  • PLEASE READ ALL.......The 2010 MLB All Star game is being held in Anaheim this year and Major League Baseball puts on an event called "Fanfest" for the public. The event costs between $25-$30 a person for admission and one of the PERKS in the advertisements is that you get the opportunity to meet some Hall Of Fame players with all autographs being FREE with your paid admission. For the most part the players were great about signing and posing for photos (Gaylord Perry, Juan Marichal, etc.) Until it came time for Gary Carter. People lined up about an hour or two before he got there just to hear after he arrived that he WOULD NOT SIGN ANYTHING FOR FANS except a white piece of paper! He did however sign for SOME FANS IF THEY DONATED MONEY TO HIS CHARITY!!!! A lot of people left after waiting in line out of anger because they were selling his memorabilia (8x10 photos, baseball cards, baseballs,etc.) that people thought he would sign...especially since every other player there was doing so. The people working the event apologized and said that it wasn't supposed to be this way and they were unaware that he was going to do something like this. A few people ALLEGEDLY over heard his agent expressing dissatisfaction that there was no profit being made...he must have meant BESIDES WHAT THE MLB ALREADY PAYS these players to show up and do this in the first place. Well I waited in line (over 2 hours) anyways with my son and little brother who had already purchased 8x10 pictures in hopes of getting his autograph. The video shows what happened next. If you watch you'll see that GARY NEVER EVEN LOOKS AT THE KIDS BUT RATHER JUST GOES ON AND ON ABOUT HIS MEDIOCRE CAREER IGNORING THEIR OUTSTRETCHED ARMS WITH HIS PICTURE. AT ONE POINT....AFTER HE REALIZES HE MAY NOT WANT THE VIDEO ON CZcams HE DECIDES TO ACTUALLY SIGN THE PICTURE WHICH HE FOLLOWS UP BY ANGRILY SAYING, "NOW YOU'RE GETTING YOUR WAY!" I can only assume that by this he meant getting his autograph? Maybe I'm wrong....but that was the point of him being hired to appear wasn't it? Ironically, Gary hands out some sort of HOME MADE BASEBALL CARDS with this writing on the back....."The Baseball Hall of Fame is something every player dreams about, but being a member of God's Hall of Fame is the greatest achievement of all. God offers each of us the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. When we accept God's gift of salvation, our name is written in The Book of Life, guaranteeing us a place in heaven forever." "I made that decision during spring training in 1973, and prayed asking Jesus to come into my heart as Lord and Savior. It was then that I first realized that when Jesus died on the cross, he died for me and paid for my sins. Accepting his payment was all I needed to do. I couldn't earn my way into heaven. You can become a member of God's Hall of Fame too, by making the same decision today." IM SORRY GARY, BUT I THINK YOUR ACTIONS TODAY TOWARDS 2 LITTLE CHILDREN AND THE REST OF YOUR FANS WAS THE LEAST CHRISTIAN THING YOU COULD HAVE DONE. I don't recall Jesus being in it for the MONEY! You are a SAD representative of Major League Baseball and should be ashamed of yourself. It's no wonder why the NBA is becoming so popular.

    Those kids must have loved Gary Carter when he played. They must have been, what, -14 years old? Come on bro.

    So at what point did you explain to your kids who Gary Carter was? I'm sure they were real devastated when they didn't get their Gary Carter signed picture.

    I don't think any less of Gary Carter after seeing this. Its sad he has to put up with this crap. A FREE autograph signing gives you no rights. Its what ever the player chooses to sign for what ever reason.

    You bought a couple of photos, handled them to your kids, and then baited Gary Carter into some cheesy exchange so you could express some anger over......what? He asked for a donation to charity? He didn't sign something you could sell later? Your self-righteousness is readily apparent.

