Another nice video Tony ... have never owned or used any of these short zooms myself so I found this interesting.

Thanks for the positive feedback Michael Rawle. They are not too bad for their time.

just received my 28-48 f4. So sharp on digital (Sony A7 -> full frame) even wide open ! I'm astonished it performs so good. Going to test it tomorrow in the "real world"..... Can't wait :D

Cheers Ted, I appreciate the feedback. There will be five (maybe six) more of these and one more review before the project ends.

Another fantastic video. I'm very grateful that you have shared what you know and learned. In a perfect world, you would do an accessories video. Thanks again for my education.

Thanks John Vandenberg. I'm so pleased that people are enjoying the outputs of this project.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to let you down on the accessories; for no other reason than I don't know that much about them.
The OM system was huge and complex, and I've not really used much from the Motor Drive, Photo Micro, Flash Photo, or Photo Technical groups. I had a Winder 2 and a bit of flash gear, but that was about it.
As a consolation, I will be doing a video (or maybe two) on the macro stuff.

Awesome video, likely going to pick up a 35-105 if I can, seems like exactly the kind of versatility I need

Thanks Ben. Don't just take my word for it. Paul Amyes has an excellent review on this handy lens:

Thanks for the video. I have the 35-70 f3.6 and f4, as you said the f3.6 is a better lens but still quite disappointing compared to the primes. I had not heard of the 35-105, it looks like I can get one for around $50 US on ebay so I may have to give one a try. Cheers!

I like the 35-105mm a lot. Paul Amyes has put together a great review (he is a long time fan of this lens):

I personally feel that US $50 for this lens is a bargain.

Just picked up an Olympus OM10 camera with the Zuiko 35-70 mm f/4 lens attached for $35.10 U.S.: found it in an antique shop. The lens is in pristine condition glass is perfect no scratches, dust, etc.; focusing ring, zoom ring, and aperture ring works perfectly. Camera works OK as far as I can tell now will have to run a roll of film through it to check. The lens alone is worth more than what I paid for the camera + lens. Always been a Nikon fan but just couldn't pass on the deal.

Once you confirm your camera works after running a roll of film thorugh it, I would humbly recommend that you take a look at ebay or KEH for the olympus 50mm 1.8 or the 35mm f2.8 (or f2), as some of those lenses can still be pretty cheap, and make your camera much lighter and funner to use! The 50 f1.8 can be had for $15 sometimes! But I personally think 35mm is a more versatile focal length if you only have 1 lens.

@@manwhalejoe6962 Ran a 36 exposure roll of film through it most every shot was excellent in spite of the shutter speed diodes along the left side of the viewfinder don't always work..shutter appears to be working correctly in spite of the diodes malfunction. Gave the camera to my daughter because I just picked up a Nikon Ftn Photomic; I have a collection of Nikon lenses to use with it and just always wanted a Nikon F. Thanks for the tip on finding Olympus lenses I'll pass that on to her if she keeps the camera.

Awesome video again! Like you said, the primes are so much better. I have a zoom M42 lens that I have never used. It just doesn't attract me. Maybe I should give it a go just to see. You never know :)

    • @oly35mm
      @oly35mm  Před 8 lety

Old Cameras: I do prefer the primes, but there are a few zooms that are worth keeping for film. The 35-105mm is one, but the 27-48mm is really handy too. The only reason I am not keeping it (and I nearly did) is because I have my eye on the 28mm f2.0 and one I get one I'll never use the zoom. I do find them quite handy on lazy (or rainy) days.

Sorry: 28-48mm (fat fingers and a phone keyboard).

Does the front element (glass and filter thread) rotate on the 35-70 f/3.6?
It's really hard to find information on this and it is also hard to tell from this video. It looks as if the barrel is extending and rotating, when you turn focus, but it seems that it is only the barrel itself which extends over the filter thread and front lens?
Does this seem correct? I would highly appreciate an answer!

If you are still looking for a answer, no it doesn't. It only does that on the one touch zooms

I enjoy the 35-105mm for my architectural projects. Bought it for a bargain (40€)
