I want to see the corporate bosses who get frogs in their throats discussing how meaningful their female workers jobs are. Not saying it never happened, but it would be a rare career that would result in that while being a good wife and mother is something nearly all womn could do. As JBPeterson said, most people have jobs. They're not enough to get meaning from in the same way you would from having a family.

I know a lot of women passionate about their careers as nurses for example. Then he said girls will want to get married and have children but first he mentioned his wife who he loves, he teared up and said she wanted to be a stay at home mother. What you find wrong with some girls wanting a career and others wanting to be a stay at home mother, you seem to not think no girl wants to be a stay at home mother. Actually many do as they don't want nannies raising their children. I am not Catholic or Christian and have worked since very young while going to school and always worked but when I married and had a child, I decided to raise my child myself and no one was going to raise my child myself and when I had my second child, I was still a stay at home mother taking my kids to their little league, taking them to practices etc etc. It used to be and I see it in you that women want to look down on women who are stay at home mothers which is still real work. Some women have to work to have a second income which Butker understands but he was speaking about those that stay home to raise their kids should not be upset about women that act like they don't (do anything. ) And they have done that to a degree.

I personally know 15 young Catholic women ages under 25 who hold college degrees are now married and full time homemakers, many young Catholic are embracing this lifestyle now. Young people are embracing the beauty and flocking to the Latin Mass Parishes making a huge comeback to Traditional authentic Catholicism.
Traditional Catholicism, to me, represents the true essence of our faith. Pope Benedict XVI once said, "An authentic interpretation of the Bible must always be in harmony with the faith of the Catholic Church." This aligns with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states, "The Church's tradition faithfully reflects the teachings of Christ and His Apostles" (CCC 78). Sadly, not everyone understands or respects these traditional practices, and it's disheartening to see traditional Catholics face criticism for their beliefs. Harrison is speaking behalf on all the Catholics who embrace authentic Catholicism. He is sharing traditional Catholic values to a traditional Catholic audience of young Catholics who are embracing traditional values. I see nothing wrong with his views, his speech was him speaking to the choir. There is nothing wrong with a Catholic sharing Catholic values with a Catholic audience. This speech was for a niche school not for the entire world to hear, it just got so much publicity because he is a celebrity in the NFL world.

I watched the speech to the end. There was a standing ovation. As you mentioned, he was a Catholic man speaking to a Catholic audience regarding Catholic topics. Something else not mentioned is that when he talked about his wifes sacrifice. That is what love is. Obviously she loves him and was willing to sacrifice a career. And lets be real, its more than likely that he makes enough money to support the family and if she had wanted to venture out into the world of career woman, she could. But if she chooses to dedicate her life to her family, thats commendable.
Currently Butker is in his final year of a 5 year contract worth $20.2M including a $3.5M signing bonus.

I was at a mom and pops restaurant this evening that i go to 3 times a week. One of the servers was telling me about this tonight expecting me to be shocked and appauled. I didnt know this had happened til she told me. I looked at her and said " well he isnt wrong, the most important thing i ever done was give birth to my children" the shock on her face was priceless. I actually really like the girl but i asked her if she has done anything more important that giving birth to her child and she couldnt argue. She did try to explain why she thought it was wrong. I said well i can see that would upset femenists but im not a feminist at all. We live in a sad world when these women think that their career is more important than their family.
I am surprised she got into a discussion with a customer. Customers tend to be horribly abusive if any little thing doesn't go their way so I would never discuss politics with one. Maybe she is young and has no idea what monsters y'all are yet 😂 That being said he said "My wife's life truly began when she started her vocation as a wife and mother" this implies she had no value until he donated his seed. Her life truly began when she was born and her mom held her, not when some dude inseminated her. That was never even implied in Harrison’s speech.
So the media hates him because he gave praise to homemakers? So many feminists say they want women to have “choices”, but they take a dump on women who choose to put their family first. Why would I want to study in college and then use my wisdom for strangers in a company that doesn’t care for me, while I put my children in the care of people with little or no education and not half the investment in the children. My education is not wasted, and “women’s work” has value in itself.
Exactly! My mother always made this point. My parents were not Catholic but they lived according to the same values voiced by Harrison Butker. My mother had a liberal arts college degree and a post graduate degree in fine arts. She was a stay at home mom. She found great fulfillment in being a homemaker. She always made the point that she didn’t want to put her children in the care of a nanny who did not have the education she had. Both she and my father believed that a parent’s job is to pass along culture to the child. My parents also believed that they were helping each other to become better people by mutual support and exercising self discipline as one must do in relationship. This was part of Butker’s message. Why is it controversial?
I would also point out that my father died relatively young (I was 20 and my brother was 22). My mother did eventually use her post graduate training and work as a fine art restorer (paintings and Oriental rugs). She was very talented and was in demand because she did such a good job. She said that he work was a challenge and satisfying in that she was able to bring back a damaged piece but I know that her great fulfillment as a person was in her marriage and as a mother.

