Great video. I found that using my call sign "UV5R" makes people angrier than my Roger beep
my call sign is 80808. it says so right in my uv-s9x3 under "automatic number identification"
I’m so stealing that from you!
You should hear my 6 second Roger Beep......
*Rodger
Weird, my call sign is UV5R🤔
I honk my truck horn every time I shut off my truck because I love the Roger beep so much.
I do it at stop signs and red lights - my wife says it’s rude - I say it’s required
LOL... I live it! 🤣 ROGER THAT!
I transmit a pic of my ex mother-in-law at the beach. That scares everybody away.
🤣
@@nagaviper1169 OMG....Nailed it.....
I just say the words “Roger Beep” at the end of every transmission!
The voice procedure would be to say "over". That would be a bit less stupid. The joke gets old pretty quickly.
@@loctite222ms Warning. Sad ham detected.
Just saying, "Rodger Beep," at the end of each sentence is telling the broadcast world that you do not have a quality radio that honours the one hundred year old GMRS tradition of having a radio with the all important Rodger Beep. I could not afford a radio with a Rodger Beep so I just have a small kid's toy I push a button on it and it makes an imitation Rodger Beep to full the other ham radio operators into thinking I have a quality radio with a real Rodger Beep. Though I could not afford such a quality radio, at least others believe I do have a quality radio. Money spent on a radio is everything to a ham radio operator. This is why it is important to at least fake you have a Rodger Beep equipped, quality radio. Hams will not talk to you on GMRS if you do not have a Rodger Beep. However CB operators still talk to people without Rodger beeps. But they hang around the ham bands more than GMRS and MURS. By the way, although not required, it is very important to have a Rodger Beep in the MURS band or hams tend not to talk to you on the MURS band with their ham radios.
or you can say...over ...
OMFG! "When Louis Armstrong climbs down the ladder from the moon lander on the sound stage" I had a mouthful of a very delicious vodka mix drink at the time i heard those words and it took exemplary restraint to keep from spewing all over my keyboard and monitor at that moment. You sir have a deliciously subtle sense of humor that many people cannot ever grasp, such as poor, poor SREagle that you have pinned for him to endure much deserved ridicule.
As a police dispatcher, I agree with what you said about people keying up for extended periods of time and not talking. Rookie cops do it all the time until I have a little talk with them. I was an Army radio operator in a mechanized infantry brigade HQ. I was taught t keep transmissions under 5 seconds if possible and to break when you need to go longer. I still do it to this day.
“Little talk”. As young LEO, we don’t give a S what overweight dispatchers have to say to us outside of dispatching our calls. 😂
Holy poop you seem annoying to work with.
@@Boogiebagflipper And you wonder why shit head cops, such as yourself, get sent to the paperwork calls.
Can confirm. One of our deputies draws out transmissions ten times longer than they need to be. lol Like shit or get off the pot dude.
Do you guys have radio priority to knock portables off the air when you need it? Or are you just held hostage until they stop jabbering?
@@BoogiebagflipperThat's probably because you are an idiot.
Louie Armstrong ? What a wonderful world.
That is ..." a wonderful moon." Roger Beep.
@@WniGrup UV5R..."a wonderful moon"...UV5R, over and out...roDger beep
I don't comment often on CZcams. I got myself two UV-5R's and found your channel to help use them properly. I wasn't as sure about Roger beeps until I saw a couple of your videos but quickly realized how important they are. I would love to give this video 100 likes.
Halfway there
Added one for you
I love your videos. 10 minutes of sarcasm then 20 seconds of actual information at the end. You rock.
Now just because I have attained this knowledge of the Roger Beep I am going to Share it with all my South African friends and we shall beep forth until we can beep no more.
Happy Ham here who always enjoys your videos. Keep up the great work. I'm heading to the Genius Bar now to have a Roger beep added to my iPhone.
I fought to use the famous Apollo Beep on one of our local repeaters and won. I enjoy the nostalgia every time I hear it.
Randy, the production value of your videos are outstanding. I really enjoy the effort you put into each and every video. I thought I was hearing things when you first played the roger tones. I had to skip back a few times and then you had me laughing out loud once again. Keep up the great work!
Have you noticed his picture in upper left always changes?
@@TheCeeeeej He has his TV paused. Took me a few videos to figure that one out lol. He uses it as part of his thumbnail sometimes. Sometimes I watch them over or watch videos that I I have little interest in, just to be entertained.
You have made it enjoyable to learn about radios. You're down to earth and goofy, yet informative approach to talking about radios has actually kept me interested and makes me want to learn more.
