regarding sleep walking to a super league.
Not 1, not 2 but 6 different teams including Europa league regulars & both Europa league finalists were pumped by 3 goals or more (Copenhagen, Celticc, Frankfurt, rangers, plzen & sevilla) & looked wholly outclassed by their competitors. It feels like soon these 3-0 will turn to 6-0 & then calls for a new competition will be made.
Frankfurt (20M), Celtic (25M), rangers (10M), Copenhagen (13M) & Victoria plzen (2M) combined have a net spent lower this season than ajax alone (94M), who admittedly are incredibly well run club but just goes to show you the gap between these clubs without including the hard hitters like chelsea or barcelona.
I feel as if some clubs in several groups won't win a game this year.

Too many writing him off, will most likely be a roaring success if he's given time

I think Todd will give Potter more time considering he's a guy that he chose. It'll be a bad look if it doesn't work out
