1:23 The anguished scream of anger, desperation, and deep betrayl that Wrex yells out as he charges Shepard is heartbreaking. This play through is never ever worth it lol. Usually a Krogan will charge with intent to kill and anger but Wrex's charge was filled with the pits of despair that his people will die because of the trust he placed in shepard.
ikr? It is almost as if Wrex knew he was not brave enough to kill his friend on sight even after her/his betrayal, that he just wanted an explanation to see if Shepard was sure about that being the right choice, in which case would be better to die on her/his hands. The interesting thing is that Wrex will really have the opportunity to kill Shepard if you doubt on renegade quick time event, which can be interpeted as Shepard doubting about choosing to betray Wrex.
I didn’t even know this was possible. I honestly felt a little sick watching this. It’s so wrong, when you know how beautiful your friendship with Wrex can be.
This is why I can't do a Renegade playthrough. Wrex is one of my favorite characters, and Krogan one of my favorite races. I can't bring myself to screwing him over.
@@countspider6488 likewise. I've never seen this cut-scene before because I only sabotage the cure if Wreav is in charge. And in that case, you almost have to, because he spends the whole time bragging about how he's going to lead the Krogan in a revenge-campaign against the council species.
You don't have to pick just renegade options though, I never go fully one way as some decisions are incredibly shortsighted for both paths and some renegade interrupts are too juicy too pass up on even if I'm trying to be good. Just picking top or bottom respectively feels a bit one dimensional imho.
After the line of "It should've been this way back on Vermire but I made the mistake of trusting you, believing you were my friend". If Wrex had followed that up with "Maybe you were but that Shepard died a hero a long time ago". A line like that would hit me hard at least.
"It should have been this way back on Virmire, but I made the mistake of trusting you, believing you were my friend." "I was your friend on Virmire, Wrex." A grunt. "Maybe you were, but then you died. Whatever way they brought you back to life, it left out your humanity. Fitting, considering Cerberus was responsible for it."
I know right. Ive played about a 1000 myself and only ever managed to complete a Renegade playthrough on ME2, and I can say with confidence that I did not enjoy it lol. It was immensely difficult to complete; I really had to force it
Great scene, for the most tragic of reasons, but Wrex isn't dumb. Maybe rage would've blinded his rationality in the moment, but still, he's krogan. Five Carnifex shots, that's it? The confrontation is still good, but I would expect blood rage to kick in over Shepard's decision.
He was done dirty by his best bro. So dirty that it doomed his entire race. Hard to fill a heart with rage when it's been flooded with that much sorrow.
It isn't that hard. ME1: You either have high paragon/renegade and level up charm/intimidate to calm him, which, considering you only need 8 in charm/intimidate, you can get him with a small paragon/renegade allignment. You need 8 points in charm/intimidate to convince him. It's possible to unlock the ability to level to 8 charm with just the spectre bonus and the 10% paragon bonus, which you can get before even taking command of the Normandy due to the high number of points you get for the first few level ups and the plentiful opportunities for paragon dialogue. Same for the renegade/intimidate path. Alternatively you talk to him a few times between a few missions (don't even have to be main missions) and get his family arnor back, gaining his trust and making it much easier to convince him. ME3: with Wrex alive, sabotage the cure. How is that an insane amount of work? I got his ME1 armor quest after just getting Liara and completing a few side missions, cos I talked to my squad when I returned to the ship after looking around for them to see if they had anything. Like, I'd agree if it wasn't a pretty straightforawrd path to save him. if there were multiple failable quests involving his loyalty in ME1 and he could be part of the suicide run and get killed in 2 if disloyal or a victim of your choices not being good, there were multiple factors outside of his armor and/or paragon/renegade speech checks. There's only a few scenarios where he dies in ME1. Not completeing his quest locks you into needing to convince him via paragon/renegade speech check, which you can unlock by leveling into charm/intimidate after just a few minor/major choices. You kinda need to go through atleast a few major choices to unlock Virmire.
Iirc one of the books talked about this. Something about shields needing to be manually activated or something. I don’t know, but a like of dialogue would fix the confusion
I was about to make a comment about this. Wrex isn't dumb. Maybe rage would've blinded his rationality in the moment, but still, he's krogan. Five Carnifex shots, that's it? The scene is still good, but I would expect blood rage to kick in over Shepard's decision.