The man has made me buy 3 radios, purchase a GMRS license and get banned from a FB channel in less than 3 months!😂
Bad influencer…BEEP
If you want to learn while laugh, this is the channel for you. I start to laugh even before to see the video. I love this channel, your favorite viewer 🤣
No, me. (favorite viewer)
But seriously...I crack up sometimes at the ominous intro.
While I realize that this is now an older video, I am also cognizant of the fact that Randy's videos are timeless, relevant to the ages, no matter what. For that reason, I want to throw out an idea to the GMRS manufacturers. I have Wouxun, Baofeng, and Midland, GMRS radios. One thing I have noticed that all have in common, is that the Roger Beep settings in all are "global". In other words, if the Roger Beep is on for one channel, it is on for all channels. If it is off on one channel, it is likewise off for all channels. I really wish the manufacturers (especially Wouxun given they are the best of the bunch) would configure their circuitry so that Roger Beeps could be set on a per-channel basis. In my area, there are at least a couple of open system repeaters where the owners require that you have the Roger Beep disabled when using their repeaters. Per-channel settings (as with CTCSS/DCS) would allow for Roger Beep usage on some channels while disabling it on channels where the Roger Beep might cause issues with a repeater owner. I had actually considered using the Roger Beep on certain channels as a reminder to family or friends when on those channels of certain conditions, such as a requirement to use or not use a Unit number on those channels. The global Roger Beep settings negate that potential use.
Very ...ingenious! Lack of a better word comes to mind...but your idea and reasoning is sound...hopefully more "people" will read this far and help ....I dunno what I'm say'n...😁
You will be happy to hear that I passed my Technician HAM test yesterday. Still using GMRS. :)
73s, friend.
The Roger Beep can also be helpful to let the person transmitting know they have successfully un-keyed the radio.
Went hunting once with a guy that kept his roger beep on his walking talkie the entire trip. He never once gave thought that he was scaring animals away every time 🤣
That’s the only time I shut mine off. Hunting
Best channel for Real radio reviews , and I have learned so much from you !!! Got my gmrs lic because of you man thank you !!! Please keep em coming , I’m brand new and can’t wait to see more !! Thank you !!
Nice shout out to the NASA Quindar tones (beeps) from the Apollo days. They aren’t actually Roger beeps though, they were actually intro and outro signals to turn on and off the remote earth-bound transmitters used to transmit to the capsules. This was needed because the transmitters were spread around the earth, and mission control was connected to the transmitting/receiving stations via a dedicated phone line, unlike a modern duplex system.
We all know they were really there for the editors to align the audio and video from the soundstage when producing the moon landing 'official footage'.
Color me impressed.
Former CB user and former Happy Ham here, haven't used my license in over 30 years... got the radio bug recently but they have no record of my old expired license, I may just take the exam again just to add another Happy Ham to your list.
Recently bought the TidRadio TD-H8 (2-pack) and I have to say I love this radio, got the GMRS license last month and boy oh boy do they LOVE to complain about my ROGER BEEP (spelled correctly)... keep up the good work and next time I am in your area the beer is on me.
Best video ever. You made Josh’s day
Dude, what a trouble maker you are. I like you. LOL You my friend, I could drink a beer with you.
Yes, I would love to have a beer with Randy.
I try and work the roger beep into my everyday conversations. It seems to improve my social distancing...
I dig your channel. I do ham, GMRS and CB. Your approach is refreshing and imformative.
Neil Armstrong rolled over in his grave when you called him Louie.
And he did it in his spacesuit, which is really impressive.
"Armstrong, this is Houston, what do you see?"
"I see fields of green, red roses too..."
Informative and hilarious!!!! 😆 Thanks for your work
The highlight of my day, all the dry humor and I absolute love it! Thanks for all the grms info and how to deal with sad hams.
The roger beep has always been my favorite part of transmitting a message.
That smile after "Bffs" was fantastic, it warmed my heart
You give such a heck of a chuckle keep up the great work..🙏🏼☺️
Man, loved it when you say "My radio, my choice"
It’s 1 AM in Atlanta now I am watching this video because I really enjoy your into’s
My truck horn honks whenever I activate the alarm, because it has a Roger beep and I love it.
Best You Tuber ever and you also make GMRS fun!
I am new to your channel and love your sense of humor and style, looking forward to learning and watching more of your videos!
I had to see this video (as well as your other videos) again to see what I missed. I always laugh my ass off. Someone in GMRS land told me to turn off the Roger Roger beep to my Midland MXT275 recently. I politely told them "No" and referred them to your video. Great content with loads of entertainment in every video (Maybe you should coin that phrase). I'm so happy that I am your favorite viewer. Thank you.
