How to Fade out Blue Hair Dye and Other Semipermanent Colors| OffbeatLook

In this video I show you how I faded out my blue hair dye (which is very stubborn!) and got it to a much lighter color by using different methods. I've tried a color stripper on blue hair before and it didn't work at all while it works on other colors like reds, so fading out different colors has to be done differently. Any questions, leave em down below!

Anyone here during quarantine trying to get dye out of your hair
Yep lol very tempting to just use bleach lol
yes 😭😭
never using l’oréal colorista again
👋🏻👋🏻
yes mam
Small reminder that vitamin c WILL dry out your hair a lot, and if you leave it on for too long (a few hours or overnight) you'll most likely have a mild chemical burn on your scalp and ears, especially if you have sensitive skin. Even if you put Vaseline on your hairline first, it'll still burn your scalp, so be careful & stay safe ♥♥♥
thank you for this
Genuine Q: how does vitamin C leave chemical burns ? If it’s just a vitamin?
@@bekahbrookemusic vitamin c is very acidic.
omg thank you for commenting this
I had a bad chemical burn on the back of my head from it tho I didn’t leave it In for long
LITERALLY WHY WAS BLUE MY *FIRST* CHOICE?!?
RECONSIDER YOUR LIFE CHOICES!! but I'm sure it looked great 💕
same bro, i dyed it 5/6 months ago and it was blue for like 3 weeks but now there's still some weird green tone in it and i hate it but it's not coming outtt
Valentine Geuten omg what brand did u use was it La Rich’e Directions??
@@alecia--leoni4076 I used directions turquoise and it faded quickly but it just leaves a green tinge 😭

the best way. and less drying. is squeezing the juice of lemons into a bowl of conditioner. leave on for 30 minutes or 1 hour. to dry hair.. it took out my blue/grey hair.. and now I have Platinum / silver hair. :)
How much lemons and how much conditioner? This might be helpful 🤔
+Sofi dicehola I used almost a whole bottle of small conditioner. and 3 lemons as well. but I also had to do my extensions this was just enough. I might do this again and make a video on it
+Brittany Me pleeasee make a video 😍 ty
so we use this with the vitamin C or just without
Brittany Me ahh tysm I needed this 😂😂
My mom walked in my room while she was crushing the pellets and asked me why I was watching her do cocaine.
I hope you told her it's because cocaine is fun

That's so funny!! My grandson came home and stood in my doorway while I was busily hammering a sealed paper envelope with 20 vitamin C's in it. He thought I was crazy just hammering away on a piece of paper. I already had some mixture on my head.. He thought at first I was dying my hair again. I said NO, I am following "Internet advice" to get my gray back... haha My gray hair was awesome. I should never have went dull lifeless brown. It just that this hair dye box was in my kitchen window staring at me for the last couple weeks and I broke down and dyed my hair and regretted it instantly.
Anna this made my day. :)))
Haha
You are a LIFESAVER! I want to get rid of my blue so I can go pink, and am going shopping tomorrow with all these things on my list! Thank you, you gained a new subscriber :D
sophdoesnails wait holy shit??
Did it work?
alright ik this is from 3 years ago but best way to completely have no blue or whatever is just to dye your entire head black and bleach it again, this type of stuff takes to long tbh
Did it workkkkkkk
ME TOO! Right now!!! Lol dyed my hair blue yesterday and I HATE IT! 😭💔
I have been a licensed professional cosmetologist for 6 years and girll.. you have floored Me! Such an intelligent little girl you are. I would have never thought to use vitamin c. Your hair is beautiful. Remember to do a protien treatment on it once in a while to rebuild the keratin lost in the Bleach washes. It looks great!! Proud to be a #NewSubbie
Maria Lolita i’m a new subbie too and i need to get the blue out of my hair, it’s starting to fade and my natural color is a medium to dark brown with random lighter brown strands.. blue is SO stubborn and i was happy to see this comment from a licensed cosmetologist, it only gives me more confidence in using this method exactly! i knew the vitamin C pill method worked but not this well! her hair is beautiful, and she knows how to take care of it very clearly. so thank you, chick 🙃 if you have any other tips to get the blue out of my naturally brown hair, please let me know! i would appreciate it :)
sarcasticlilbitch 666 im going through the same but with pink I can’t get it to unred it’s self :/ I have used also a mix of baking soda conditioner and olive oil it works alright
Keep in mind that vitamin C is also going to dry out your hair .