Had to use the default world state back when ME 3 first came out cause I lost my save. Fun fact, there's no way to save both Quarians and Geth with that default state. I replayed that last confrontation probably half a dozen times before letting the Geth go extinct, despite the fact I agreed with their plight. Helps that Legion wasn't around, I suppose.
Lol I’m playing through the trilogy for the first time with the legendary edition (yes I’m old enough to have played the originals but didn’t) and got that one because I thought legion would call off the geth fleet and not destroy the quarians. Wrong lol. But at least the geth are a more dangerous and effective ally
I always do the Paragon ending to Garrus' mission in ME2 as well. It feels more compelling for him to realize that just gunning down someone in cold blood isn't him.
This is actually one of my favorite scenes, I love how the Renegade speech option doesn’t work. We are so used to that being a solve all problems button but this time you couldn’t talk your way out of it.
My first play through I sabotaged the cure and when I was confronted with this scene I went: “Holy shit”. Huge props for BioWare for putting in a consequence for your action.
This should have been a "game over" moment. Wrex shoots you in the head, and the "Critical Mission Failure" screen appears. You betrayed a brother. You deserve nothing less.

At first I cured the genophage, but after hearing a few words from Wrex about the rapid settlement of a bunch of planets by Krogans and mention that the Krogans would want to take revenge. I decided to change my mind, despite the fact that I played for Paragon.
are you sure wrex was the one stating it and not wreav? i mean, from my memories, wrex was the person uniting the krogans with the assistance from eve, considering she survived the last mission on tuchanka. wreav (not sure how to spell his name), on the other hand, was talking about revenge and how he would like to participate in it. not saying i'm telling the truth, just trying to recall things ^^
This is so heartbreaking to watch, I don't know how I never knew this scene existed... I mean I always play full Paragon so yeah... but it's never popped up for me online either until today. This scene makes me feel sad & sick :'(
@@ArchiBarrel1991 Later on in years I would me a man named Rax, and he's now one of my closest friends. Literally looking at him you see the human embodiment of a Krogan.
Even playing as a renegade I couldn’t do this to Wrex. He was the only one who didn’t complain about my choices even after killing the council. He was more than a friend he was a true bro 😢
I agree with someone else that this should’ve been a game over scene. Wrex was in full gear and Shepard was literally in casual wear unarmed. Wrex should’ve killed you. This should’ve been saved for if Wreav was the one that was alive and you betrayed.
The renegade choices in ME3 just feel straight up evil in the previous games being a renegade felt morally grey you could be a snarky asshole but nonetheless got the job done but nin ME3 you make choices that make you look like a villianous sociopath you should be Bringing the galaxy together not tearing it apart fooling the krogans to extinction out if fear then the krogan rebellions will happen again is inconsequential to the damage the reapers could do
@@Nick-qq2nq I disagree. ME1 and ME2 renegade options are just straight up psychotic. ME3 renegade options are more in the grey zone, because Shepard's decision making is influenced by their need to get help for earth. The only way Shepard could secure the help of both Krogan and Salarian would be to sabotage the cure. If your goal is to get as much manpower as you possibly can, then it's something even a hero might have considered.
@@sealdude5581 Sooner or later the Salarians would contribute in the war anyway (Spoiler, saving the original Salarian Councilor from Asian Robot Ninja grants you the full Salarian fleet even if the Genophage was cured)
@@pilotero3898 I know, but Shepard wouldn't know this at the time. It depends on whether you're roleplaying your decisions in the game, or you're meta-gaming with the knowledge of how the game is gonna turn out.
This whole scene hurts. I dont give a fuck if I'm doing a Renegade playthrough, I will ALWAYS help Wrex. You don't destroy a brother like that. You just don't.
I made a Renegade Shepard, but she was always mean / strict to those who gave her trouble. Her crew, her friends? Nice and funny to be around. You don't have to go 100% on Renegade because otherwise ME 3's Renegade is just borderline evil and cruel, nothing badass about it. Wrex deserves much better.
I'd say ME3 Renegade is more desperate than evil. Still despicable morally, but if faced with the same choices in real life, with real lives on the line, making those choices isn't as easy. Because despite the ideal that most everyone strives for, morality is often forgotten at wartime.
@@thegreyeyedcat9142 I researched this a while back & if I remember right you DO get the most if you fake genophage and properly get Krogan's & Salarians but only slightly more than curing Genophage. I think it's better if wreav is there and not wrex, based on choices from previous games I guess (Wrex catching you fake Genophage).
Must've been one hell of a pistol to put Wrex down. The trilogy made krogans sound like real meat sponges with redundant organs and dull nerve system to fight pain.
