This might sound like a funny question but I need to know .
I want to cut and disable audio in one of my cables but I'm not sure which wire carries audio or how to find out?
I need this because my equipment is defaulting to HDMI audio and I want it to ignore that and use optical instead for my current set up. So the only way I can figure doing that is to stop audio passing through the cable and tricking the system.

How are you to check continuity if the cable is in a wall? No way to bring both ends that close together. This is all based on perfect scenario. Who cares about fixing a cable like that? Cheaper to buy a new one. We need to know how to fix cables behind walls. It should be noted to everyone that if the wrong wires are put into terminal it will damage the tv or dvd player

To check continuity we recommend running a temporary cable such as bell wire or even speaker wire so you can test the ends. You are correct, if it's a location you can easily pull a new cable, we recommend that. This is for those situations where it's not possible and this is a last resort. EG: We had a client where we ran a 30 ft HDMI cable to a fireplace TV by chipping out the grout, running the wire, and then re-grouting. It took 8 hours to run the line. The client pulled the TV off the wall (articulating mount) and broke the end. We were able to repair this in 1.5 hours versus 8.

Looks like a viable solution but I want to know how you are supposed to make this look decent? It's ugly. Are there any wall plates suitable for this? What other options are there to make this aesthetically pleasing?

We normally recommend this goes behind a TV or, once tested, that it's wrapped in electrical tape and then dropped behind the wall so it's not seen.
