  • Things that are simply different in Paraguay compare to Canada. We left Canada to start over in the country our parents moved us to Canada from. It has been quite the journey this far and it continues to be.

    Greetings!
    First and foremost -- thank you very much for your videos!
    I recall reading (on Twitter, before it became closed) few months ago a comment of a certain gentleman by name Jacob Wiebe. He mentioned that he grew up in Paraguay, lived in Canada for 17 years and then decided to call it quits and return back to Paraguay.
    I do not know why the algorithm suggested one of your videos. Needless to say, I immediately understood what this channel is about before watching a single video!
    For a reason, unknown to me, I have a somewhat idealistic view of Paraguay as country that has some respect for immigrants. If you do not know already, you might want to check the story of General Ivan Belyaev (Juan Belaieff). But I digress...
    I am glad that you managed to find an escape route! Myself, I feel stuck in Canada. In my case, it is not a sense of a immediate material privation, it is hopelessness. It is not that things are bad at the moment, it is the general trend, no improvement in sight. To give you an example, I wasn't paying much attention to things outside my immediate surroundings, but after looking into cost of living in big cities (where all jobs in Canada are concentrated), I was simply blown away by prices.
    I still cannot process emotionally that my saving have lost ca. 20% of their purchasing power over past few years.

    • @Frieda_Wiebe
      @Frieda_Wiebe  Před 10 měsíci +2

      First thank you for watching! Second, that Jacob Wiebe is my husband, he didn't have a good experience growing up here in poverty so he wasn't open to it for years but came to the realization he hadn't really experienced Paraguay as a country but from a colony perspective.
      For a lot of jobs I can see how you would have not seen too much of what goes on across the country price wise. From our line of work, it was easier to see.
      Its our goal to give the viewers the reality of moving to a developing country. Too many people that go on a expat journey do so with very rosy view of their destination and then when they get there, its not at all what they imagined. But, with the right mindset, not impossible.

    • @leibaleibovich5806
      @leibaleibovich5806 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@Frieda_Wiebe Thank you very much for replying!!
      I recall that in early 2020 I tried to warn people here in Canada about consequences of government "relief measures" and overall economic policies. Nobody wanted to listen to me then. Now, in 2023 that is, people are complaining to me how expensive everything is, even fast food. Well, I tried to warn you people!
      Myself, I live a somewhat isolated life, keeping thing to the minimum. However, recently I had certain problems at me employer. Obviously, first thing I started to look how to write resume, cover letter, interview tips -- this of this nature. Then I looked at the cost of living in major Canadian cities, big ticket items -- rent, transportation, utilities. It is fairly clear that if one must make 6 figures in order to have more or less decent life and not be "paycheck to paycheck". I understood that there is no point in changing jobs. Than I realized that I cannot even move within a city I am living. If I moved out and moved in, I probably would not be able to afford my current apartment.
      Then the transportation. At some point I will need a vehicle, but I keep postponing the moment and get around without a car for as long as I can.
      On one hand, I see the trends, I see where everything is going and it is terrifying! I do not see any changes for better coming. Sure, the system will keep limping, but...
      On the other hand, I feel completely stuck and paralyzed! I feel that I need to do something -- I do not know how much time we have here in Canada to come up with a plan B, before the system falls apart.
      I am feeling completely paralyzed, both mentally and physically. I hope I can find some inspiration in your video, for I desperately need it!

    I'm from italian Tyrol. I am interested in a future there. Here in old Europe we are getting year by year in a really bad situation. I would live in a place far from all this stressful way of life. I speak spanish, german and english (and italian obviously). What do you suggest to migrate there? How much money does a family need to survive there? Are communities of european that could accept new members to live off grinds there? Thanks a lot and greetings from italian Tyrol 🙏🏼

    • @Frieda_Wiebe
      @Frieda_Wiebe  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Hi, Tyrol. That seems to be the case for a lot of countries and eventually not worth putting up with. There is a lot to consider when choosing a place to go and really depends on the person. If you can adapt to some of the ways things are different here, do you have a steady income regardless of where you live are a few things to consider when choosing Paraguay. I always suggest to visit before choosing to move here, ideally several weeks at least.
      I have video with the breakdown of our monthly living costs. Ideally, for a family of five in our case, a monthly income of $1,500-$2,000 USD would be ideal. There is one more ‘off-grid’ type of community that is pretty self-sustainable. If I find the name of it I’ll comment that yet but don’t know it right now. It’s located south east of Asunción.

    • @walsch80
      @walsch80 Před 4 měsíci

      @Frieda_Wiebe that's the big point. I speak spanish too but my wife maybe couldn't adapt. I am really different from others. Unfortunately we can't have that amount of money. I could have a base of around 40.000 euros, but I know that's not enough to have a quiet life there. Nationality is a big problem without a job. We have a small child too. It's too important for me to give a base for him. Unfortunately, in Italy, just the last years, we had 30% of real inflation. My salary is never enough and in my opinion sooner or later entire Europe will be not just in poverty but in war too (too muslims around and that's a big problem for the proletarian like me (just a salary is not enough to complete the month). Thanks for your answer. Suerte, yo soy obligado.

      @@Yugamxoit seems that you think it’s no problem that every government worker out here is corrupt. All you gotta do is do better. That’s ludicrous at its core. What she described there with the highway patrol is just a surface level example. But the corruption goes far deeper than that.
      The corruption creates a two tier culture. One, there is the few who have the money, and two are the rest. The one’s with money simply skirt around the bureaucracy, while the bureaucrats gate keep the rest of the less fortunate population out of opportunities.
      Paraguay has made huge strides in developing in the last few decades, not because of the governments, but in spite of them.
