Very good narrative for replacing the regulator--many thanks! I just did this on my 2008 128i Convertible, and I have two observations: (1) I had trouble fitting the glass into the channel inside the door and toward the front of the car. If you first insert the glass into the visible channel ABOVE the door, then guide it into the door progressively front to back, it seems to fit much more readily (for me, anyway). (2) There is a fair amount of adjustment available for the glass when mounted on the regulator. I got a very good fit by lifting the glass up and toward the rear before tightening the thumbwheels (or whatever they are). Thanks again!
This video saved me..Had to replace mine (passenger side) when the cables got kinked/ trapped and shredded the mechanism. Window was stuck down😫. Anyway, I had it up in no time...no issues! Thanks so much!
This vid saved me a ton of money! Thank you! I have a tip however. There is a T-20 on the front of each spindle where the window attaches to the rails. It helps to loosen and tighten the oil can nut thing. If you need to do minor adjustments after like I did, its way easier to loosen that torx than reach behind the glass to to the other thing.
Nice, I remember when I tried that on the other door before this one it broke 2 T-20's. One reason I didn't reference it I guess. Call it bad memories.
Hey mate, just want to say thanks for the video. Really clear and concise. It doesn't look like a hard job but always good to have an idea before tackling it myself. Thanks!
Great video man, you've just saved me a lot of money. Thank you very much!! However sunset changing the regulator, my driver side window doesn't go up and down automatically. With my key fob. Any ideas on how to fix this??
Hello ! My glass is half a cm too low when the door is closed (the system works when I close it to raise the glass). How to adjust the glass height and tilt? The wind blows while driving. Car is e82. Thanks !
Thanks for doing this tutorial my cable snapped yesterday wanted to see if it was a job I could do myself, seen some cable replacement kits too would you recommend 3×cheeper
Glad you enjoyed the video, in terms of parts I just recommend shopping FCP Euro or ECS Tuning. I've learned with BMW parts sometimes going too cheap means you'll probably just be replacing the "cheap" one shortly after install.
hi guys I have a 128i 2010 convertible, I did change my window regulator in my passenger side, I disconnected the battery but now the automatic window drop is not working, before when I opened the door both windows dropped half inch automatically, and when I closed the doors they when up automatically, I looked some videos here in CZcams in how to fix it but I can't get the doors to work. anybody had this issue before and how did you guys fix it. thank you for your help.
The window switch "should" be able to pop out but for this car it was a little different than the older BMW's I've dealt with. As with the one I did the unit got stuck but if you're careful you shouldn't have to take the whole panel off.
My mechanic recently replaced the regulator on mine and the problem currently is that, when opening the door, the window does not retract. It makes the sound like it was doing before (the motor retracting the window and mechanism working) but the window stays where it was. If I force it a little, then it goes down to the position where it should be. Looks like it is bounding somewhere. Is this a problem with an actual, non-OEM, regulator or it might be a window that was installed incorrectly?
Not exactly sure, since there's a few variables to consider. Is the regulator OEM or aftermarket, is the window going up and down normally or does it feel like it's binding? Start there and with some trouble shooting at least you might be able to rule one out.
It sometimes take a few try's. I usually move it up by hand and seat it to see how it moves and carefully lower it by hand into the regulator. so I know I'm "close" to how it would move. Usually it takes a couple attempts and adjustments before I can get it where I like it.
There are torx screws on the front of each mount where it attaches to the glass. You can loosen those to do some fine adjustment to how the glass sits in the rails and then tighten them back once you get a good fit.
You can adjust the window height by adjusting the window position within the 2 x cogged wheels before tightening down the cogged wheels and reinstalling the door card...I didnt need to 'reset' the window position.

just done that model today ,so easy with the oil filter pliers, thanks for showing the video
Great write up, this is one of the best go-to's on the net for this job! Nice Work!
Glad you enjoyed it!

@@MrStark-xd3jg I’m in the middle of doing mine and it also snapped 2 t-20s
I snapped 3 before jumping to this video and seeing the backside option and 5 min later they are out. I used an adjustable wrench.

Nice and well explained video , thank you .
Thanks this video was very helpful
I used a LARGE pair of channel lock pliers to get those window sprockets loose and they worked!
No need for specialty tools!

How do you set the new regulator cable into the motor? How taught should it be?

Do I have to remove the covers? Or can I just remove the switch and plug in the new one . Don’t wanna crack my cover by accident
My window switch got rain on it and doesn’t function

Hi, my window doesn't stick to the seals and is tilted to the side so that it is not closed, do you have any tips how to set it in correct position?

Do you need to relearn the window position? Good video…
I didn't have any issue with this one, but with others I've had to make it go all the way down and hold it for a certain amount of time until it set.
You can adjust the window height by adjusting the window position within the 2 x cogged wheels before tightening down the cogged wheels and reinstalling the door card...I didnt need to 'reset' the window position.
Good timing as our windows start to fall down
YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED THE OIL FILTER PLIERS NORNAL PIOE PLIERS AREN’T BIG ENOUGH!!!
In the middle of doing mine and found out the hard way 😂
Thx
