    For over 60 years Viking Pump has been manufacturing sliding vane pumps to complement their line of rotary positive displacement pumps. The vane pump moves fluid using the rotary motion of multiple sliding vanes. Vane pumps consist of a slotted rotor rotating in a cam shaped housing. This rotor is located close to the wall of the cam so that a crescent-shaped cavity is formed on the opposite wall. Each rotor slot contains a sliding vane. As the rotor rotates, centrifugal force, hydraulic pressure, and push rods work together to extend each vane to the casing wall. This creates an expanding cavity on the inlet side - creating a vacuum which pulls liquid into the pump. Liquid is trapped between the vanes and the casing wall. The rotor rotation moves the liquid cavities around to the outlet side of the pump. At the outlet side, the vanes are forced back into their slots, decreasing the cavity size and forcing the liquid through the outlet port. Because the vanes run in contact with the casing wall, vane pumps are commonly used in thin liquid applications.

    Could you comment on longevity of these vane pumps? It seems that there is a friction and metal-on-metal contact between the metal vanes and the metal housing that must eventually lead to wear of both.

    • @VikingPumpInc
      @VikingPumpInc  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The vanes are not metal. They are composite and yes, over time they do wear. Periodically these vanes should be inspected and replaced when worn.

    Is the vane pump use centrifugal force to work? Or it works on tge pressure difference. Could u explain thanku

    • @VikingPumpInc
      @VikingPumpInc  Před rokem

      Vane pumps do not create flow using centrifugal force - they are positive displacement pumps. With that said, centrifugal force - along with hydraulic pressure and push rods - work to operate the vanes themselves and extend them to the casing wall. That is what then creates an expanding cavity, or vacuum, that pulls liquid into the pump.

    What if Vane pump for sugar massecuite application? Is it possible?

    • @VikingPumpInc
      @VikingPumpInc  Před 2 lety +1

      It may be possible...but is definitely not ideal. Vane pumps would not be the best choice for sugar massecuite due to its viscosity and the presence of developing sugar crystals. Viking Pump has an internal gear pump designed specifically for handling sugar massecuite that would be a much better fit: czcams.com/video/j9lLNWeulHE/video.html

    Can vane pump be used for compressing air .

    • @VikingPumpInc
      @VikingPumpInc  Před 2 lety +2

      Vane pumps, like shown in the video, can not be used as compressors. While pumps and compressors are often similar in operating principle, pumps are designed for handling liquids and compressors for handling gases. However, compressor designs do exist that use the same principle. (Visit czcams.com/users/GASTManufacturing for more information)

    how is this mechanism raise the pressure of the fluid it seems to me that it supply the fluid with kinetic energy how this mechanism raise the pressure

    • @VikingPumpInc
      @VikingPumpInc  Před rokem +1

      Rotary positive displacement pumps - like the vane pump - are flow creating machines. Any pressure that is created is dependent on a number of factors. We cover these in our video Flow vs Pressure: czcams.com/video/Upx-ecYwCLw/video.html

      @@cck1496 The full list of industrial applications is too numerous to list here, but vane pumps are typically used on thin, low-viscosity applications like solvents or alcohol. For more information, here is a link to our LVP Series™ www.vikingpump.com/pumps/vane/lvp-series
