And if you watch the video there's people with music they wrote but never shared standing there and waiting. Disturbed hops on the ship with musical instruments to bring the sound back to the people. This was an allusion to Greek Mythology and the ferry crossing the river Styx with all the dead souls on the boat because people self destructed.. Simon and Garfunkle sang about in in the 60's and the song was about the lack of communication and the lack of love people had for one another. The song was a warning that we were all going to self destruct as the world becomes more corrupt. People are more empty now than ever and there has been a huge turn from God. Disturbed sang as if he were God himself giving us a final waring. He sang with passion and anger. These are some very powerful lyrics and this was an massively powerful performance!

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! I love this song so much, I listen to it almost all the time. I started playing it recently in the back seat of an Lyft but didn't realize my Bluetooth weren't on and when David Draiman voice came on, the Lyft driver said it gave him the chills and wanted to hear more by the end of the song he was hooked. He said, that during the song, he said the hair on his arms stood up. I told him about the band, who the singer is and told him about how Paul Simon saw their performance on Conan and that he contacted them to tell them that it was better than the original. Now, as a 61 year old male, I have to admit that I am not a fan of Disturbed's other music but this has become my most favorite song.

I worked as security at a Disturbed gig in Brisbane and was stood front of stage when he sang this live, goose bumps all over arena but the original video they did for this is truly a work of art.

Funny, Freddie Mercury was sick when he did the Live Aid concert as well. (I'm not saying he had AIDS for those who are going to just assume I mean that. He had a throat infection. His doctor recommended that he not sing in that concert.) But gave the performance of a lifetime. I wonder if pushing through illness makes them stronger/better? I read some where that the original was "a whisper of a warning" and this is a "shout". I love the apocalyptic start of the video. The warning was not heard and destruction followed. And that's what the song is about. People "talking" about abuse, bulling, hurting, needing help. "Talking" without words, but by their actions, because its not things people talk about because they are afraid or embarrassed. And people not "listening" because they don't want to believe its happening or don't want to deal with it . This is about a cry for help, a cry for change, a cry of warning and those who are listening aren't hearing what's being said.

I read some where that the original was "a whisper of a warning" and this is a "shout". I love the apocalyptic start of the video. The warning was not heard and destruction followed. And that's what the song is about. People "talking" about abuse, bulling, hurting, needing help. "Talking" without words, but by their actions, because its not things people talk about because they are afraid or embarrassed. And people not "listening" because they don't want to believe its happening or don't want to deal with it . This is about a cry for help, a cry for change, a cry of warning and those who are listening aren't hearing what's being said.

I love this version but I also love Simon and Garfunkel's original version I was young when the original came out so I loved it first but this one is probably the best cover of any song ever made!! I really can't decide on a favorite I just love them both!!!

I have literally watched 50+ reaction videos to this song, both the studio produced video here and the live performance from Conan's show. I am a big fan of Disturbed as I love hard rock and metal, but I am a general music lover who can appreciate most any genre of music.

Talk about CONTROL and POWER! I can listen to this song over and over and over because it is so emotive. Paul Simon actually commented after hearing this that this song was no longer his.
