  • The Little Thomas Mountain Road is a scenic route located in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California. It overlaps with the Rouse Ridge Trail. Earlier this fall I found this off-road trail more by accident - coming from Idylwild on the California 74.
The Little Thomas Mountain Roads winds its way through a lush forest and offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys - including Lake Hemet. Lake Hemet offers a lot of camping and fishing, but this time around I was looking for an off-road adventure and found it on the Little Thomas Mountain road. The road is popular for hiking, biking, camping, and off-roading.
The Little Thomas Mountain Road, aka Rouse Ridge trail, turns onto the Thomas Mountain Road and then leads back to the 74. The trail is about 12 Miles long and is rated as easy with a 3 out of 10.
I did not even air down and with slow speeds, it was not needed at all. With my Supertramp truck camper on the truck, I was concerned about height clearance but was positively surprised by how open the trail was. I had not spent any time researching this trail at all and was not sure about where it would lead. It is definitely a destination I will come back to.