This makes me thankful that I only ever play as paragon...dear god, I could never imagine screwing over Wrex and his people. Him and Grunt are like, the best bois.
After all you've been through, after Virmire, you owe Wrex, not just a genophage cure, but you owe him your trust that he'll make good on his promises that the Krogan aren't going to repeat their mistakes. This isn't renegade, it's just evil.
By the beginning of ME1, Wrex had given up on his people. He worked as a merc and tried to act like he didn't care anymore. Then Shepherd gives them hope again, causing Wrex to return to Tuchanka and start building a future for his people. To go through all that, only to be betrayed by the person that gave him hope in the first place... heartbreaking.
They should’ve added an optional boss fight against Wrex within that room of the Citadel if you made this choice. It would’ve made his actual death seem more realistic, aside from the added drama of a boss fight. That one pistol shot does not make sense logically.
That "pistol" is an M-6 Carnifex, which is possibly the most powerful pistol the player can equip themselves with; there's a reason why advertisements ask you if you wish Carnifex was at your side while featuring a charging Krogan, you know.
Wrex) Shepherd I know what you did, the cure for the genophage was a fake!. Shepherd) Calm down Wrex why would I betray you? I've known you for years. Wrex) Why should I believe you your space Hitler!

Usually a Krogan will charge with intent to kill and anger but Wrex's charge was filled with the pits of despair that his people will die because of the trust he placed in shepard.
He sounds like he's gonna cry it broke my heart 😭
I can hear the tears in his words. He hates doing this, but you betrayed him, he feels used.
But in memento to the friendship you once had, he'll make this kill quick. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that way.
@@JGTheGamerHad it been anybody else, including his own brother he sacrificed to save you, he wouldn't be so generous.
"Might have to space this one". Damn. The disrespect.
He doesn't know him, besides, wrex attacked shep in cold blood, and bailey respects shepard. it fits. nothing wrong here.
You can really only do full renegade is Wreav is in control, if he’s in charge then I have no problems sabotaging the genophage.
@@countspider6488 likewise. I've never seen this cut-scene before because I only sabotage the cure if Wreav is in charge. And in that case, you almost have to, because he spends the whole time bragging about how he's going to lead the Krogan in a revenge-campaign against the council species.
Who says you cant be a renegade and help wrex.
There also is no real pay off, it would have been worth it if some unique incentives or weapons were included.
Ooh. I love it.
Wrex: "Or maybe my friend the hero never came out of the Cerberus shithole that spawned you!"
@@trevalyan006 now that sounds good 👍
"It should have been this way back on Virmire, but I made the mistake of trusting you, believing you were my friend."
"I was your friend on Virmire, Wrex."
A grunt. "Maybe you were, but then you died. Whatever way they brought you back to life, it left out your humanity. Fitting, considering Cerberus was responsible for it."
I've played 1500 hours on ME 1, 2 and 3 combined and will never see this scenario play out because I am not an asshole.
I know right. Ive played about a 1000 myself and only ever managed to complete a Renegade playthrough on ME2, and I can say with confidence that I did not enjoy it lol. It was immensely difficult to complete; I really had to force it
I only did this once and that was only because I was doing a fail trilogy play through for shits and giggles
same here, wrex is a bro,he deserves better than this.
Same here. I see getting renegade points as a bad thing
Love this trilogy...but 1500 hours. Props 👏👏👏
I mean, Carnifex's adverts are asking if you wished you had a Carnifex at your side, when faced with a charging Krogan
@@hm-mt3wj they made sure that this gun could stop a krogan
He was trying to die.
its an insane amount of work to save wrex just to kill him in 3
It's a lot of work to save Wrex?
It isn't that hard.
ME1:
You either have high paragon/renegade and level up charm/intimidate to calm him, which, considering you only need 8 in charm/intimidate, you can get him with a small paragon/renegade allignment.
@@kinorris1709 don't even need the quest to get the armor in ME1 I found the damn thing just randomly exploring planets
Shepard: Wrex
Wrex: Shepard
Glad that they included that, despite what came after.
"Wouldn't you want a Carnifex at your side?"
“ It can stop a charging Krogan! “ god I thought of that too lol
Ha, well at least the ad was honest. 😂
Always convenient for plot when somehow shields are never up and krogans are easily shot
Iirc one of the books talked about this. Something about shields needing to be manually activated or something.