Greetings from New Zealand. Matt is so right. I was talking to a Traditional Catholic homeschooling mum this morning after Mass. Apart from praising this speech we talked about her lovely husband. They have 9 children. She commented how her husband does not really like his job but it is so well paid, which he needs to feed his children, he will put up with it as that's a true Catholic father . GOD BLESS THEM ALL

How many earthly representatives of Christ are willing to publicly declare their faithfulness to traditional Christian values the way Harrison Butker did? Did ANY of the Catholic bishops protest the lockdown of the churches and the withdrawal of the sacraments that I was taught were essential to our faith? This man has more courage than any of them. I’m waiting to hear a Catholic bishop, who has not already been cancelled, declare his support for Harrison Butker, I won’t hold my breath.

Wonder what would happen with the left if a Muslim said the same thing and even worse at a speech about family.
It would be haraam to say "My wifes life truly began when she began her vocation as a wife and mother" because it would imply he (instead of God Allah) gave her meaning. If he gave this speech at a Muslim girls school he would get shoes thrown at him because it would be inappropriate for their achievement, but also sacrilegious implying someone had value because they married him. It's likely they would have tried to get a female speaker for an all girls school too though.

The best thing I ever did in my life to date. No promotion, any amount of money… nothing can compare to the ability to pour love on to/into your children, to protect your children, to always be there for them to guide to a better path.

I went to my Granddaughter's First Communion on Mother's Day. After Mass, each First Communicant was given a long stem rose to put at the feet of the Blessed Mother statue. My daughter whispered to me (so only I could hear it), "Oh, great! They just gave the boys swords." Immediately, across the church the boys began stabbing each other with the roses while the girls held them daintily while waiting to take them to the grotto. Truth is Truth. That’s the issue! Even if he was speaking to a Catholic group and he claims to be Catholic himself his speech and rhetoric wasn’t directed towards a specific group of Catholic believers. If it was no one would bat an eye.
The reason he’s looked at sideways is because he has very limited views of women despite his mother being the opposite and despite him being the exception financially and career wise, he made himself the standard.
He truly believes it applies to ALL.
There were in fact women and other graduates who were appalled at his statements.
So the back lash he’s getting is from ALL the people who disagree with him because they don’t believe their life only begins once they become a mother or wife. It’s really that simple. Now should he get fired for it? No.
Should be careful to not impose his views of success onto the general population? Yes, yes he should.
He isn't imposing his views. The people in the audience can still do what they want. No one is forcing them to get married or have children. It's just a fact that there are things way more important in life than how you make money.
Back in the 90s when I was a teen, we really didn't have anyone sane countering the feminist nonsense. I wish that we had a Harrison back then. Unbelievable that a CATHOLIC speech given at a CATHOLIC university garnered such backlash.

I mean, I don’t think he should have said that to the ladies who just graduated. Imagine being at your graduation and basically being told that, in the graduation speaker’s opinion, you wasted the last four years, working your ass off to get a degree, and that you should follow a different path. It just seems kind of unnecessary and it seems like the opposite of what a graduation speaker should be saying to these graduates.