@@OffbeatLook how did you make the paste look thick? Mine is not turning out this way😪
I used this method to lighten a salon “lowlight” on my platinum blonde hair that went auburn! I was going to use the color oops but decided to try this instead and I’m glad I did. It worked really well. Now it is a golden brown with blonde highlights. I couldn’t be happier. Big thanks for sharing xx

I've been dying my hair for a really long time and have had every other color under the sun, and my favourite gradual fade is to use dandruff shampoo two weeks before you want to redye, dish soap (make sure you use a good condition bc dish soap will take out any natural moister from your hair if not treated properly afterwards), the night before use this method and usually that's all (even with blue dyes I've had no issues) but there has been one or two cases were I did a bleach bath the day before to get a white base for pastel color)
I know this mind sound so weird but for some reason I've watched this video like 10 times over the past like 3 months (?) I just love the way you talk and you do stuff and for some reason this is the video that I enjoy the most and find more helpful (even though I've only just recently actually did these things)
idek I swear I'm normal lol
+aitanasdiary if she goes missing we all know who it is!!!
shhh hahahaha
oh wow, idk if that's good or bad hahah I knew what that was before but I never thought it was the case
+aitanasdiary Literally me lol I was just thinking that everytime I watch this video
Right?? hahaha
I’ve had hair that is a colour I now call “drunk” because it used to be blue, then teal, then green, now...It’s some unholy combination of green and bleached hair
Girl you touched the bleach with no gloves!!! That was 40 vol!! I would die forever if I did that at work!
"do all of this so it's less damaging"
Then she pulls out a 40V. Omg!!! Noooooo! 😱
She has thick hair she needs 40 volume
Victor Elliott not true at all, me and this girl have the same hair texture and i use 30 volume
That blue ombre looks wicked good on you!
I love how confident she is with her hair colors 😂 she rocks every single style/color ❤️🌈
I did a mistake and used what I thought was a gray blue and was actually dark blue. I read all I could and found this video the most helpful NOTE I had only had the blue for 2 days and one washing. I used the vitamin C (a ton, probably 3 times what you used and I have shoulder length hair) and also head and shoulders type shampoo ie dandruff WITH condition (called 2 in one). Result is my hair is a light blonde even over gray (kind of weird) after just one application and waiting about an hour. Also I used HOT water for wash (ie the opposite of what they tell you for newly colored hair). Again thanks. I agree with others you are very good on videos and have a really good presentation.
I'm going to try this to gade out my green hair. (I want blonde hair so I dan dye it a different color)
Yess good luck!
The Vitamin C treatment for my hair is GENIUS. Several weeks ago, I dyed my afro with Manic Panic Regular Shocking Blue and Amplified Atomic Turquoise. The blue was beautiful and I have a video of it on my channel, but I have spent WEEKS trying to get it out for my "Vampire Haze" color (Vampire Red & Purple Haze). This method prevented me from bleaching my kinky hair again and did it without my hair being dry since I used the SM African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo to mix with the crushed pills! I have a video of me doing the treatment for the first time, but on that I didn't leave it in for 40 minutes, so I did it wrong and might make another video the next time. But this is awesome and anyone who colors his/her hair should have a bottle of these on hand!
I'm so glad this worked for you! The best part is not having to bleach through the colour which is essential for curly hair!
SO HELPFUL! It took two months and three rounds of bleaching to fade my blue out last year, but of course I went back to it at the beginning of this summer. I'm gonna stick with it for a while, but this'll make the in-between process when I switch to another color much easier. Thanks so much for posting this!
I laughed SO HARD when you changed into your dye shirt
+Shimi Miro Haha glad you liked that part!
omg i have ion color brilliance blue in my hair, and i cannot get it out. it is like a green/teal now and i tried vitamin c treatment, didnt dramatically change it but i saw alot of color running in shower. should i do it again? i dont want to bleach cuz i dont want my roots to bleach, and my hair cannot take another bleaching lol
+TheLivvieLove You can do the vitamin C treatment as many times as you'd like (If your hair is damaged I recommend doing a coconut oil treatment for a night where you just take coconut oil, lather it throughout your hair, use a shower cap to keep it all contained, and sleep on that or wear it for a few hours)
I have the same problem! I'm gonna do this and sleep on it two nights in a row and see how that goes. If I doesn't work then I'm gonna do the bleach bath. But this shit won't come out of my hair!!!! I'm doing right now it's it's changed slightly and I've had it in for an hour so we'll see.