    I was at a New York Islanders game a year ago and Gary was there for the Islanders Business Club. I was allowed in the event and Gary signed tons of autographs, including 8 for me, but he would sign a baseball with the inscription "LI DUCKS". He signed my cards fine except he signed half of them on the back half of them covering his face. the one thing he did sign perfectly was a 1986 World Series baseball, but it already had 4 autographs on it. i was in total shock he didint ask for $

    i hope someone shot a video of Rickey Henderson as well. Gary signed anything except a baseball card (contract with foundation) a day or two ago. But Rickey, what a joke, First, SP baseballs (thats fine) but 5-10min later NO BASEBALLS, ONLY PHOTOS. 5 min later, NO PHOTOS, CARDS, HATS, ETC. ONLY SIGNS YOUR FANFEST TICKET, ON THE BACK NOT TO MENTION AND A FREAKN PIECE OF PAPER (THE ONES GARY SIGNS).

    THE PROBLEM I FIND WITH THESE AUTOGRAPH SHOWS IS THAT IT IS A BUSINESS. I WAS A FAN OF GARY CARTERS. I WAS AT A BASEBALL AUTOGRAPH SHOW IN BROOKLYN NY IN THE LATE 80S, AND DAVE WINFIELD WAS SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS IN THE SCHOOL. WHEN HE WAS ASKED FOR AN AUTOGRAPH OUTSIDE THE BUILDING HE OBLIGED, BUT SAID "I CAN'T " AFTER MORE PEOPLE WANTED AUTOGRAPHS. THERE ARE LEGAL REASONS OR AGENTS WHO INSTRUCT THE BALLPLAYERS WHAT TO DO ETC. IF THE RULES AT THIS EVENT WERE THAT ALL PAYING ATTENDEES ARE ALLOWED

    why cant he sign the cards?

  • @msw600
    @msw600 Před 14 lety +2

    THIS IS STRICTLY A LEGAL ISSUE. WERE THERE LEGAL DISCLAIMERS THAT PROHIBIT CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS LIKE CHILDREN FROM GETTING AUTOGRAPHS? WAS IT TOLD THAT PHOTO AUTOGRAPHS CANNOT BE SIGNATURED? WAS THERE ANYTHING IN WRITING HANDED TO THE PAID GUESTS STATING ANY RULES REGARDING WHAT CAN AND CANNOT BE ALLOWED AT THIS EVENT? WERE THERE SIGNS STATING WHAT IS ALLOWED OR NOT ALLOWED AT THIS EVENT? WE HAVE TO KNOW THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS FIRST.

    Due, autograph collecting has been aroud forever, and people kids and adults do it because it is fun, It was something me and my father did together to grow closer and I intend to pass it on to my children. Nobody is right here, your both wrong...theres no reason for you to be mad at someone who is spending thiere time signing but Gary needs to understand some people have preferences of what to get signed....The best thing would be is if he just personalized the item unless he got a donation....

    If you were a true fan, any autograph would suit you fine. I'd take a free Gary Carter signed cut, if you have one you'd like to send over.
    The kids spent $3 on a photo? Yeah it's too bad, but they should be grateful for any autograph.

    You people complaining about Carter don't get it. He was signing autographs on paper for 3 days. What more do you want from the guy?
    What he was NOT doing was signing photographs and this has become more common since people are claiming the photos are for their kids and they wind up for sale on Ebay or sports memorabilia sites.

    Ha yes, 8 years old fan of Gary Carter...
    Wait, I was 8 years old when Gary was playing... and I'm 35 now... WTF ?
    Something is odd. The kids have no idea who Gary is, I mean, really... You said it yourself, Gary had a "mediocre career" so what's the point ? Why were you so pushy about it ?

  • @Biswalt
    @Biswalt Před 14 lety +3

    1) Give me a break, the Kids are NOT fans of Gary Carter, to be 18 or under you've got to be born after 1992. Gary last played in 1992. So there's no way the kids actually saw him play.
    2) He was signing things. Just not memorabilia, but you wanted the memorabilia, which is a dead sign that you wanted something with resale value.
    3) People do profit off selling sports memorabilia the item you reference for example sells @ $7.95 most baseball cards have a resale value of 2¢ that's up 397x

    I'm a big fan of Gary Carter but in my opinion, I agree with msw600, it would make things easire if there were policies posted on the web & during the events. If anyone wanted to make donations to the Gary Carter Foundation, they can always go to that website. The way that Carter was confronted might not have been the best way to approach him, but honestly if I were a former major league ball player that helped win a world series champtionship & was inducted into the hall of fame I'd sign away.