That was before I got here. Now, I'm his favorite viewer. Ask Randy!
No I’m sure it is me. He pointed right at me. BEEP
I personally do not use Roger beeps on my radios but I absolutely respect freedom of Roger beep choice.. my radio my choice that’s what makes America great. Great video so happy I found your channel!
ok, dude... you crack me up. awesome content, great information. and your delivery is the best. you really are a treat to watch, keep up the good work
You are the funniest and most informative CZcamsr. I am a HAM (hopefully not a sad one) but I have purchased several GMRS radios just because of your videos.
By the way, nice spending time with you up on Gold Mountain on Saturday. I was driving the broken white D2. Turns out I grenaded the transfer case and a rear axle, but she made it home to Placentia.
Great video my friend, great point and I learned something new.
Radios have a roger beep option because it's up to the radio's operator whether he or she wished to use it. But if you have screen color options, that's not a real option because the correct color is green, just like the dashboard lights in your '76 Olds. Now don't you ever forget it.
I loved the roger beep so much i bought two KG-905's cause of your vids. Double the fun!
Man your video's are always spot on.
Great video, Randy. I always enjoy your videos. Love the aqua teen hunger force in the background.
Dude your videos crack me up.. as a not-so-serious HAPPY HAM, (notice I did not feel the need to invert my own obligatory call-sign), whenever I need a good chuckle, any one of your videos will do. Not because I think you’re wrong in what you post but because I like the information and love the way in which you present it. Thanks for doing what you do and please, for sad hams everywhere, please keep up the good work. - Andy, - Atlanta.
As always very entertaining and to the Point! Roger FN Beep!
When Louis Armstrong set foot on the Apollo sound stage... I cracked up !
I've never seen your videos before and I'm not going to lie, you got me going in the first half... Glad I watched to the end.
I’m just glad that after a year I’m still your favorite viewer 😂 thanks
the deadpan humor and delivery of this channel is the best.
Love the vids and humor ! I'm very new to the HAM community and after watching some of you stuff I've picked up the habit or petting my HT when I talk about it..😆
After this video/episode, you convinced me to subscribe. Congratulations!
Your the only one that gives informative videos with a sense of humor! That sad Ham at the end 😱 🤣
I'm a happy ham and have to use the roger beep on repeaters that don't have an adequate "courtesy beep". One of the repeaters in this area is so quiet, you can't hear the beep. Soooo... Roger BEEP is needed. ;)
Excellent video thank you very much Mr. Randy
Love it! Thanks for the great content 😜
Thanks Randy stay safe man and happy trails 👣
Thank you so much sir for your time
Thank you for doing this video about the Roger Beep. One final question answered about the things in life that I never could understand. Damn Beeps
By the way, Louie Armstrong had one of the best Roger Beeps. I have to find a way to program it into my radio.
You have no idea how special it makes me feel that I am your favorite viewer and that you think of me S a BFF. I feel the same way. 😍
Thank you for all you do.
Youve always been consistent , and serious. People should realize your as real as it gets. Beep.
It is definitively one of my favorite channels! Thanks for all this sarcasm, I am done with many people on the comment section and with many youtubers. Hi from a Venezuelan follower!
Hilarious while so informative! Made my day.
Had to read the darn manual to figure out how to turn on the roGer, roGer! Now I'm beeping on down the road. Great video as always!!
I could hardly wait for the video to conclude so I could check out the comments. It was worth the wait.
