- In this video we'll examine Uberti's cap and ball replica of Colt's 1861 Navy revolver. I'll give you the history of the gun, and we'll see how it does at the range.

Black Powder TV he would have had to file taxes for 2018 or 2019 for that to happen. There is no way he could have claimed/hidden all those ill-gotten gains, he would have the same problem as Al Capone. Even Evil Roy is afraid of the IRS.
I have had both the 51 and 61 Navies by Pietta. The rack and pinion loading lever does make a remarkable improvement.
In 1968 Dad came home from an Ohio Gun Collector Show with a Replica Arms (Uberti) 1861 Colt. It became my job to cast roundballs for it, and to also disassemble, clean & reassemble after a trip to the range. This is the old, pre computerized manufacturing Uberti, so much of it has been hand-fitted. It is smoooth and accurate - smoother than the current production models.
I've gone on to 1860 Armies, and 1858 Remingtons, Rugers, and even an 1851 Colt Navy (with that tiny and worthless bead front sight).
The 1861 is still my alltime favorite.
I bought one of those back in the mid 1990's. It's a beautiful gun. General Custer carried two of them. I'm not a fan of Custer. Good shooting there! Pennsylvania's a great black powder state.

I just purchased an Uberti 1861 36, and was searching You Tube. 1st video up was yours shooting the your 1861. Along with the 2 1858s I bought last month, black powder really has my interest. Really enjoying your videos...keep em coming.

Don't feel bad, it's the same here. (Probably just about every where else too, except privately owned land). I haven't fired a single shot since last fall!
You may try to find a local shooting club with an annual membership. Many of the private ranges are open in Cali.

I just got a Sheriffs 1861 to enjoy during the quarantine and love it. It’s my most reliable Colt pattern revolver I own.

It is A good thing you took care of Evil Roy , I read in the New York Times April 5 he was arrested for his antics but released April 25 because of the spread of covid-19 in the jail system .

Love the 1861. My Replica Arms ‘61 was built of Uberti parts in 1970. Best shooting revolver I ever owned.
I have not had as much luck as you with the reduced main spring. I got a lot of miss fires in both my uberti and Pietta 1860 Army's. I been eye balling that 1861 Navy I may have to get one. Thanks mike good video as always..

I have 2, absolutely fantastic revolvers. They are my go to gun for shooting on my property.
I use track of the wolf nipples, so far perfect.
Uberti navy's, 51 or 61 have perfect springs in my opinion.
Any 44 Uberti Colt spring needs upgrading to a firmer spring.
My Taylor's conversions work perfectly on my pair of 61 Navy's.

I've always loved your videos. During all the Covid issues over the past year. I've spent much time at my private range. My 61 navy has seen a lot of use recently. I decided to retire my pietta 51 navy, (brass frame) it was my first cap and ball revolver.
I started off with a brass frame as well, in 1972.
@@duelist1954 since the recent inflation in price and demand of modern ammo. Those of us with an armory of black powder firearms are surely grateful!
I know that 1861 is supposed to be lighter and better, but I can see why folks preference the 1851 Model. I love the octagonal barrel design. I also like your hat. Darn that ‘Evil Roy’... whupped him well enough. And the wood is prettier in my humble opinion.
Nickel the back strap and trigger guard like I've see on many original 51s and 61 and even 1860 cartridge conversions as well as brass. It looks like silver plating. I may buy an 1861 since no one has an 1851 now and no back orders.
For a second there, I thought you were channeling Arizona Ghostriders with the Evil Roy story.

I just got my first Black Powder revolver - a Pietta 1851 Navy . Personally I like the octagonal barrel better than the round. Perhaps other people felt that way back in the 1800’s? That would account for the proportions of sales ! Thanks for this video , Be Well !