    What’s your problem? You're lucky you didn’t get physically removed, which would've set a fine example for your kids…how many times do you have to be asked to stop recording? You may not appreciate their autograph policy, as is your right, but it’s really stupid to keep baiting and confronting a security guard that way…they could have called the cops on you, which would've set a further fine example for your kids, and it does nothing to get a policy changed…

    Growing up, I was a huge Gary Carter fan...but then I grew up and realized most of our childhood heroes are complete assholes. The vid doesn't shock me. And for people saying he was baited, so what. He shouldnt have acted like that in the first place, baited or not. That is like blaming the prostitutes for Tiger Wood's infidelities. Just because you have the opportunity to be an asshole doesn't mean you have to be an asshole.

    One other point. It would seem that these days the sport figures we admire so much are just a bunch of PAB's ( punk a-- bitc--- ) In my home town, the Chicago Black Hawks won the Stanley Cup. 3 players came to this sports bar signing shirts, pics, whatever. Cost $50.00 to enter the bar. The owner charged this amount because he needed to recoup the monies he was paying each player for showing up...$10,000. ea for 2 hrs work. WORK? Are you F----- kidding me. Last win was 1961. lucky to have fans.

    I've gotta say, these kids probably don't know who the hell Gary Carter is.. He was before his time. This guy is an autograph hawk looking to profit. Gary should have signed something messy. Isn't it just enough to meet Gary Carter and have a chat? Sheesh.. and who cares anyway?

    i agree with you dude. its a free signing and he's signing pieces of paper, all these players, even fckn minor leaguers wont sign cuz they think their card is gonna sell for a million bucks. do your research gary. its also stupid he's just signing paper, just like rickey henderson, we dont want no crap piece of paper! we want you on something that shows you!!! i heard he does that for everyone, even where he coaches, you have to bring a check for 25 bucks, youre not worth it gary!!!

    IF CAREER WAS MEDIOCRE WHY WOULD YOU WANT HIS AUTOGRAPH? IF GARY WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST THE RULES THAT MLB APPLIES FOR THIS EVENT, THEN THE APPROPRIATE PEOPLE WHO GOVERN THIS EVENT SHOULD BE CONTACTED. I SAW ON EBAY SOMEONE WANTING TO SELL THAT SAME PHOTO WITH AUTOGRAPH, ONE FOR 99.99 AND ANOTHER FOR 19.00. PLAYERS PROBABLY FEAR THE PUBLIC COULD PROFIT OFF HIM, EVEN IF YOU YOURSELF ARE HONEST. THERE SHOULD BE RULES FOR THE PLAYERS AND FANS AT THESE EVENTS CLEARLY STATING WHATS ACCEPTABLE.

    This is typical Carter. Last season when he managed the Long Island Ducks a guy paid 75 dollars for him to sign 3 baseballs with the money going to his "foundation". The man asked for a for a receipt because after all it was for charity. Carter basically told the guy to go to hell.

  • @sigsandstuff
    @sigsandstuff Před 14 lety +2

    @joooooe88 When I saw that line for him (about 2 hours long) and Fred Lynn and he was only signing a paper or ticket stub I laughed and quickly got out of the line. MLB really failed this year. They were really uptight with autographs this year. I waited outside Fanfest and the stadium and there wasn't a lot of people around and I still got stiffed time and time again! Larry King and Steffi Graf signed for me though. LOL

  • @sigsandstuff
    @sigsandstuff Před 14 lety +3

    WOW!!!!!! Why does this not surprise me though? I went on Monday and it was a crock. The only autograph I got was Andre Ethier and sucks for the people behind me who waited over an hour and were not warned they may not make it. I tried to get a baseball signed by Ethier and they told me no baseballs. I pull out an index card, nope! They forced me to take a cheesy 5X7 photo with a Time Warner Logo on it! Why in Sam's Hill does everyone pay 25-30 dollars to enter this event and then given SH*T!