I don’t know, but a like of dialogue would fix the confusion
But like…Krogans were a galactic threat at one point? Did the Turians just not think to use pistols!? lol
I was about to make a comment about this. Wrex isn't dumb. Maybe rage would've blinded his rationality in the moment, but still, he's krogan. Five Carnifex shots, that's it? The scene is still good, but I would expect blood rage to kick in over Shepard's decision.
Shields and multiple organs are no match for plot bullets.
Admittedly the cutscene plot bullets always kill people in one shot
Making wrex needing like five shots feel impressive
This is a cutscene i will never see in my playthroughs, along with the one that tali kills herself
@@Colbio legion's death is sad AF too
Lol I’m playing through the trilogy for the first time with the legendary edition (yes I’m old enough to have played the originals but didn’t) and got that one because I thought legion would call off the geth fleet and not destroy the quarians. Wrong lol. But at least the geth are a more dangerous and effective ally
i honestly underestimated the stupidity of Gerrel so i accidentally drove Tali to suicide during my first ME3 run.
@@javiernegron2633 ah, rookie mistake, if there is one thing you can never underestimate, is other people stupidity
I really like the parallels with Vermire except you can't talk yourself out of this one, which makes sense.
Shit... I could never go through with the sabotage. No matter how renegade I made Shepard. Anything that was bad for Wrex or Garrus I could never do.
the... what now?
@@pacdrax I misspelled sabotage... whoopsie daisies
Huge props for BioWare for putting in a consequence for your action.
god its easy to forget how insanely different some playthroughs can go.
Just knowing that this is a possibility hurts my soul
I could never kill off Wrex, he's just too awesome
This should have been a "game over" moment. Wrex shoots you in the head, and the "Critical Mission Failure" screen appears.
You betrayed a brother. You deserve nothing less.
This should've been a Boss fight, not a shitty cutscene
I always wanted to see this reaction to Wrex Being Betrayed...I am unwilling to mess up 3 games of cannon to have this done on my watch even in a game.
Same .. 2 weeks ago i started a ren. Play through and im in me 2 now regretting it its just uncomfortable flat out ! These are the family that helps lift you to save everything ... Not kill and mame it 😧
You could use a trilogy save editor if you're on PC. idk if it works for console as well.
"Too big for a coffin, might have to space this one." That's just such a cherry on the cake of HORRIBLE.
Also have to say, props to devs for putting this scene in the game later on, rather than right after, to make sure people won't just reload after seeing it.
That scream he does after being shot the first time breaks my heart. I’ve played the renegade path before this is just twisted and sad.
This is why I prefer being a paragon, most options are sensible while most renegade are downright…barbaric
That’s only in mass effect 3 in 1-2 the renegade is more on the side of bad ass but in 3 there just evil
@@emilio7616 Nah, in ME1 you're a racist/supremacist and in ME2 you're agreeing with terrorists and supremacists. ME3 doesn't seem like much of a leap to me

If you chose this option…….. you don’t have a soul.
I literally just died of shock!!!!!!!!!!! Props to the developers for even considering this option! It's also why I have only played as a full renegade in only 1 full playthrough of the series.
This scene makes me feel sad & sick :'(
I’ve never done this option as I love Wrex and the Krogan, so actually seeing this breaks something inside me that was never meant to break.

I'm proud that I would never see this on one of my playthroughs. Turning Shepard into a filthy rat.
The renegade choices in ME3 just feel straight up evil in the previous games being a renegade felt morally grey you could be a snarky asshole but nonetheless got the job done but nin ME3 you make choices that make you look like a villianous sociopath you should be Bringing the galaxy together not tearing it apart fooling the krogans to extinction out if fear then the krogan rebellions will happen again is inconsequential to the damage the reapers could do
Mass effect 1 renegade: asshole
Mass effect 2 renegade: badass
Mass effect 3 renegade: genocidal psychopath

Doesn't fake genophage give you the most Galactic Readiness points because you can get the krogan's (by trickery) & slarians to side with you?
I heard the salarians join up with you anyway afterwards. Idk tho I’m playing thru it rn
@@thegreyeyedcat9142 I researched this a while back & if I remember right you DO get the most if you fake genophage and properly get Krogan's & Salarians but only slightly more than curing Genophage. And this is why I choose to help the krogan survive to whoever chose to do that was a stupid move
The champion of Kirkwall getting slapped at the beginning is something
Ok I didn’t even know this was a thing until now…thanks for that heartbreak. 😢😢😢