I have been meaning to pick up a 1861. Would love to add a navy caliber carbine to my collection, so I ordered the grip and backstrap for a 1873 revolving rifle from taylors and co. thinking of maybe a cherry stock.
Good to see you again! Go Squire! Good 'ol Navys! I m having a lot of fun with mine! Authentic Colt Series, two of them. Well, I fire one of them and keep the other one in new reserve. Two old Model Navys too! I fire a light elongated 122g, a medium 130g and a heavy 148g. No filler , . Only BP and a few drops of good oil on the loaded balls. Curiously this Navy weighs just as much as the New Army! With the new 'Silver Steel' why didn t that 'ol Colt trim its barrel/cylinder weight (barrel thickness)?
The New Navy not selling, Curiously, the New Model Pocket of Navy Caliber, which came out, it seems a f t e r Colt died (Colt personally designed the Creeping Lever models), was modelled after the popular Old Navy (by the folks that took over?)!! I wonder if this was due to the want of making it more appealing? You know, riding the coat tails, so to say, of the popular Navy?! Hmm?

Gotta say it...That is some pretty damned good shooting. I have the same model and recommend it highly for anyone that enjoys black powder, or shooting in general. High maintenance...yes....High enjoyment factor....hell yes.

I am a fan of the Uberti 61 Navy. It's a lot of fun at the range. I can really ring the 30 yard plate at the range with it. Uberti seems to make a good revolver.

Hi Mr. Beliveau, thanks for continuing to provide content during the epidemic. I think that the new style colts are lovely, but that the '51 has a certain panache that's hard to get past. Oh, and the octagon barrel (especially, I think, on the London model) has an allure all its own. Could you comment on the state of uberti replicas in recent years? I see that you noted fit and finish problems, how is the chamber/bore sizing (I've heard that undersized bores are common) and internal part hardness? Have they gotten any better? Thanks.
Best percussion handgun by far . I’ve got a Uberti 1851 Navy London model and if it was good enough for Wild Bill it’s good enough for me . I think your right about the wood grips . Noticed you was shooting low to avoid the neckerchief 😂

Great work as always Mike. I gotta say, I agree with Sam Colt. The 61 is just a better looking gun than the 51. That's just mine and Sam's opinion though. They're all beautiful.

Good shooting! I'm fixin' to go down to our back forty and do some shooting with the 1862 Colt Police. But I know I won't hit the targets as well as you do.
I believe that the creepin rammer Colt's are the best lookin revolvers ever....ever! However I never heard anyone say that they were easier to machine, seems counter-intuitive to me. I would have thought the straight lines of the 51 would have been cheaper to machine than the sexy curvy lines of the 61....Hmmm. Thanks for an other episode of keeping Evil Roy from running roughshod over the country side. Once again Hans Up proved a bit more difficult to contain, another job well done.

Try some low power reading glasses. I'm 73 and I find that a pair of cheap low power readers allow me to see the sights and the target.

I love wood and steel. With the exception of the A5 I do not like glossy finishes, preferring straight oil, no lacquer.

The 1861 is a beautiful handgun! Are there plans to put it on paper? Seems like you missed more in this video than usual but I still enjoyed it just like all of them.

Why was the 1851 so hugely popular and the 1861 a minor success? is there really much difference in the feel and balance to an experienced gunman? I think its a beautiful design and don't get it why it was so under appreciated.

Mike: Plenty of great info, as usual. You frequently shoot both Uberti and Pietta revolvers. Sometimes in the same video. Do you have a preference between the two brands?
Does anyone sell replacements for the gunstock screw? It annoys me when I fire it.

Very nice video. I have a Uberti 1851 Colt Navy with a brass back strap and a Uberti 1851 Colt Navy London Model with just the steel back strap. I also have a Uberti Colt 1861 Navy with a metal back strap. Did Uberti also make a Colt 1861 Navy with a brass back strap? I'm a little confused. Thanks as usual for another great cap and ball video.
I have a 1851 and I have a 1861 , And I like the 1851 better , I do not know why , But it just fills better to me .
