    Love that you mention how you usually have a favorite in your smackdowns. The great thing is that you never really show it or give a biased presentation. You give it straight and I always leave your videos with a clear idea of pros and cons on every aspect to make a decision based on personal preference and circumstance!

    Even though I always watch and appreciate your reviews, I'd really like to see specs written on-screen when you name them. It really makes it difficult to follow and try to remember all those specs without a visual aid. Hope you can find a way to do it.

    Literally got the surface pro 6 for mostly drawing + other graphic design etc, and was peeved by how much I've had to spend on the extra products like the pen, keyboard, mouse etc which I was not expecting and also found out that the wacom pen that used to work with it no longer does (for the 2019 model), which I was hoping to buy vs the surface pen as it's more the style of pen i prefer, and was thinking about taking it back to swap for this laptop instead... so this review helps a tonne as really i need a laptop more than a tablet as I draw and also write and edit novels, plus also photography so need the photo editing too, which the surface is really hard to do with the keyboard compared to a laptop which im more used to, but really the price to me has been the biggest thing and it ended up being nearly double the price of the spectre with all the 2019 stuff that's come out as now, say the 2018 keyboard isn't compatible with the 2019 surface pro 6 and it's an extra $100 for literally being a few mm bigger and no real difference to the 2018 keyboard, so think this review has helped me make up my mind as so much more of the spectre would suit me and all the info and comparisons you've given on them helped me realise that, than to stay with the surface, so thanks!

    Lisa, thanks for the smack down. I have the older Spectre and love it, I have also owned the SP6 for a couple of weeks (yeah, I like to cycle through a lot of computers) and if I were to settle on something it would be the Spectre. I am more of a person that needs a decent laptop, hook it up to an external display and enjoy. I am not a carry it around type of person, though even in a coffee shop I like to have it just in laptop format. I do like the Spectre screen a lot as well. But still I would like to see something like a 3:2 as the SP6 gives but a tad larger. Right now I am using a powerful Surface Book 1 and the Spectre together, because.... I cannot decide either :-)

      As soon as I bought it, I started to set it up, I noticed that the screen colors were a bit off , they looked burned out, but I didn’t mind it that much. So I opened like three tabs on chrome, It started heating like crazy so I shut it down for a few hours, restarted it, and began to do some minor tasks and catching up on assignment and by minor I mean only Microsoft word, it made a weird static noise, I literally Thought it was going to explode at any moment. It was quite disappointing because I’ve been waited for the gem cut version for a while now! When I took it back the IT guy told me that I shouldn’t use it on a fabric Surface. Btw I got the 1080p version with the privacy kill switch, which only works from one angle, And anyone next to you can see what you’re working on. Also the trackpad is a bit loose it makes a Ticking sound during motion!!

      the way their making things today aren't like they use to; 3-5 decades ago. you have to understand the world is in demand faster and faster than the speed of light, so keeping up with the latest is vital to many and not to some, but carefully knowing what your buying. A device in this category needs 1) An accessible battery that can be replaced and, 2) Type C/TB3 for mobile charging. Otherwise, you're spending on a $2000 portable device that will have limited portability after 2 years. After years using an SP3, this is an unavoidable reality that should be factored into the purchasing evaluation.
    Where ever the Surface Pro starts in terms of battery life, eventually you'll only get 2-3 hours of unplugged use (light use). Also, the battery I/O seems to be unstable (sometimes it doesn't recognize that it's being charged). Considering the device itself is still good enough to be my full-time work computer when plugged in, it's a shame that I can't really take it anywhere without the power brick. And since Microsoft won't give us Type-C, there's no slow charging with a portable battery.
    I love the Surface line but Microsoft is holding back way too much on the specs at this point in the game and the "fan tax" is up there with Apple products so I can't recommend them right now.
    I hope Microsoft gets back in the game with the SP7, SB3, and Studio 3. Right now, they're worse than Apple when it comes to outdated hardware at next-generation pricing.

      www.technoworld.com/microsoft-hvu-00003-surface-connect-usb-c-black-cable-interface-gender-adapter
      (But you would need to check if it works with SP3. Microsoft say it works with "the latest Surface Pros" - not very specific! - apparently the SP4 works though they don't mention it). It is expensive at $80

    I purchased the Surface Pro 6 bundled at Costco, replacing a dead iPad and a 10 year old Lenovo that still is churning. I am very pleased with the 6. I wanted to be able to run office and turbotax but mostly use it as a tablet when watching tv. An office laptop given to me so i don't complete work on the 6. The picture quality and screen size are much better than the iPad and portability is the same. There are not many cases out there that allow the kickstand to work and the one I did purchase fits fine but the pen does not fit in the holder. As with the iPad you have to buy a case, the 6 would not withstand any drop without damage IMHO.

    I bought the HP laptop and ended up having to return it. I had many issues with the Wi-Fi. I was getting very slow downloads. I went through the full spectrum of troubleshooting on my own and with support. They were not able to get it resolved and after four days I decided to return the $2000 plus laptop. The issue definitely was not with my wireless router as when I used an external Wi-Fi adapter my speeds went from 20 Mbps to 200 Mbps. In addition to this, the file transfers were much slower than I would have expected. Too many issues out of the gate to risk getting stuck with a lemon.

