  • Here's a tour of the cabin. We converted this rundown static caravan into our dream cabin home in the UK. We not quite off grid yet but hoping to be in the near future. I take you on a tour of the cabin and show you the ins and outs of what we did. If you want to see the full cabin renovation just head over to my channel to see videos on how we did every stage of the renovation. Please bear in mind we had no experience before renovating this static caravan and we made A LOT of mistakes - it's all part of the learning process and we definitely won't make those again. It's all part of the fun! Thanks for watching and if you have any questions please comment below. A like and subscribe would be awesome! Cheers!

    Excellent. Have you uploaded any vids on the purchase of your land, build permissions (!! Yes, to build on OWN land!), and how you were able to construct almost from scratch, a comfy cabin home. Thanks.

    I find beds against the wall to be a problem. Someone has to climb over another in the night to get to the bathroom. I suppose that doesn't affect younger people, but it's a nuisance when you are older. We have hired holiday accommodation with that same problem.

      I do see what you mean - it's tricky especially in a small space and this is the only way we could think of maximising the space in the bedroom but like you said it's not ideal.

    Hi great video can you tell me which if any which polish or oil did you use after burning the wood affect ??.👍👍
    And I live in the country in Ireland middle off no where just a little bit off free advice your wood that’s at the back of the back of the cabin take it away from the wall as OSB or not your be very surprised how quickly that will weaken YOUR CLADDING the damp sitting there will be there now until early spring 👍👍

      Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed it. The oil we used was literally called 'rustic wood oil' - to be honest it was just cheap and cheerful and i found it on google. I used the same oil on the floor as well. Very very good point about the wood on the back wall - i'll get that moved and give it a chance to dry out, thanks for pointing that out!

    I love what you have done to make a regular static into a gorgeous living space. My only question as I assume it's in the country near a small copse but the look of the outside do you get a problem with spiders, insects or rodents?
    Bringing wood in and a house of wood do you see an increase of spiders? I have your book which has a ton of information and although I am some what " mature" in age I plan to at least move towards semi off grid. You are an inspiration.

    • @offgridpath
      @offgridpath  Před 8 měsíci

      That's a really lovely comment thank you. And thank you for getting the book! That's greatly appreciated!
      So in terms of insects... we do get a lot of woodlouse but that is solely down to me not cleaning them off the wood before bring the wood in the cabin - so it's easily avoided but i don't mind it.
      Rodents wise... we have only had one case of mice in the cabin - I bought a couple of humane mouse traps and caught two that night. I realised them in some woodland a few miles away and we haven't had a problem since.
      Spiders.... at certain times of year we get a little influx of spiders but to be honest the wood burner makes the cabin so dry that they can't really survive in there. So every now and then you may find one but it is dead because of it just got completely dried up.
      I hope that helps! thanks for the comment and thanks for your support!

      Thanks for the reply. I hate spiders. It's my one weakness and flying monsters such as moths lol. I suppose the dry heat will help to keep down the unwanted visitors.
      Thanks again.

    Hi my gas boiler has just died so have no hot water shower etc. managing with my little log burner. What's your undersink water heater like, I am currently heating water with kettles on the logburner, not sure wether it's worth getting an underwater sink heater or not. Miss my shower though 😬

    • @offgridpath
      @offgridpath  Před 8 měsíci

      That's a really good question and sorry to hear about the gas boiler. The underwater heater is amazing! It's only 6 litres but enough for our needs (washing up etc) but you can get bigger ones. We ripped the old boiler out straight away because we knew that we didn't need radiators, the shower was electric and heating was from the burner so the only mystery was hot water in the sink and this has work wonders so can't recommend it enough!

      A plumber fitted this and it plugs into the wall. I’m not sure what brand it is but it would be best to ask a plumber because they’d recommend the best one. I wouldn’t want to give you bad advice!
