  • This video showcases the Hanger 9 60cc X Cub. This ARF (almost ready to fly) rc aircraft has been modified from its original kit, we made a new motor mount so that we could move the CG farther forward without adding weight, see our CG Video • SETTING CG ON YOUR RC ... . We also installed oversize 11.6-inch diameter tires, this lead to beefing up the landing gear. We made the forward vertical rod solid and welded it in. At the end of the video you can see us towing a glider, this aircraft will tow a 25lb sailplane. Our plane uses a 7700-watt motor running 12S, also using an Aerostar 150 HV ESC. We can fly for 12 minutes at minimum speed or get 2 tows to 700 feet. This plane has a 23x10 Carbon Fiber prop from ZY Hobby. The CG should be set all the way forward at minimum, the plane has a bad tip stall if placed farther toward the rear. Our testing determined that the plane lands best with 15 degrees of flaps, even with smaller tires, the landing speed is slower with smaller tires due to less weight. The big tires add about 5 pounds but they look awesome!. At RCTWINS we try to share all we can to make the hobby better. See our site at www.rctwins.com

      CY makes some fiberglass 1/3 scale floats. The secret to lining it up is the CG of the float must match the CG of the plane, any plane.

      I put floats on the apprentice. We ended up putting a water proof servo in each float. Also you must water proof the fuselage so water can't splash in the front or it will flood the servo area. Next I installed flaps which made it easier to land and more stable at slow speeds. Of course it lead to a larger motor so I could take off from the grass or snow!

      CY? Do you have a link? Balsa USA also has float kits. I think plenty of folks would like to do this.

      And Hello again from Holland Michigan USA! Thanks for your great comments! I and I'm sure many others are very saddened that the owner of PR Bushweels has passed on ending the supply of the 11.6 diameter Ballon wheels, I spoke with him on the phone and he was a fine man in Alaska! There are some sets of them floating around however, you can find them on rcgroups or one of the other forums out there, they go for around $600 US, Ihave an extra set but I'm hanging onto them hor now:) you can get my contact info from www.rctwins.com Rich

      RCTWINS thank you kind sir. Yes i was aware of the sad passing of the creator of PR wheels. I thought you mist have had another brand. In any case they look great. Maybe one day someone will fill the void of that the artist from Alaska left when he left our world. May he rest in peace. Thank you for replying and pls keep making those vids.

      You may want to consider AIRTOP tires from Espritmodel.com 8" x 3-1/8" wide inflatable with ball bearings.

    Can you help point me to where you got the landing gear, wheels, and axles and such?

    • @rctwins7913
      @rctwins7913  Před 3 lety +1

      The a frame gear is from Horizon and we did beef that up because it was just too weak, the tires and axels are from PR Bushwheels but that company is now closed, the tires do get sold on places like rcgroups.com and typically sell for around $650 per set, the come with the springs and axles, the tires on this plane are 11.6 diameter but they also came in 8.5 inch, the 8.5 inch actually fly better than the larger tires. @@rctwins7913 Thank you, I saw your gear articulates and didnt think the horizon sprung gear did. I was hoping you would say a different manufacturer for the wheels and tires, Thank you for the quick reply!