      I too just bought the HP and had some QA issues with them. I really love this thing so I ended up returning mine a total of 3 times, for 4 new units before I got one that was good to go. From speaker issues, like left side completely stopped working, touch pad poor installation, and finally overheating issues on the last one, the fans never stopped it was insane. All that, I did notice the last one, and one I kept, seemed like it may have been on the shelf longer as there was a substantial amount of more updates it needed than the others. I will say, now that I've got a "good" one, I'm very impressed and it's functionality is top notch. I'm glad I went through the trouble of returning it and very glad I purchased through my local BestBuy. I generally buy everything on-line, but in this case it was worth it to just be able to drive back the to store and exchange it. I did all the exchanges in 2 days! Thanks BESTBUY!! Now, HP has some work to do on their QA for sure, disappointing that they have so many faulty units out there, so if you buy one, do it somewhere where you can exchange it easily and don't settle for nothing less than perfection, they can do and for the price I wouldn't make any compromises.

    How's the durability on both? For example, if I carry them in my backpack and accidentally drop my bag? Or if I drop it with no protection by accident? How are the screens if there's pressure pressed upon it like it a stuffed backpack? How much will it curve? How much can it handle? I will do a lot of travelling with one of them. They are both good, so I think a lot of the deciding factor will come to the durability of it.

    The HP looks nice but WHY do computer companies still insist on putting those stupid stickers on them? I can see it for store display units but it makes a great design look absolutely stupid when there are big stickers on there like the Intel one or even worse when they have multiple stickers tell you what processor you have, how much ram, hard drive, display size, etc.
    The HP was nice to look at but the second I saw that stupid decal it was like walking up to a nice looking car and you found a giant bird poo on it along with the dealership that sold it putting their name on the back as a glued on piece as well as a sticker in the corner of the rear window.

    • @mjs28s
      @mjs28s Před 5 lety +1

      @Josh Arma
      Rarely some will come off nice and clean. Most leave adhesive residue or are made from cheaper materials that are more paper than plastic and you end up with a mess that you should have just left alone. Or you end up spending 15 minutes with a hair dryer or alcohol or even a razor blade to get them off. Soaking the paper ones with dish soap only works sometimes.
      Its almost like you don't live in the real world or somehow you are somehow lucky enough to never buy anything with decals or stickers that don't readily come off or really ever come off without leaving residue, shredded paper from the decals or even a slightly discolored spot that in some lighting you will always see where the decals were no matter how well you clean them
      I could send you a variety of stickers if you want and you can slap them on the hood of your car and them tell me, "umm.. stickers are removable".
      Thanks for the stupid answer though.

      In all honesty, with a screen that small and no dedicated GPU you may as well save yourself the extra cash and go for the 1080p panel - the difference shouldn't be too obvious on a 13" panel (as opposed to, say, a 23" monitor) and you'll get better battery life to boot.
      Having thunderbolt means you can connect it to an eGPU though.

    I actually have a bit of a problem and hope that community will be able to help ;)
    So, i am going to upgrade my laptop soon and i want something i can draw on this time.
    I am pretty convinced that i want the Thinkpad X1 Tablet, i love the form factor. However, aside from testing surface devices on a microsoft stand in store, I am actually unsure about something.
    That something is - is the tablet from better for drawing? Or would 2 in 1 with a 360 degree hinge be better in that case? The other device i though about was specte x360 (15 inch, if i have an option, i will always opt for a bigger screen). The best possibility would be to get a surface book 2, but they are way to expensive, and i could get a pretty nice deals on both X1T and Spectre. Anybody had a chance to use both devices?

    • @transitvideosbayarea
      @transitvideosbayarea Před 5 lety

      Soldium A tablet is better for drawing. So if you intend on drawing, Surface has a better pen. Although keep in mind most professional artists use dedicated drawing tablets from Wacom, Huion etc rather than 2in1s. Both the Lenovo and the Surface have great keyboards, but Lenovo swaps the places of the ctrl and fn keys, but may have a slight edge in the keyboards. But Lenovo has worse speakers, dimmer screen, and may be more expensive.

      @transitvideosbayarea Před 5 lety

      @@hryank33 You can? It's like the Surface, you draw directly on the screen and lines appear? You just have to transfer the picture to a computer later to upload or to save it. Except dedicated tablets have less latency and generally make for a more enjoyable experience.

      @hryank33 Před 5 lety

      The Metropolis I know there is one with a screen but it is like $600 but the $90 one it is just a black slate and you have to look at the computer screen to see what you are drawing. That is what I don’t get how people do that, but then they probably gotten used to it.

    My surface pro 2017 (Core i5, 8gb, 256gb) was great when I bought it but the costs racked up quickly to add to the £1250 I paid for the thing itself. Type cover, pen, dock and a variety of dongles and cables soon racked the total cost up to over £1800. But just over a year after I bought it the battery began to tank, and then the device itself. Completely unusable now. Would never buy another one again, which is a shame, because when it was good it was really good.

    Easily the x360. one thing reviews usually never mention is longevity and repairability. good luck replacing the surface pro's battery/screen etc.
    once the battery in the surface pro gets old it's just a very expensive brick. not even third parties offer battery replacements and neither does Microsoft. Depending on your usage prepare to throw it out in 2-3 years. if you're unlucky or do a ton maybe even 1.5 yaers (unlikely unless you drain it to 0 and charge it to 100% everyday)
    on the other hand if the x360's battery dies you can even do it at home. the display is more hard to replace but if you really want to you can do it at home or just give it to a third party simply.
