What a sleeper of a lens this appears to be! If you told me the sample images were from the OM 90 or 100 f2, I would have believed you---not many lenses would pass that perceptual threshold. I have the 80 f4, which is an absolute peach at 1:1, and knew of the 135, but I had no idea it had this kind of performance outside of macro ranges. Given the prices, I have to doubt that others do either.

I just bought this lens at the bargin price of $49 AUD because it had fungus. Its all cleaned up and ready to go when my adaptor arrives. I do have a question regarding ibis. I'm a bit confused how to set this on my oly em10 mk2 because its not a fixed focal length. How do overcome this? Do you need to set the ibis each time you change the focal length? Great vid btw 👌

Fungus grows because people never take the lens out to shoot in the daylight. Expose your lenses to daylight and fungi will not grow,

I've owned all three of the most common brands. I sold my Revuenon and Rikenon, but I kept the Sears as it was slightly better all around. Maybe because it was in near mint condition as well. SN# 270044. I also prize my Super Takumar 50 f1.4 SN# 1134444 (8 elements). I am a huge Sergio Leone fan, too.

one thing that doesn't get mentioned...the Zebra and im guessing earler Fleks, 18cm min focus drops to nearly f4 at closest focus. Its not the same as the MC 2.4s. I love them both, but the MC is superior optically.

what about lens coating? will alcohol damage it?

I've been very impressed by the Auto Sears/Sekor SX 55mm f1.8 lens that I recently won in an auction on eBay for $8.50 (and $8 shipping). The glass looked very rough in the poorly taken photos of it in the listing and looked even worse when I got it, but it cleaned up really well. Its only fault is that the focusing ring is a bit stiff but I can live with that. I'd really like to see how it compares with the 55 f1.4 of this review. It's very sharp with great color, to my taste, and can render strong 3D pop at the right aperture and in the right light. And there are rumors it too was made by Tomioka.

The Minolta MD 50mm f2 IS a remarkable lens, and like the vlogger I probably never would have gotten one if my copy hadn't been bundled as a giveaway with a Minolta Rokkor MDII 58mm f1.4 that I bought on eBay. Both were very clean and cost me surprisingly little. I actually think that the 50 f2 is the better lens of the two.

And should a lens coating be reapplied for it to have the same effect? I'm looking to add some vintage lenses to my collection and I would really like the original look to maintain. Thanks!

I got this lens for 49€ in perfect condition and the OM to EF-M adapter for Canon. You should check out the 135mm version! I have a Soligor 135mm f2/8 and its really nice! Cool video, bro

Picked up one in Canada when it was a Cold Snap for about $180 USD. I couldn't even test it as it was foggy from the cold but took a chance on it and made sure the blades worked. When I have used this lens over the past year, its a WOW for me. Best $180 I ever spent.

I have the MD iii or new MD version of this lens, think it's the same optically. Very sharp as I recall, yes a little barrel distortion but not much. Thanks for reminding me to use it again!

Clever adaptation and a great story for a still great lens. Hexanons were generally very good lenses.

I tried to follow your video and failed. I could not separate the aluminum board form the helicoid. It looks it was glued together. I totally destroyed the copper screw without separating them. What a pity.😃