+Sydney Anderson when i do vitamin c treatments i can see color running, but it never looks any different when my hair dries. ugh this is ridiculous
Sydney Anderson hey, have you done the treatments and/or bleach bath? how did it turn out? I have been shampooing twice when i shower now, still have no color change. please let me kno how yours is!!
+TheLivvieLove buy olaplex on amazon and use it with your bleach it restores the things in your hair and makes it healthy once again it will definitly help remove your blue situation... just note if you use 30 with bleach olaplex makes it a 20 and so forth
youre like the first youtuber that i can watch and understand everything from man you deserve so many more subscirbers and i think ive found my new favourite youtuber!! xx
That comment just made my heart melt :') Thank you so much!! I do my best to make my videos easy to follow and I' so glad you like them!
Red is hard as hell to get our of your hair too
Red is actually the easiest.
Sidious no it's one of the hardest colors to remove
I dyed my hair red like almost a year ago and when my black fades out, there is still a tint of red underneath. I've also bleached the red like 3 times and still, its not out lol
GodOfStupidness you should use red out. its an additive to your bleach you can get at sallys. it worked for me. when i had burgundy hair i used it to get rid of that and do blue. now im tryna get rid of the blue and do silver lol.
I'm not allowed to dye my hair, but I used this temporary wash out red mousse and it took weeks to fully get out of my hair when it was supposed to wash out right away. /:
Okay Queen. This worked way too well!!!! You saved me from over processing and your video was so charming. My new favourite channel!!! Thanks so much for posting 💗
UPDATE: do NOT do this if you have an already sensitive scalp or broken skin on your scalp or any scalp issues because it will BURN from the vitamin C acid and scrubbing, this does work ok but it will burn your scalp if you have issues. since i had to do this again i recommend putting a protective barrier of deep conditioner and cold plain yogurt . i put the conditioner/yogurt mixture to soothe my scalp and to also protect from burning
THANKS!!! My Fro is the same color as your starting point and I've been thinking about going purple for the fall/winter.
Oh purple would look so good! I hope you can fade out your blue without having to do the bleach bath, but it's probably inevitable. Good luck though! :)
You could also put pink over your blue to make purple. It stays longer.
I never would have thought about that, that's very clever!
vitamin c still didn't work for me! but i found out another way not using vitamin c or bleach! i made a video on my channel explaining, but it was so conditioning too! :)
Just watched your video. I've seen people post online about fading their color as much as they can and then doing a quick light wash of the opposite colour just like you did, but I've always been hesitant about putting more dye in my hair to get rid of old dye. glad it worked for you though!
my hair isn't even blue, i just love this video. not too sure why, but your creativity is adorable. your personality, wow. just wow.
thank you for being you..
Haha I appreciate you so much. Thanks so much for stopping by and making my day :)
You could also put baking soda into your shampoo. It is a natural 'bleach' that is ok for your hair. It isn't as damaging as hair bleach and works pretty well
I just did this and it worked so well I dont have a trace of blue!!! On bleached hair nonetheless. I used ALOT of crushed vitamin c though. And the 2 in 1 green apple dandruff that my husband uses. Only had to leave it in for 10 minutes. Amazing!!
okay so I've spent the last few hours trying this and the blue in my hair just isn't fading much at all?? i want to dye my hair silver and idk what to dooo
Try using a larger concentration of vitamin c powder, that might help
OffbeatLook i tried increasing the concentration of vitamin c the other day so i had loads of vitamin c in the mixture but it still didn't really work :( it comes out in some places better than others, like there are just weird patches where its gone a bit yellow... it looks a bit rubbish and i really don't want to bleach it bc the dyed section is already kinda damaged from bleach/dye/heat so :(
TheMidnightSeason you should give your hair a break for a bit. Condition it well for at least a day before treating it again. Use anti-dandruff conditioner. It will cure your hair a bit while slightly helping out fade it. Use anti-dandruff shampoo for your vit C treatment. It increases the effect.
TheMidnightSeason Try bleaching it a couple times but having breaks with lots of conditioner, as the other person said.
TheMidnightSeason bleach wash
Wow beautiful, you've inspired me to dye my hair. Im a boy, and kinda nervous tho.
That's great! You're gunna look so awesome!
I really appreciate having an alternative to straight bleach, and soap caps. Thank you!
Actually red is the number one hardest color to remover.(Im a hair stylist, first thing they teach you) also I went from blue to purple to blue and I did a 5 min Bleach wash to go to purple so i wouldn't have a blue/green tone and it comes right out.
On me she look like nicki on 0:20

