Try These 3 Things to Get Different Results in Your Art Practice

- Sometimes, it's the smallest things that can move us forward.
Don't underestimate the power of these 3 small things:
1) Work on paper, and make that small paper
2) Stay in 'practice' or experimental mode
3) Do 2 small pieces side by side
Lowering the pressure on ourselves, creating a safe, low-risk environment in which we can create, and harmoniously creating in multiple is really beneficial! We don't always get that naturally--sometimes we have to create the circumstance and environment and then give it to ourselves.

I just love your work and your approach. Painting with paper is how i would describe this work, it's absoloutly gorgeous, im so very inspired. THANKYOU.🙂👍👍💚💜💙
So happy to hear it! Thanks so much for watching, Andrea!
Knowing when to stop is the universal question when creating abstracts🥴. These are fresh, happy and stress free. Thank you, once again. Looks like colored tissue type paper. So beautiful.
It is indeed colored tissue paper-most of it I make myself. And I agree with you-knowing when to stop is really challenging! You really have to learn by doing it wrong a lot, in my experience 😆
I love your style! I think you deserve more likes on videos but we get so excited for the next one we just forget. I'm trying to be sure to like and comment so you keep the great content coming!!!
Thank you so much, Jill! How sweet of you!
I love these ! Can't wait to try ....please slow down a bit more so I can catch more of what you are doing . Thank you Marabeth 😊
Glad you like them! On my CZcams videos I try to show the entire process of a painting start to finish, so unfortunately speeding it up is necessary.
Good story, the practice attitude is just what I needed. Thank you Marabeth!
Me too-I like that “practice attitude”. That’s a great way to talk about it. 😊 thanks for watching and commenting!
Beautiful, I can't wait to try..
So happy you’re trying it! And thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊
Love this! And love the end result! Thanks as always.
Thanks for watching and I so appreciate the kind words! 🥰
Thankyou. A great reminder to relax and I do love your approach of taking the pressure away
I learned the hard way-I’ve been really hard on myself in the past and now realize I could have dialed that down if I’d only known how. Now I love to try to create ‘no pressure’ zones. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I bought a large pack of card stock, i just needed it for sone reason and this is the reason. Thank you. I absolutely love your work! So talented and So beautiful!
Oh, I love that! Synchronicity at work-I’m glad you’re going to try it out. Let me know how it goes! Happy painting. 😊
This was great! Thank you very much. I LOVE the pink stripes!,
Me too, pink + stripes are irresistible to me! 😆 Glad to see I’m not alone!
Thanks for your inspiration !
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 😊
Love this thought process. Freeing and no risk, no pressure! And they are pretty! New subscriber!
I’m so glad it resonates with you! Thanks so much for watching 😊
I love everything that you said in this video! I have thrown away canvas after canvas because I expected a masterpiece so of course I was disappointed. I switched to watercolor paper and I am painting a lot more and I haven't thrown anything away! I want to try painting with collage that I haven't done in many years. Your work is awesome!
I’m so happy to hear this helped! It sounds like you are shifting the way you think in ways that allow you to move forward-I know from personal experience how much of a relief that is! And if you’re interested in collage, you may really like my new class-I walk you through it step by step. Here’s some info if you want to check it out: www.marabethquinart.com/collage-class
Such a good lesson! Thanks
So glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Great video and love your relaxed approach. Thanks for inspiring me ❤
So happy you got something from it, Dianne! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😉
Marabeth, excellent tips, excellent pieces! Can’t wait for your class! You mentioned you did those on paper, did u use a mixed media paper or a watercolor paper? My heart has been in watercolor for years but my interest lately, thanks to you and experimentation, I would like to dive into more acrylics. Keep doing what you’re doing. Oh, and glad you’re on the mend 😊
Thank you Denise! So sweet! Well, if you’re leaning toward acrylics and experimentation, this class is perfectly timed. Can’t wait to see what you think about the process! If you’re on my email list for the class, you should get an email today about the curriculum. And that is mixed media paper I’m using in the video. I love working on mixed media paper!
Im very happy to see youre videoson youtube for the firs time . Many years ago i was making big collages with paper and acryl etc and youre work reminds me on that. Only i was making làndscapes and now i saw how you make flower paintings and paint youre own collage paper what you use. Thats a very good advice to do. You expires me to pick up my collages again and work on a different way and make maybe more smaller work. The collours you use are fantastick i like it a lot ! Thank you Marebeth im fan from you now and gonna looke to all youre videos 😊 Wish you a lot of luck and looke to more videos to come...! Greetz Nell
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m impressed you did landscape collage-I’ve dabbled with it on landscapes but I’d would love to incorporate it more!
@@marabethquinart For everything is a time Marabeth. Wen i saw youre coulage i feel i must try this first on 30x30 and later 40x40 etc. In my coulages i used a lot of different papers, newspaper and carton. Only in the houses i used transparant colour paper. I looke tommorrow for a picture.
I would love to see a picture!
Your work is beautiful and very inspiring, do you use the glazing medium as a glue for the tissue paper I have been using gel medium and find sometimes it is thick thank you 🌹
Yes, I use the Golden Liquid Glazing Medium but also the regular matte medium works too! And it’s very fluid and not thick-you’ll love it. Thanks for the kind words! 😊
Ps: New Subscriber! Love your work.❤
Hi love your work … what do you glue the collage with? And do you seal the painting when it’s finished
Yes I seal with Liquitex Satin varnish and I use Golden Liquid Glazing Medium to adhere the paper.
Thank you for sharing these tips! I enjoy two pieces going together yet separate, do you make your own tissue collage papers?
I do! I have a class coming out tomorrow that teaches how I do it if you’re interested. Thanks for watching and commenting Lorie 😊
Ooh i forgot to ask, what kind of glue you use ore is it binder...??
I use (mostly) Golden Glazing Medium
@@marabethquinart Okay, thank you, i never was work whit it, i use binder. But i wil try ore this is working for me to. 👍
Question....did you originally plan to use the same colors and techniques on both papers? Did you challenge yourself to make sure each was different, or did you want then harmonious from the get go? Planning these sorts of things must be time consuming or? I am sure that these and other subjects will be covered in your beginning collage "Magic" class😉😉 So looking forward to taking this class!!
What’s so great about having them side by side is that you don’t really have to think about using the same colors and techniques-I just had to think about doing something on both of them, whether I was painting or attaching a certain color of paper. If you notice, they look different but share many qualities i.e. I might put green stripes on one, and then I put them on the other but just do it in a different place. I would experiment around and see what works for you-there’s not one right way, but there will likely be a way that feel like it ‘clicks’ for you. So excited you’ll join the class!
@@marabethquinart Thank you for responding. Just purchased your class and am already making some papers!
Oh YAY!!
I like the one on the right better.
So glad! Thanks for watching 😊
What kind of paper are you using?
Strathmore Mixed Media Paper. I love it and use it for almost all of my paper pieces.
I always watch your videos because I love them, can I use
small clothes of glass tissue?
Can you explain a bit more? I’m not familiar with glass tissue…
I’m asking you because I was wondering if it would be possible to use colored cloth instead of tissue paper, I haven’t tried it yet.
Thank you so much.
Sorry I missed your follow up-I have never used cloth but I have a student in my collage class that works with silk cloth. It’s beautiful!
