Practice on a cake dummy covered in fondant or butter cream that way you won't make any mistakes on the real cake....a thick piece of polystyrene cut out round or square or both...I save my wrapping from a electrical item I brought the measured it to 8 inch 20cm diameter. And iced it let it dry and it is easy to make different borders and scrolls etc...this is how I learned to make cakes...with me it's just a hobby now but I'm pretty good...best wishes.😊😊😊😊