thank you so much for the video your very helpful a tip i have is for people who do not have vitamin c powder or capsules is to mix baking soda, head n shoulders and fresh orange juice from an orange and i find it works very well
*if you dont have an orange a lemon or lime works too

ZombieGirl833 Did it dry out your hair at all? I really want to get rid of my blue but only because i miss my soft healthy hair. I’d hate to ruin it further. Lemme know:)
LIFESAVER ! After this treatment my hair went from green/mint color to a pretty green-banana-almost-blonde. A few more times and maybe I would get my blonde back
THE TRANSITION AT 0:42 IS SO GOOD
Imagine my great joy at finding this clutch ass tutorial BY a black girl, WITH my hair type!
Haha that's one reason why I started, I just couldn't find any tutorials from girls with my hair type! And I usually don't have much trouble with that, but on the ends that I have bleached countless times, I have run into that problem. I started using coconut oil in my hair before bleaching and I think that helps with preserving curl pattern!
Thank you, I think this was the most helpful video I found for this process because you don't skip showing the results of ONLY the vitamin c treatment. I'm cobalt blue and been considering getting back to more natural tones via fading and then henna.
Thank you! I’m coloring my hair to purple during the pandemic and with no ETA on when I need to get back to work, this could end up saving my life.
camreynolds I dyed mine blue during this quarantine and I loved it but once it faded I hated it. I’m currently doing the vitamin c thing rn and I can update if you want.
Crush vitamin C (or use powered vitamin C), then add shampoo (preferably head and shoulders, or dish soap) till goopy, then add to hair, add water (not to much), then scrub hair really really good, let sit 30-45 minutes, rinse and repeat
FIXED GREY- PURPLE HAIR DISASTER
my naturally dark blond hair has been over processed with highlights etc. PROFESSIONAL dyed my hair with low lights and high lights and TOP layer all turned GREY. toner made it more grey? They wanted to STRIP my hair to correct and i said NO WAY.
Found this, tried it, did mixture on 1 hour, dried w/dryer, rinsed with straight lemon juice and prayed. Believe it or not..... it fixed it!
I'm still in shock it actually worked.
If you have GREY/purple hair this actually works. And it actually made it look NATURAL because it was very subtle. Amazing.
This mixture also works on ... if your hair color came out DARKER than you wanted it to be ... try it!
+Texas Bosshoss I'm so glad that worked for you!! :)
I know I’m 3 years late but...The random possibility of having to smash an intruders face in. 🤣🤣🤣 had to comment.
Me too! 😂 Sounds like me, only mine is a giant Chinese machete
Thank you so much! I have kept my teal/blue hair for about 9 months by choice but I recently wanted to change to purple. My hair was already close to a mint green from using baking soda and dawn. It got nearly all of the darker greenish roots out of my hair when I used this. I will update when I'm able to do another treatment to remove the rest
So I decided to chop my hair off and try to achieve a turquoise color and it turned green! Found this video and you saved my life! I just ran to rite aid to buy errthing and it really worked! Ugh thank you so much🤗😁

