    Very nice, finally someone made a simple and informative video for it with better camera angles! Good job sir

    When ppl talk about jack stands they normally mean 2. Putting it on 4 stands is hugely more dangerous, so whilst your procedure might be safe, keeping the car elevated on all 4 corners like this for any length of time is iffy at best but some people choose to do it. Would have been nice to have shown more clearly the jacking points which is why I watched this.

    Nice manual. But I want to ask something: to jack up the back, isn’t it possible to start from the back first in the middle and then put the jacks equally left and right? Because that’s the way you jacked up the front. And at the back you started left-middle-right.
    (Not sure if I explained it well)

      Hi! You can use differential as a jack point, but rememeber diff is an expensive part and you can damage it using as a vehicle support...that’s because i decided this video’s way. It’s slower than diff’s way but it’s best for my pocket! Thanks for commenting 👍🏻

      What is the jacking point under the engine, what is that ?

    Hey i have a question for somebody that might knows. I wanted to lift the car up under the drivers doors, and i wanted to lift it up with bmw original highjack. I pushed it all the way up and placed cuople of wooden cubes under the engine on the spot for the highjack but when i lowered the car enough so i can pull the jack out the wheels were on the ground again. My question :is it possible I bent the oilpan or something?

    Appreciate this video! Is there any reason not to jack from the rear diff with a block of wood to protect the metal? That would allow only 2 jack positions and be done in 1/3 the time?

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  Před 2 lety

      Yes, probably you’re right and tbh I do sometimes the quick way. But at the long term, the diff is not going to be happy…Thanks for your input!

    Why not just jack the rear of the car using the differential as the jacking point and did you place the jack on the oil pan?

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  Před 5 lety +2

      You are way wrong man... First of all, I don't use the rear differential as a jack point, because diff is NOT a jack point and you can damage It using as a vehicle support, and believe me that is an expensive part... And second, I didn't use the oil pan as a jack point, because that would be DANGEROUS! I used a specific BMW jack point located underneath the engine (subframe), instead. Stay safe! Any other questions, please let me know 😉

      @@TheultimateDIYmachine The diff can be used as a jack point. You just have to make sure you're on a flat part and use wood or a piece of rubber for padding. I'm glad you didn't jack it on the oil pan. The video didn't show the exact point very well, and don't be so defensive ;)
      Plus, not all e39s have a specific BMW jack point under the engine. The subframe can be used on e39s without the specific point.

      @@derrickg5612 Ok Derrick, no offense, It's your car...I'm sorry if I sounded defensive I didn't mean It. FYI I only snug jack under diff as a security measure, just in case something goes wrong while working under car. You are right, the video doesn't show clearly the jack point under subframe because the protective plastic shield under engine. Thank you very much for your comments, I really appreciate It!

      @@TheultimateDIYmachine I jack up my M5 just like you do from the subframe mount in the back. The chassis is pretty ridged so it all goes up in one shot much like jacking from the diff would do. I do not see why anyone would jack this car up from the pumkin. It puts a tone of stress on the bushings and causes premature failure on them which can lead to other things like the front mount breaking away from the subframe etc.. I do agree its a little more finicky to get an e39 on Jack stands than say an e36, but once you realize that the subframe mounts are perfectly fine to use its pretty straightforward from there.... nice video, could have used it a year ago when I got my M

      There is not that much space like on standard E39. I used wooden ramps, worked a treat. Now I have Mpack Touring and will be needing to get it jacked soon and those ramps are never gonna fit...

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  Před 4 lety

      All right, you can use standard BMW shitty jack to lift the car from a front side jackpad in the first place. That little extra height will allow you to position the hydraulic jack under centre jack pad located under the engine, so you can lift the front end of the car this way. The rear end is the same that showed in the video.

  • @ShamBlaq
    @ShamBlaq Před 4 lety

    Can i do the same things starting with the rear end to put jack stands under the front? I only need to jack up the front of the car to access the splash shield. Thanks again!

    • @TheultimateDIYmachine
      @TheultimateDIYmachine  Před 4 lety +1

      The answer is no. That is not the way to do that. If you only need put stands under the front of the car, then you only may lift the car (front end only) using the center support (plastic pad) located underneath the suframe, below the engine. Make sure you don't use the oil pan as a jack point! Be safe man

    Garbage video, I say that because it's the same as every other uninformative BMW jacking view out there as to how to get it up on the front end. You say the plastic pad??? Just like every other video, but didn't have the wherewithal to show it.

      Well you're being a bit abrasive but yeah. On 6 cl e39s there is that little pad, on a 540, if you tried that you would probably be lifting on the oilpan. Not good. There is a steel bubble behind it that is the actual jack point