Thanks for posting this. Most people don't know that the "Roger Beep" was actually the first signal successfully received across the Atlantic by Marconi, and not the letter "S" because the three dots in CW got lost in the static. Of course in those days, "Roger Beep" had to be sent as an entire phrase in Morse Code, which sure slowed things up. It would be years before saying "QSL" in voice became the annoying phrase that it truely is today, replacing "over" which went out of fashion just after the Korean War, along with men's narrow lapel suits. During the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Armstrong turned off the Roger Beep only for the landing itself, since it overloaded the Comms Channel, and that sure beat crashing on a bolder as a matter of priorities. Later, Buzz Aldrin turned the Roger Beep back on, and Houston was really annoyed by it because they knew that there was no one on the Moon named Roger, but they really weren't in a position to be the Channel Police on the Moon, though later the FCC did do a rather expensive field investigation to clear up the matter. Curiously, this FCC Field Engineer actually became the third man to walk upon the moon, and his actual first name was Roger. And yet? During this time period, a lot of men were still wearing Fedora Hats, which went out when the wide ties came in, and they got rid of the built in ashtrays both at Mission control, and right next to the automatic bowling scorers across the Nation.Times change, and the basic two tin cans and a string got replaced with the UV-5R, which was more cost effective in both the short and long run, and that OTHER Armstrong came up with the Manual Antenna Rotator. It's also interesting to know that the letter "Z" is pronounced "Zed" in Canada, and the "Roger Beep" is called by the much more proper the "Romeo Bravo" both in the UK and Canada. Just to make the History/Timeline on all of this clear... 73 DE W8LV BILL (W8LV/VE3 before the pandemic)
This is my new copy/pasta for any arguments about roger beeps looool
I don’t think your comment gets pinned if you’re actually TRYING to get it pinned. It doesn’t work like that. 🤣
@@gregorysloat4258😂😂😂🎉
You should team up with Randolfo on these vids. I can see some great material ahead
Actualllllllyyyyy, it was the native Ameriacan Sous vide tribe when smoke signaling across vast fars. This was decreed by chief Sadhaams after waiting many, many moons, for Littlesomepeople, his mother in law, to finish signaling with her very long many O' pauses and keeping her thumb on the buckskin blanket.
really enjoy your videos,
thanks
Randy.... Your videos are the best. I think I've watched most of them. Here is my roger beep story. I just recently got into GMRS and joined a local repeater club.
After getting my newly purchased KG-1000G Plus AND KG-935G Plus radios (using the "Affiliate Links Below" 😂of course), all programmed up. I did my first radio check on one of the club repeaters. I was glad to know that my transmissions was "Loud & Clear". But then I was told that I should turn off the Roger Beep when not transmitting on simplex. Well, discretion being the better part of valor, I have since done so.
Since being a new member of the repeater club, I figured better not to get off on the wrong foot by rocking proverbial "boat". Oh well... Kind of wish that each channel in the Wouxun's had the option to turn on/off the roger beep instead of only the radio-wide option. Thanks again for all of the fantastic videos and advice....
So I bought me a couple uv9g's and have taken somewhat of an interest in these programmable radios, I still don't have a real good understanding of repeaters and how to program them but I'm getting there, your videos have been very helpful. I just live down the hill in Upland and will continue to enjoy the content of your Channel. 599
Here the entire time I thought the repeater tone on a repeater was designed so that the COR on the repeater could reset so that it wouldn't time out I appreciate you enlightening me on that subject
OMG, LMAO. Loved the video,
you favorite viewer.
I love your sense of humor!
A famous Roman many years ago said... "Et tu, Roger Beep?" Sad hams were never the same again.

I love how you troll the trolls and use sarcasm. One of the reasons I love the channel, besides all great information you give out.
I just say "Beep!" when I'm done talking. Beep!
Funny you made this video, last weekend on a repeater some sad ham asked me to turn off my roDger beep... I terminated our discussion promptly. Lol. Thanks for the quality entertainment ❤️❤️❤️
Let me guess... After your discussion was terminated, the repeater has been silent (no traffic) since? :)
Kinda hard to let go of those old CB habits, huh? You got an echo mic and 10 code chart to go with your Baostank radio? I never understood why CB operators love the 10 codes so much… and those irritating echo mics and roger beeps too. Yeah, nothing like a $600 shitty sounding radio.
HaHa, jokes on you. He didnt really want you to turn off the roger beep, he was trying to run you off the repeater. It worked. He won.
😁
I've love your intros and they way youvexpksin things
Thank you for your sense of humor. I am a ham but I think I'm not a sad one because what you do is your business. LOL, enjoy your radios sir and enjoy off roading. Both are meant to be enjoyed.
I only made it thru the whole video because I couldn't stop laughing 🤣
You sir are hilarious!
The Roger beep was named after Roger Baofeng, famed telecommunications pioneer who lived and worked in the 10th century Holy Roman Empire.
i honestly like the single tone roger beep on my midland radios than the baofeng but thats just my personal preference. first thing i did when getting my radios was figure out how to program the RB, even when using DCS i keep RB on
I appreciate your pointing out the absurdity of the complainers!!!
Thank you!
Great video thanks 👍👍👍👍
Solid gold.
I'm now addicted to this channel.
ROGER BEEP
I’ve grown up using frs radios with Roger Beeps. I now use commercial radios for work without Roger Beeps. I appreciate knowing when someone has finished their transmission whether with a “Roger, roger”…or…”Over”…or…”Over & Out”.
