- OK Guys, as you're all aware.. the Montreal Canadiens prospect pool is absolutely CRAZY.. And in today's video, I decided to count down my TOP 5 Habs prospects heading into the 2024-2025 season! Lets take a look!

Joshua Roy AKA Wawa is not on this list for the same reasons Slafkovsky is not on this list. He’s played more than 20 NHL games and I already consider him a part of the team .

After what I saw from him last season in the OHL I can see him carving out a good spot for himself in the middle 6. Maybe on Newhook's wing.
A goon with actual sklls is quite rare. Hope he can keep improving.
Hutson is gonna be a huge steal, not even Habs fan but my goodness that kid can play. So hyped to see him next season.

Jeff Gordon was the guy responsible for drafting the Bruins core from 08-18. yall are in good hands. and the BOS / MTL rivalry appears to be back the way the Bs are building their team
AND the current Rangers core.

Hutson, as of now is who I'm most hyped for. He has been a monster at every level and he played unreal against a Detroit team that put everything on the line to get into the playoffs. I think he can gain 5 to 10 lbs of mass over the summer and be 170 to start to season. He's ready to be a game-breaker and bring the powerplay back to life. Demidov, I'll be hyped when he's ready to come over.
Not gaining 10 pounds in one summer unless you're talking about Gaining alot of it as fat
@@andrewmoulton7429can’t forget that he just stopped growing, this is the easiest time in his life to put on muscle for the first time. From late may to mid October, he probably could put in around 8-10 pounds.
Love Hutson, but it's crazy to put him in front of PopCorn! An all-around D like we haven't seen with the Habs since Markhov...!
@andrewmoulton7429 100%. 10lbs of just muscle would be an insane feat over a single summer so yeah I'm talking just mass. I think he can afford that weight on his frame and it not affect his skating.
@doofeable I'm only going by who I think can make a difference at the nhl level at this moment. Orville should be the better player in the long run and demidov will most likley be the biggest game changer. I think reinbacher can play a full season in the ahl, he has the size and skill set for that league were he can flourish, qlot like mailoux. I think lane is better suited to play in the nhl atm. Around high skill guys who will make him better and he will make them better.
This channel is the one reason I'm cheering for the Habs on side to watching my jets. I won't elaborate further.

this was a good draft for the Habs. they added 2 things that they were lacking. Some high end skill up front, and some size.
I bang-ding-ow'd, and I wi-tu-lo'd it, too!!! Excellent list and honourable mentions... Future's looking pretty bright! Habs are getting clogged at Left-D, tho... in a few years, I'd love to see Hutson-Guhle-Xhekaj as our 1-2-3 on Left-D, but right now, we also have Matheson, Harris and Struble that are left-handed and could all be regulars in the lineup, and I haven't even mentioned Savard, Barron, and Mailloux that are all right-handed (not to mention Popcorn!)...

Which leaves: pezetta, rhp, evans, armia, Anderson, gallagher, kapanen
I think Reinbacher has 1st pairing potential and then Mailloux, then Konyushkov. To be fair I’ve been following Mailloux more than Konyushkov I know he’s a great prospect.
You’re missing Hage, Mesar and Farrell. Hage, Newhook and Roy all have 2nd line potential imo and Newhook looked fantastic with Dach for those 2 games so we’ll see there’s no rush. If anything we can always make trades we have so many prospects and logjams in literally all positions

Hage is still few years away whereas beck I feel is pro ready, but I’m Excited to what hage can bring to this team

@@user-rs4xu3cd5b yeah absolutely Hage will take more time I’m just talking about what our team can look like in a few years. I think Florian Xhekaj will play in Laval this year and Konyushkov I can see taking 1-2 more years as well. Plus Demidov has that 1 year contract in Russia

Sad we lost Lekhonen for him but, to be fair, at that time Kent Hughes was looking to get a real good defence and his ceiling was actually quite awesome.
Not sure how it will pan out though but we'll see.

Fowler has been looking very good recently 👀 hard to put him in the top 5 but should certainly be top 10
Goalies take a while to develop, he definitely has a good few years before he starts making appearances

My vote for the defense to start the year is Matheson/Ghule
Hutson/Savard
Xhakej/Mallioux
These pairs maximize offense defense and toughness. Savard and Hutson being a pair is obvious as they complement each other so well and Xhakej plus Mallioux is a punishing pair that have both offense an defense and are a top tier playoff style pair. Alas im a townie, what do i know 😊
I've seen a lot of people giving up on Mesar which is sad. Yes, his first season in the OHL was somewhat underwhelming and even tho this season was not significantly better in terms of point production, his style of play has definitely matured. I'm hopeful for his strong first AHL season and if he's given a proper top6 role in Laval w some PP time I think he will shine.
I hope i love mesar and its not going to be a easy road for him but he seems like such a good guy and a smart player
I was hoping they would take Lambert at the draft, it was a little annoying that they went for the “best friend” pick, but I still hope he succeeds.
You’re right, Dobes is a player, and he’s the biggest goaltender in the system. When he was at Ohio state and Omaha, the kids got the athleticism and game to play in the NHL and he’s extremely level headed. His poor start at the beginning of the season last year was a combination of a really young team, and a goaltender just starting pro hockey. His SV% at almost 91%, after chasing a SV% of under 80% in the first 6 games and barely 82% in his first 10, he had a perfect rookie season in pro hockey. He’s going to be a lot better than everyone thinks, plus, he’s been ignored, and I’m sure he’s okay with that.
A big thing im having difficulty with and im sure im not the only one is "trust the process". Us habs fans arent exactly known to be the most paitent people around. But between jeff kent and everyone whos invovled and bought in i think there might be some light at the end of the tunnel and for once its not a freight train
I could see Mailloux being similar to Guhle but righty and maybe a bit more physical. Reinbacher probably some Weber vibes as he's really steady defensively

Florian xhekaj is a absolute stud, and I will say that until he scores 40-50 points in the nhl.
I’ve watched this dude in person, online, and filled a full scouting report on him, and there is definitely potential to be even a point per game player. The Habs better develop him right, or this is a major whiff.

