  • 3rd Party Camera Control is now available for the Hi-5, when using either the cforce mini RF or RIA-1 as a motor controller.
    In this video, Sean will walk you through setting up the Sony Venice and Venice 2, RED DSMC2 cameras and the RED Komodo/V-Raptor to enable camera control for Hi-5. Please use the chapters in the video to jump to the most relevant section for you.
    Additionally, it's also possible to inject lens metadata into a Sony Venice or Venice 2, and there is a dedicated tutorial section on that at the end of this video.

    Hey everyone! Just a note to say that the release of SUP 2.1 for the cforce mini RF has enabled control of RED DSMC2 cameras that have a Base Expander module attached, so that small part of this Tech Talk is now out of date. Cheers, Sean.

    Thanks Sean for yr video. Very clear explanations as usual.
    Our focus fuller got 2 cables to get the lens metadata in the 2 Sony Venice we're shooting with. We connected a RF motor for focus and 1 CForce Mini for iris. Then the LCube and the CineRT, and connected to extra power as you mention. The focus shows metadata in the monitor as expected. The iris readout shows a wrong value.
    The focus control works well, but the iris doesn't.
    Changing values for the iris control ring in the Hi-5 works as if there iris scale was corrupt , turning the ring a bit at the beginning, and as the HI-5 keep changing values, the ring doesn't move, and almost at the end of the scale in the Hi-5, it suddenly changes the iris to almost the end of the scale.
    We were able to repeat this scenario with the other cable with another motors in the other camera body.
    Firmware versions in camera and motors are the latest published by Sony and Arri respectively.
    We contacted Paco in the local distributor in Spain, revised the setup with him based on your video, without success.
    Right now we have no motor for the iris, but there's a readout in the monitor for the Iris,. I don't know where it is coming from.
    Is there any detail we could have missed.?
    Any other test that we could run?
    Is there any error reported about this?
    Thanks !

      Hey Esteban, sorry to hear you're struggling with this. It sounds like the RIA-1 may have an LDA in it that needs to be cleared if the iris values are still showing without an iris motor, have you tried running a factory reset on the RIA-1? This needs to be examined by our ECS service team, could you please write an email to service@arri.de and include as much information on the firmware versions of your equipment (including motors) and include a video. Thanks!

      @@ARRIChannel Hey Sean. Thanks for your reply,
      There are 2 parts in what I mention
      Just to clarify ... We are not using a RIA-1. We just have the lens metadata injection cable, as it's the part we needed.
      Cameras are Venice 2 with latest firmware. Motors too.
      1- The setup consists of a CForce Mini RF for focus, a CForce Mini for iris, the lens metadata injection cable, the lcube and the CineRT horns, then connected to extra power as you mention in the video.
      We have set up everything as you show in the video (last part) with the exception that we added the lcube and CineRT horns that you don't have.
      Additionally, we tested it exactly as you show as well.
      The focus and iris info are shown in the monitor, focus works as expected, but as we start moving the iris, it starts slightly moving, then doesn’t move anymore until we reach the end of the run , then the ring moves quickly to reach the end. As if the iris motor had 2 values declared in the LDA. The read on screen changes together with it.
      Maybe a power issue? we have to test this with a zoom, to see it it still persists, but I think it will.
      We were able to reproduce this in another cam body with a different metadata cable and motors.
      2- In this case the setup consists of a CForce Mini RF for focus, NO motor for iris (because of issue #1), the metadata cable, the lcube and the CineRT horns, then connected to extra power as you mention.
      When we clear the LDA from the HI-5, the lens values disappear from the monitor, as expected. But we can't trigger the Rec. We loaded a different LDA, and it doesn't show in the monitor, and can't trigger the Rec. We then restarted the camera and all worked as expected, with just 1 motor for focus.
      In some cases that we can't track, the value of the iris appears in the monitor, although we don't have a motor for it. Just exists in the LDA we loaded, but is not in use because of issue 1.
      Do you have any similar report?
      We’ll report this to service@arri.de as well.
      Thanks !

    Hey ! Thx for this nice video, everything was cristal clear as always !
    I was just wondering, would the new cable Cam7p to ENG 12p also work with the older Arri Amira PL Mount ENG ?
    Am I gonna be able, using a RIA-1 with a Cam 7p to Ext 6p for camera control and then a CForce Mini RF with Cam7p to ENG 12p both connected with Lbus, to inject Lens Metadata in the Amira ?

    • @ARRIChannel
      @ARRIChannel  Před rokem

      Hey Romain, you raise an interesting point. Currently this should work with metric lens data, but it's actually outside the scope of what we had intended for the RIA-1. But, it should work, good idea, and we'll follow this up :)

    Hello and thank you for this great video, just to be sure: with the Sony licence into an Hi-5 connected to the Venice by a RF motor would I be able to access to the camera settings (ISO, Playback, NDs ...) ? I do need the cable ARRI CAM 7P to Sony Remote 8P/D-Tap Cable right? I don't have a RIA-1 in my setup and do not want to if this can be done only through the RF. Thank you very much for answering!

    • @ARRIChannel
      @ARRIChannel  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hey there - yes, you can access the full functionality of the SONY Camera Control License Key with the cforce mini RF. There is no difference in functionality between the RIA-1 and cforce mini RF when it comes to that license, and yes that is the correct cable - K2.0047268

    Hi thx for the vid. So if you want to use focus metering for the Komodo you need the RIA and not the the build in receiver in the motor? do you have any lens data capability into the red camera? thx in advance

    • @ARRIChannel
      @ARRIChannel  Před rokem

      Hi there, there is currently no possibility for injecting lens metadata into a RED camera. There is also no difference in the capability of the license when using the cforce mini RF or RIA-1.

    Hi Sean.
    If we work with Rialto.
    It´s Pòsible use this cable?
    Thanks

    • @ARRIChannel
      @ARRIChannel  Před rokem

      Hey there, unfortunately the Rialto head does not include the REMOTE connector, nor the standard LENS connector, so camera control is not possible with a motor controller mounted to the Rialto. Camera control would be possible with a RIA-1 mounted to the camera body and a long LBUS cable (up to 15m) running to a cforce motor mounted to the Rialto head. We'd also recommend having a power source at the Rialto head such as LBUS to DTap.

  • @m4xb00k
    @m4xb00k Před rokem +1

    Please be advised., with Sony Venice cameras saving your user setup won't work, once you save your user set up it locks you on the mode you are using (EI: Normal or RCP), and when using RCP mode the camera won't output a LUT to monitor, everything will be locked out to viewing Slog. It's pretty silly that Venice doesn't playback at 2X speed, it won't allow to change settings from the camera once in RCP mode and that the lens data can't be supply via the remote connector, they really need to fix those things and the speed the display of the lens happens.
