  • Hosts Suzanne and Anna have a little Fun with Mod and demonstrate an amazing technique to add a "Crackle" effect to any painted surface using Mod Podge, Milk Paint, and any base you want (be it acrylic, chalk, or more!) Upcycle vintage books, craft fun outdoor decor, and even refinish furniture with a rustic look using this technique using Mod Podge and a hair dryer! (And any kind of hair dryer will work. Trust us. This worked very well! First time I tried it I didn't put enough Mod Podge on it....then I made the layer a bit heavier. That was the ticket to get the grooves!
    I have also been tinting white milk paint with Folk art paint colors. I am hooked!!! TFS!

    Does it have to be milk paint ? Can you just put the MP down and put any paint over it to crackle? Do you have to use a dryer for it to crackle???

    Does this work if you already have a painting that's mostly dry or does the mod podge have to be used with wet paint to have the crackle effect?

    Do u have to use a blow dryer for it to work? Or does the blow dryer just speed up the process?

    Can this technique be used by using ordinary acrylic paints?
    I live in Oman and don't have access to these paints which you've shown in your video.

    I live in Montreal Canada and i went to the Michael store and they told me they removed all the mod podge dishwasher safe from the shelves cuz it was not safe. Do you know anything about that? If not how can i find out more info about it

      Environment Canada recently notified retailers and manufacturers that some products contain a chemical (2-butoxyethanol) at a level above the allowable limit (.5%) in Canada. Accordingly, those products have been removed from the marketplace. Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe is one of those products. Plaid is working diligently to reformulate the product and to resume production for the Canadian market. Plaid also notes that other Mod Podge products, such as Matte and Gloss, are within the allowable limit, and they continue to be available for purchase in Canada. Thank you for your support of Plaid products.

    Hi can you use it on glass bottles . What paints do you suggest :)

    • @plaidcrafts
      @plaidcrafts  Před 6 lety +1

      FolkArt Milk Paint (as shown in the video) is best used on surfaces that are very porous (such as raw wood). Therefore, glass is not considered the best type of surface for FolkArt Milk Paint unless the glass or ceramic surface was to be used for decorative purposes only. If trying to crackle a glass surface using this Mod Podge technique, perhaps the best paint to use would be FolkArt Home Decor Chalk which will adhere to glass better than FolkArt Milk Paint would. However, this glass project should also be used for decorative purposes only as both the Mod Podge and FolkArt Home Decor Chalk are not dishwasher safe.

    I am trying to find if I can Mod Podge Crackle a simple printed art. If I put down polyurethane water-based over the print first and then put the Mod Podge matte over it will it crackle but yet be clear? I want to aged it and not have to use a glass.

    should u only use it on wood, or can you use it on other things too?

    • @plaidcrafts
      @plaidcrafts  Před 7 lety +1

      You can use it on other surfaces. We used wood in this project because the milk paint works best with unfinished wood.