Just a tip: Maybe don't wait until the last minute to fade the hair. Personally, I have been fading my Black for 2 months now just to keep my curls happy-healthy and so I won't get frustrated when I dye it green (Green Day concert in August🤘😆🤘). But this will only work if you don't mind the kind of odd fade out you get. Right now the Black is Blue from the undertones. Just a tip😋
Baking soda and Hydrogen Peroxide completely removed the red dye from my hair. I sat under a hood dryer with the mix in for half an hour and then rinsed it out, and my hair was bleeding red hair dye. Totally recommend it.
I've also used the same mix to bleach my hair blonde. Two treatments and my natural colour is jet black.
I thought she was gonna use a mortar & pestle but she whipped out a sledgehammer 💀💀
Lmao i finally got a pill crusher after all these years 😭
You're a nicki minaj look alike lol
So many people say this! That's why I did the Nicki transformation video :P
OffbeatLook is this better for your hair than bleaching it
ieisha merrell Yes, this is a lot better for your hair than bleaching it and is much less damaging
I love the personality and humor in this, and the methods are actually helping me strip accidental midnight blue out of my hair!
Best tutorial I have seen for this technique. You actually removed the color! Plus you have gorgeous, long, textured hair.
I don't know how you get so much dye out using this method, I always end up with a pretty bad green tint.
Josephine Tversted same😫 it just won't fade...
Lindaindustrial I know! No matter how long I wait, i ALWAYS have that green/blue tint. And it's especially annoying right now, because I really want to tryout grey/silver hair
Lindaindustrial try*
Josephine Tversted yeah I literally just rinsed another vitamin c treatment out of my hair, it's like a green ish & baby blue ish color now... I'm gonna do that a few more times and go to a hair dresser after that since I have ombré and I don't think I can do bleach baths on my own 🙄 I hope it'll work out
Btw I'm trying to go silver as well:D
Josephine Tversted hey girls you should try adding in this mixture some aspirin and baking soda. Your hair will be a little dry, but after this 'treatment', use a deep hydrating conditioner:)

That make me so happy, you don't even know. It's fantastic that you're now finding what you yourself like and not changing for anyone else. You go, girl!!
I've been doing this for literally years and it works amazingly ! blue hair or otherwise
+Rhiannon Olivia Yess I agree! Ever since I started doing it I felt like God himself had given me the key to life like it's so helpful haha
I use the vitamin C method too, still working at it, and instead of just vitamin C and shampoo, I add a hell of a lot of baking soda and dish soap to help it all along. I learned my lesson and I'm never going to use permanent hair dye in my favorite crazy colors again. Not worth it. The aftermath is devestating, hard to deal with, expensive, and very very time consuming. But he vitamin C method works really well.
I have tried this two times and it doesn’t come out like hers 😭😂
I said I'd never put blue back in my hair after it being hell to remove but once again I have blue in my hair 😔 it's the hardest colour I've ever had to remove its ridiculous
Right!! I always say that but always come full circle. But it looks good on you!!
@@OffbeatLook I know right. I'll have black hair next week after spending ages to get my hair light haha. Thank you, you literally suit everything colour 💕
I remember watching you when I was like 12 years old and I keep coming back (I’m 17 now)
Omg! After 3 days of trying to get the teal blue out of my hair (going for grey) and using everything humanly possible including bathroom tub cleaner! This was the only thing that worked. Thank you so much for posting. Now how to get it grey? Lol. 😘
This was a really informative video! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Your profile pic tho... Phandom for life!
You are too CUUUUTE! Great video! I did this with the vitamin C powder "Emergency C", Head and Shoulders shampoo, and "blue" Dawn soap (a video showed this) The FIRST treatment worked well but after that IT DID NOTHING.... I find that odd because yours worked SO WELL! I have "Splat~ Crimson Obsession" in right now but would love rainbow! I'm just worried with the color bleeding what I'll come out with. I noticed also that your hair holds color VERY well! If I even sweat my neck turns pink! Any advice for me? Thanks, love♡ XOXO
Awh thanks! :) I've tried the same thing as you and that happened to me too! After the first wash it doesn't do much at all. The vitamin C one always helps though! The reason your color bleeds isn't because you did anything wrong, but because red is the color that always bleeds all over the place, and some pinks are made from whatever they put in red dyes so those tend to bleed too. I've used the magenta from Ion Color Brilliance, and even though that brand's red bleeds like crazy, the magenta doesn't, so if you need a pink that doesn't, you could try that one!
OffbeatLook Thank you SO MUCH for your reply! I appreciate all your advice! ♡XOXO

