Collage has been such a game-changer for my art practice and in my current work, I cover the entire surface with layers of (mostly) transparent tissue paper that, in layers, creates a dreamy, textured, luminous surface full of depth. On one of your videos - a commissioned piece for a couple’ s 30 anniversary?
What did they write on the tissue with?. A pencil pen!
I am taking your class? I will share with you how I begin!l
Whether it is paper, canvas, or silk scarves, I take a moment to breathe, then using a rigger and WATER, I write words of hope, kindness and joy! The water dries, but the words of good wishes are on the canvas!
Then I create, leaving the joy still on the canvas!

Hi Audrey! In answer to your question-one of them wrote with pencil, the other with a pen (if memory serves). And I love your thoughts about putting words of hope, kindness and joy on your surface before beginning. I love thinking about what is underneath the surface, and actively putting things there, even though you know they won’t be seen, really gets to the heart of the emotions present in paintings. It’s beautiful.
