DC was indeed a world class player and probably the greatest 10 to date, which as an Englishman and huge Wilko fan shows my respect for him. However, the thing about the ABs in their pomp is that the whole squad, to a man, did their jobs incredibly well and all could catch, pass, tackle and run their hearts out and be there in support for each other. The 2015 squad that won the world cup is probably the best example of this.
That being said, another player whom I greatly admire and has some great highlights for the ABs and a number of clubs is Ma'a Nonu. Definitely worth checking out.
Cullen is my favourite player all time but Dan Carter is the GOAT of backs. Complete player, no weaknesses, mentality monster. He literally had it all
Chris Cullen, Matt Burke and Andre Joubert all played during the same era.
This fact still blows my mind
It's impossible to label a singl;e reason for AB dominance during 2015 era as a person, like you point out :D
But Carter is on the same level as McCaw in terms of his importance to the team as well as individual contribution. He is in every single conversation about a possible goat as a player
Kick = any form of kick
Chip = short kick going up and down, usually just above the first defensive line
Grubber = low bouncing kick that skips along the ground
Up and Under = Very high and short kick, chased by the kicker or his team and competed for
Dan Carter is one of the best,,, and his kicking was unmatched...
I've watched his documentary and really found it inspiring. His wife was the Captain of the NZ Hockey team. After watching a latter interview, in relation to that NFL contract, he found it hard to change to that code, he said he even found it hard trying to get use to that ball. Sometimes changing codes does not work for many people.
Dan Carter is the whole package and the best 10 ever!! 😊
One of the highlights of my life as an American living in New Zealand is kicking a goal at Dan Carter's childhood home. (My ex grew up as his neighbour in the small village of Southbridge)
The thing about Dan Carter is that he was the complete player. As a place kicker, he was as close to automatic as you could get. But he was also a fantastic tactical kicker from the hand, he could run with the ball, gave quick passes, had that extra bit of flair to his game, and could do his defensive job to a high level as well. You will find a lot of excellent place kickers with super high percentages, but it was the fact he could do all the other bits to an elite level is what sets him apart. Truly one of the greats.
I'm annoyed with myself that I can't remember for sure, but I think I was at that game at the beginning where he did the kick with the crazy bend on it (for the crusaders against the highlanders at Carisbrook). But in my defence, when I was going to highlanders games, the crusaders were regularly crushing us, and Carter pulling out wonder kicks were commonplace :)
Dan caters kicking percentage is 98%, while Johnny Wilkinson is 95.7% and that’s crazy Both are legends 💯🔥
It will be a long time before we see his like again. In my opinion, the best no. 10 of all time.
The Greatest number 10 of all time , some would say “no it’s Johnny Wilkinson “hahahaha, if I had to choose someone to kick a goal to save my life it be Carter my hero ❤️
South African here…Carter is phenomenal but if you’re exploring DC then you best get onto the other guys in his era. That time for the AB’s were outrageous. Jerry Collins springs to mind too
Mauger, Nonu, Dagg, Howlett, Kelleher
@@randomlyfactual1943 and just really getting started. Haven’t mentioned McCaw just cause it’s the obvious one but man the late 90’s to 2015 AB’s were stacked
@@daggaboom nou net jou naam gelees 🤣
Van 2005 af. Reg deur tot 2015
He played 12 in the beginning of his career because the 10 at the time was Andrew Merthens both for the Crusaders and All Blacks. He moved to 10 when Andrew retired and went on to become arguably the greatest 10 of all time. He was a generational talent like Michael Schumacher, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.
Richie McCaw and Dan Carter were All Blacks, Canterbury and Crusaders team-mates, and good friends off the rugby field
kick and chase is a generic term that is more about a style of play than a particular type of kick.
Chip and chase refers to a short high kick that the kicker intends to recover.
Grubbers are kicks along the ground where the kicker also usually intends to recover.
Box kicks are usually performed by scrumhalves that are high hanging kicks placing the ball behind the breakdown. They are chased by players intending to either recover the ball or obliterate the poor soul standing and waiting for the ball to come down while a thundering horde closes the space.
As a south african I would even recommend to check him out....one of the goat
As a Springbok fan, watching Carter tear us limb from limb as part of the All Blacks or Crusaders was an absolute pleasure to behold.
My favourite player ever, bar none.
Carter was one of my idols growing up, even though we had fantastic 10s in South Africa. He is the GOAT
He was also hugely strong - once (at 91kg) holding up a 125kg man over the line and preventing him from scoring.
Bro you gotta check out Ma'a Nonu and Jerome Kaino from that era ABs team.
Yea mate spot on about the kick and chip n chase!
Ice in his veins, plus he really should have patented his right hand fend (hand off), it was sublime.
Best rugby player ever
Easily the best back of all time. Legend.
Not enough is spoken of his ball playing, footwork balance and power.its what set him apart from everyone else
If you want to see more goal kickers, Jonny Wilkinson (ENG), Percy Montgomery (RSA), François Steyn (RSA) are good stand outs. Tactical kicking from the Fullback might have it's own list
Frans Stein from south Africa was a deadly kicker first guy I’ve seen kick a goal past 60m
Check out Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith the best centre pairing ever
Bro Dan Cartee is the goat, Jona was great, but watching Dan play was magic, it was slow mo, he is why im a crusaders supporter... It was insane
2019 south africa scored a try for the 1st time in a final. They scored twice
ah it was 2019 not 2023 ok.
Tana Umaga would be a cool reaction 👍