Sometimes I don't even pay attention to the video, your voice is so soothing to listen to I just !!! 💕 I love you 😭💕
+lavender mango Hahaha that's so funny. Love you too
I'm using another way at the moment that seems to work well. After putting this mix on my hair five times the dark dark blue that I had in my hair almost faded completely. The mixture is lemon/lime juice (preferably lemon), dish soap, and baking soda.
Oh I've tried that! I didn't have much luck but I'm so glad it worked for you!
Jenna used your video!!!
"but thankfully, no one has ever broken in to my house."
Saving this video for when I want to change my hair
Yess I can’t wait 🙌🏽
This video was really helpful thank you!! i watched about 5 other videos on this subject and they just left me more confused but you did a good job of explaining the things you were doing and why. Keep up the good work!
I dyed my hair black and we tried using this method but it didn't work at all- And we left it on for 2 hours, So we used bleach. And even 40 volume bleach wouldn't get it past a light brownish color on the first try for 30 minutes, so we bleached it a few days after with 20 volume and it worked, But my hair is super damaged- I can't straighten it, Curl it, Wash it with hot water, Blow dry it, Or wear it up now. And now I have to go through my last few days at school looking so stupid with ugly purple/brown hair. And the color is fading super fast now, I can barely brush it unless it's been 24 hours after washing it... I am not dying my hair a different color for a long time!!! The struggle is so real!!!
that's what you get for bleaching hair multiple times! have you not read ANY warnings???

Girl you are always my go to! I consider myself a self taught artist who loves hair. ANYWAY you're my fav and I trust your videos and they are super cute. Thank you so much xx
I did my hair at a salon today. Totally not exactly what I wanted and ended up with a bright deep blue/purple tone. Already shampooed like 3 times and I can already tell it’s gonna be a nightmare to get rid of the color because of how saturated it is ~ gonna try this sometime next week ;;;; thank you ♥️
Came here from Jenna's video today
Wow, the blonde looked so cute :D
Thanks! :D

OffbeatLook haha no probs. :D yw.
Why am I just finding your channel!!! I'm actually sitting with my second round of vitamin c concoction in my hair right now, going from the beautiful mermaid teal ombré I did months ago, so I can attempt that lovely galaxy hair tutorial you did! Will definitely be keeping your channel on my radar for future hair color fun! Thank you thank you for all the great tips and tricks!
I’m so thankful I came across this!!! This video was so enjoyable to watch and helpful!!! I’m now getting ready to go yellow!!
oh shit who's here from jenna?
Jenna!!!
i am sitting here with vitamin C mixture on my hair. I was gray and dyed it light brown and not I miss my gray hair. I hope this works.. I don't mind doing it several times. Your blond hair is gorgeous by the way.. Love it!!
I'd recommend doing the vitamin c treatments and then applying Color oops for about an hour, it's smell rank but it works really well for removing hair color. I wouldn't bleach your hair after using this, but I'd follow the rinsing instructions well because it's important
She looks like nicki minaj

Haha ha and she did a nick I minaj transformation too
+Joanna Avila yes

You got some editing skills, girl! You’re also so adorable
I did this two years ago on red/dark brown/black hair. It took all the crap out of my hair and left me with a soft copper hair color. It works. And now I'm gonna try to get copper out of my hair.
Yesss good luck!!
