    I love a zoom that extends when going wide. They are great for street photography, you can be standing next to people, zoom out to 35mm, and it looks to them like you're zooming in to something far away 🙂 I used this trick a lot with the Pentax DA16-45 and it's the reason I didn't like the 17-70 I replaced it with so much.

    For m4/3 sensors, the exceptional definition @70mm = 73 pairs/mm means a 1971 pixels vertical definition (13.5 x 73 x 2=1971 pixels).
    So you get more than a rich HD (1080 pixels). You can try 4K if you need to. Bokeh is good, neutral, not disturbing, but does not have the fascinating character of some monster zooms.
    Bokeh must be more impressive on Full Frame for sure.

    1:06 Great to see there have been masters of photography (Andre Kertesz, the man who believed behind the camera there should be someone who wants to express himself, with some feeling) actually opt to use zoom and not prime!
    But then at that price tag, one had to sell a car to get it!
    I'm just wondering how inferior were the F4 or the variable F3.5-4.5 versions of this OM lens?! or rather, how would they be compared to this gem.
    Thanks a lot for sharing such great content.

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  Před 2 lety +1

      It is definitely refreshing to see Kertesz using a zoom especially this late in his career!! I personally really enjoy using vintage zooms, because a lot of them are actually great! And as I mentioned in the video a lot of the pro zooms from back in the day were super expensive, oftentimes more expensive than prime lenses. It’s amazing that now we can try these excellent lenses for just a fraction of their original price! Nowadays zooms are considered inferior and many people don’t ever bother trying them, but I think that many of them are very capable lenses with great optics and unique qualities.
      Not sure how this Zuiko compares to the other two 35-70mm versions of this lens. Haven’t tried them yet.

      Wow, that's a great price for this awesome zoom! Regarding IBIS - yes, I would recommend setting up the IBIS every time you change focal lengths. Sometimes you can get away with it if there isn't that big of a difference in focal lengths, but for the most part it's best to try to keep up with it especially if you are shooting hand held at slow shutter speeds.