This is very close junkie but I would tweet it a bit. I couldn't agree more, Matherson is prime beef and with a draft pick could land us Necas . I think the surprise at camp will be Forian Xherkaj. I would move big brother up on the wing and Beck at centre. i am begging Marty to do this and I think this line will get us in the playoff. Teams will no be running our little stars , knowing this line will be coming for them. This way we can keep Struble who I like very much.
In no particular order, Mailloux, Reinbacher, Hage, Demidov and Fowler.....then there's Beck and Kapanen. This Thorpe guy, 6'5" RW can score, heavy shooter, shoots in motion, needs work in areas that are workable, great project prospect. Imagine this guy on the back 6 with Xhekaj-lite, oufff. Well shite, add those guys to Slaf, Suzie, Goalfield, Dach, Newfhook, Roy and there's 12 forwards. Then ya never know, there's still Koivu, Engstrom, Sawyer, Volokhin... 2 first round and 2 second round picks next year, add some salt, pepper, a pinch of oregano, a few jalapeno's and the Habs might have themselves a team that can make the finals again in a few years but I'll probably be dead by then so I won't get to see it.

Looking at Hughes, Gorton, Bobrov work for the last three years and thinking, what took the organization so long to get rid of Trevor Timmins?
Reinbacher’s season was no way near abysmal. Half a ppg as a 19 year old on one of the worst teams in the NLA is something.
My personal top 5 is
Joshua Roy
Florian Xhekaj
Logan Malioux
Lane Hudson
Ivan Demidov
Josh Roy is slept on
Roy is already an NHLer imo and no longer a prospect
Nice selection, my thoughts on them;
Roy has technically graduated (even though he was injured and missed 30 games) Yeah he's going to surprise many on the 2nd line with Dach this year.
Florian is looking to be a look for the bottom 6 in only a couple seasons, I hope he has an excellent year in Laval, maybe even gets a call up.
Mailloux could make the team out of camp, probably has to wait until the trade deadline for Savards spot. Guhle and Barron being the other 2 RD.
Hutson will most likely make the team and play with Savard on the 3rd pair. Harris stock is quickly dropping. Xhekaj and Matheson being the other 2 LD.
Demidov may arrive in 2025-26 and join Roy and Dach to complete an excellent top 6!
I like that list better also. Dont think reinbacher has a spot on it.

Good call on Reinbacher. Looking at that pick in hindsight, it was a good pick. If Levshunov can go #2, it shows how valuable RD with top-pairing potential are. I think he'll be better than Levshunov. Levshunov is a clusterfuck defensively. And Kloten was a clusterfuck period, so can't put that on him. Great vid as usual Junkie.
IMO Fowler is 5th best propect rather than Mailloux, especially how he played last year and also because we're loaded on defense. I agree with you on every other one.
Mailloux will have played 2-4 seasons before Fowler arrives in Montreal.
Joshua Roy is flying under the radar
Demidov, slafkovsky, reinbacher, hutson, Fowler. That will be the players with the most impact in the future in my opinion

My feelings might be wrong, depending how Reinbacher fare in his training camp he might just make the team since he's a big right handed defensemen. I can see Mailloux aswell... it depends on MTL org on how they wanna manage rookies contract and might want to get the maximum years out of these.
Lane Hutson pick comes from the plekanec trade to Toronto, we got rinat valiev who we flipped for kulak which got us the Hutson pick

He's great but he will become a 3rd-4th liner, nowhere near top 5 prospect for the habs.
1 Demidov, 2 Hutson, 3 Mailloux, 4 Hage, and 5 Fowler. I am still waiting for that pick up this year! I really hope they didnt decide to not pick up a goal scorer now because they got Demidov. I can see them saying why pay for someone to come here for a year or two, then when Demidov gets here, he will take that spot, so why bother taking ice time away from someone who needs it on the team? Which makes sense, but i can't handle another year of finishing in the bottom 5, i know we get a pick for it, but i want to start winning, i dont mean make the playoffs, we're in a crazy tough division. i just want to not know we aren't making the playoffs before preseason, which is where we will be, if we dont add someone who can put the puck in the net. Bottom of the league again, this team has suffered enough, and so have it's fans.
I really want necas or laine. I have a strong feeling laine will find a nice new home on the habs powerplay

The road needs to be cleared, I am of the opinion that we will see older D moved as we get later in the year, so Mailloux and Reinbacher are in Laval for most of the year, and if they make the playoffs, they’ll be back there for that. Hutson is going to be back and forth with the main team. Barron, Savard and Matheson could be on the list to move this year.

their prospect pool is insane and they already have the core locked up long term on good deals. on top of that they have no real albatross contracts that will interfere with the window.
I believe so if one of the goalie prospects becomes a stud. One thing Montreal seems to always find are goalies. The Habs have some of the best goalies to ever play in the NHL the list is incredible when you look at the tenders wearing the red white and blue jerseys throughout their history.
Matheson or Guhle? plus Harris have to go......Hutson Xhekaj and who else on the left side? with Struble as extra guy?
I think Hutson should spend the season in Laval. As a player frim university it will be a real challenge to play a full 82 game season in the NHL. He might really start to get worn out and regress by mid-season because of the heavy grind.

He's cool but come on he's not going to become anything more than a bottom 6 player. I don't know how you could put him on the list over guys like Mailloux, Fowler, Hage or Mesar
