    Ha! Im using the same controller. Copy paste this from a post of mine on ES , you are several posts above me.
    Absolutly impressed with the V2 with FW 5.3. Im drawing 1500W -2500W for extended periods with bursts of up to 3KW. 13s6p on a derentalized ninebot max escooter with stock motor. Field weakening is a game changer in ESC world, works to basically defeat the RPM/Voltage/BEMF limit that exsists without FW. I set mine to 50A. Difference in performance is stunning, on the stock FW prior to VESC FW5.3 I could only achive 23-maybe 25mph with fresh charge and wind to my back, with everything the same but FW5.3 with field weakening enabled I can easily reach 37-45mph... in fact, and this is gonna probably be contriversial due to the risk of sound unbelieveable Ive reached 50mph multiple times, yes mph, logged via GPS , backed by VESC tools RPM motor pole/wheel diameter (254mm) method. Ill gladly post a link to logs and my config backup. I probably would have a difficult time believing it as well figuring its a error.
    II didnt do much for cooling other than disassemble and repaste incase it was assembled the first day back to work after chinese new years, I could definatly invest some more time figuring out a way to add more thermal mass because on warm days I will reach 85c after about 10 minutes of constant aggressive use where Id say I average between 1500W-2000W. I can use a bit of throttle managment/dicipline to lower to resonable temps indefinitely but its so much fun zooming around I find it difficult to do! Lol!
    I want to build another scooter, I have a brand new white PCB v1 but Id really like to try the new version with SMD FETs /integrated heatsink.

    This is awesome. I have been wanting to do this for a while. I’m glad to see it worked out well. What settings did you use for your motor current and what not?

    • @TheAppleFtw
      @TheAppleFtw  Před 2 lety +3

      60 battery 105amps phase amps. 160 Amps max current limit
      120 amps is too much for this vesc to handle, on full charge you will have issues.
      I used 80/110 amps but occasionally cutouts on high load situations. I observed similar behaviour with a hubmotor using the same controller.
      So far 60/105 is very stable,and no cutouts.
      Autodetect values are a bit off. BBSHD motor resistance is about 48mOhm not 8mOhm
      Flux linkage 17mWb from memory instead of 19. You may need to play around with the settings a little.
      As BBSHD is an IPM motor, it can take big advantage of Field weakening.
      This feature is only available on 5.3 firmware, you must off phase filters off when using 5.3.
      Field weakening allows for more rotations per minute by lowering the magnetic field, this at the cost of more current to maintain the same torque
      Field weakening current at 60 amps. Top speed went from 30kmh to 61kmh with 1:1 gear ratio
      I tricked throttle map to make push BBSHD low current at all times, that keeps chain tension on.
      If you're pushing as I did, put a smalll heatsink of mosfet side. Stock 75100 gets hot very fast, aluminum enclosure is too thin.
      As you can see from this video, VESC stays cool now.

      Turn phase filtering off when updating firmware to 5.3, it can damage your controller
      Put heatsink on mosfet side, rumour has it the new 75100 (aluminum PCB) has better cooling
      but this old design needs an heatsink. Costs $5 from aliexpress or just scrap one from old electronics

      I have 3 75100 alu pcb variant (with the nice aluminum box)
      they actually are much better than the older variants (better heat dissipation, 380A mosfets so they are pmuch unkillable at the rated current, if you ever exceed the currents that much you'll break the traces tho, the PCB will never withstand that plus the 10AWG wires are kinda thin)

    • @TheAppleFtw
      @TheAppleFtw  Před rokem

      For example Bac855 from highvoltagekits is plug and play. EASY to setup and has better/smoother performance, dyno tested and tuned from a professional. It comes from display and ready made harness, but not very cheap. Also it has waiting lists.
      75100 is a good budget option but only recommend if you are technical. I only bought it as temporary replacement. It needs a lot of work with tuning,you make your own wiring from scratch. Overall it's great for price, but has few issues with stuttering @low rpms,if you run with constant chain tension on. Bac has this feature where it always draws small amount of power, so it keeps chain tension for smoother ride.I tried to emulate on VESC, but couldnt iron it out the stutter myself. Raw Performance is similar
      Idk about phaserunner. Not familiar too with it.

    Was it easy enough to wire up to the bbshd? Does pedal assist work and do you have a display to show information?

    • @TheAppleFtw
      @TheAppleFtw  Před rokem +1

      Yes. Bafangs have their own hall scheme. But with VESC's, hall order doesn't matter.I cut the JST ends from bafang controller and soldered to flipsky.
      Best alternative is to crimp your own.
      PAS does not work with VESC. At least not simply, it doesn't even have PAS input. If you're technical and make use of PPM port, servo tester or arduino then maybe ;)
      But with 1:1 gear ratio, PAS is kind of useless. Tried it with bac controller, was pointless.
      I use phone for display. There are nice vesc displays out there, such as DAVEGA X (i use it on other bike) but I don't need it for this build.
      You need a nrf51_vesc bluetooth module to connect with android. Worth the money, you basically have the whole vesc tool on phone app.
      The HUD from this video was fetched from phone app, I used video editing to show it on video.

    • @Bengy22
      @Bengy22 Před rokem +1

      @@TheAppleFtw Thanks for the reply! I was doing some looking around and on the ES forum people said that if you update it to v5.3 firmware you can get Field weakening and Pas to work, guessing you never tried cause you don't use it? I like to use pas level 1 on my bike when I don't / can't go fast or to let the motor cool otherwise I wouldn't either. With only 85 watts I get a good cadence with the power helping to hide the extra weight.
      I think I'm spoiled by the current bafang display though, I love all the extra info you can get from vesc's but I'm not a fan of using a phone mount and those small screens that flipsky and you mentioned don't give out much info. If I could use my 860c or a eggrider like the luna vesc I would be much happier to switch.
      Right now I'm waiting on my resisters to show up to do a shunt mod to 45a. The main reason at looking at alternatives was cause I'm concerned about heat, the 30a controller already gets hotter than the motor side. Move the heat away and in more air sounds good. Field weakening sounds awesome though would love to test it out. Luna wants $350 for their solution (and apparently doesn't like selling it to people), and I can't find anything even close to the $200 mark. People love mentioning the bac855 which as far as I'm concerned is $650+ or the phaserunner for $450 with display. I've thought about a kelly controller which I think works with the eggrider but then no foc.

    • @TheAppleFtw
      @TheAppleFtw  Před rokem +1

      Steal the 6 pin JST-XA connector from BBSHD controller.
      The connector wiring order is as follows, Red(+), black(-), the next 3 colors halls, last is temperature sensor.
      Splice the connections to flipsky connector and it will work. Hall order doesnt matter. Phase wire order doesnt matter. It's all autodetected.
      Temp sensor is a little difficult. don't connect unless you want to gamble and spend some time.
      You have to determine which one your BBSHD has. The only way is to open up your BBSHD.
      It's either potted in stator(basic NTC 1K), or PTC SMD sensor on hall PCB. Either one of those versions has resistance that wont work with VESC.
      NTC 1K can be replaced with NTC 10K or NTC 100K like I did. If yours has PTC sensor well goodluck. Replacing laquer coated SMD components is nearly impossible.

    • @TheAppleFtw
      @TheAppleFtw  Před rokem +2

      Not really impossible but way more advanced and difficult.
      positive coefficient sensors that VESC supports are
      PTC 1K @ 100C
      KTY83/122
      KTY84/130
      If your bafang has PTC it's 10K so rip.
