    *Note to viewers:* First 17.5 minutes of video describes all the different ingredients involved -- waxes, solvents, oils, other additives, etc. (Which, by the way, absolutely *IS* useful and interesting info, as well!)
    The first wax paste recipe ingredients are listed starting at around 17:35 -- fun times! :-)

    I recently brought a chunk of pure carnauba to mix with pure beeswax, pure gum turpentine, and pure tung oil (an old smithing recipe for a durable dark finish for bare cast iron/ wrought iron/ mild steel). I first melted the waxes on an electric double boiler (outside) and then added the oil and solvents.

    interesting video, my hesitation would be the solvents used and how exposure to them will effect the paint under the wax. I know they use solvents in mainstream wax production but exactly which ones and at what concentration is surely a bit of a trade secret. Im looking forward to part 2! when the Mrs is out of the house again of course!

    Lanoline/Vaseline + Beeswax + optional for better consistency - Oil(coconut or herbal tree) sometimes i add a little bit kerosene/naphtha that is my choice. heat it up(not open fire) mix it and it is ready. By the way can be also used as undercoat as it is great rust prevention.

    Hi mate, I'm across the pond in the US. Due to trademark issues R222 is branded P21S in the US. I also discovered the graininess in the wax which I thought would scratch my car's clear coat when applying. I returned it for another jar and it wasn't grainy at all, just smooth. The manufacturer said it may be due to the batch ( quality control ).
    Are you a professional or enthusiast detailer? It would be great if you could do a short or long video introduction of your detailing background.
    Your videos, music, presentations and great sense of humor are spot on. Just don't burn down your lovely home! Keep up the great work. Your best

    Jon!!! Today I melted some PREMIUM Carnuba that arrived hard as nails in an empty BH Double Speed tin. I have a question if you've time
    1.Ceramic 50ml scented WaxAddicts freebie ( soft and lovely apply )
    2. CarChem premium Carnuba, applied easily
    3. BH Double Speed, fabby wax been using everthing after a cut
    All these wax's apply so similar, wipe off, buffs, beads same/similar?????
    Which is better than any other. Even thinking buying the 156g TurtleWax ceramic now as £14 similar Double Speed. I'm happy on D.Speed. They all apply and wipe off bead similar. I am thinking making up one must be better than another?????

I think a lot of people who have got into wax making over the last 4 years have watched it which is something to be proud of.

      +Paul Dolden Details hey paul. ill settle for something thats half decent :) today I cooked up #002... And its cool but I think I need to take a big u turn about where im going with the wax.. Almost like parking #002 and going down a different route with another line. The waxes work but I think they are a bit wax heavy and possilbly solvent light, although they honk a bit... want to try really different blends now with much higher amounts of the carrier oils.. lanolin is the one I am keen to try. I think the coconut oil might be a bit too slick... its kind of good fun this.. but have no real clue what im doing :)

    Hi! Thank you very intesresting.
    Few questions:1
    1) Regarding the solvents, don't you think they can damage the clear coat? Because most of them (or several of them) can be agressive on paints
    2) I have Autoglym dried wax, I would like to re-use it. What solvent should I use? and in what proportion?
    Thank you!

      @ForensicDetailing  Před 7 lety

      we have about 17 videos of wax making my friend, there is no other source of information on the internet that will give you more info on getting started to make waxes, including full recipes.. The downside is you gonna watch it.. get you best tea mug out and put your feet up.. one thing though.. no amount of research beats actually doing this and learning... be prepared to spend 1000's of pounds if you want to do it properly. can get up and running for less than say 100-200... search ebay for odourless keresene if your after that.. its a good solvent.. but hold fire on watching it because theres some good alternatives ready to go..
      one big fast forward tip.. "car chem" get your waxes and solvent from them.. (or joe from autoglanz actually now he sells homebrew stuff individually as well)

  • @casperswatch
    @casperswatch Před 8 lety +6

    The grainy texture is to do with the carnauba content. Usually the higher the percentage of nuba then the grainier the texture. As for the solvents and flash points, if you are mixing them with the oils before heating, work out the lowest flash point and the percentage of that in the whole mix along with the highest flash point and you will probably find if something you are using flashes at 5 degrees and you are using 10 % and then you have something that flashes at 90 and using 40 % then it would be safe to go to 72 degrees without a problem. You get wax heaters on ebay for the likes of wax for woman for beauty therapy that work well and you can put the wax solvents and oils all in there. Very impressive first go mate and you will learn a lot in your next few batches. Looking forward to seeing the next installment.
