They are great fun but you have to have pretty deep pockets..

I think the E39 was the best BMW 5 series. The design is timeless and looks strong and quality.
Well in my coutry the nicknames it has translstes to plum for front lamps but for other peoole its pig because for some its ugly
E34 is better in my opinion...
E60 is my favorite 5 series
E39 and e60 most beautifull bmw 5s
E39 and G30 my favourite

I remember that i started working on my dad's car, an e39, trying to make it look like yours, i was 17, really loved doing work related to cars. And i ended up at 19, to take a bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering in Romania. This week i graduated. Now i am going for a Master Degree in Automotive engineering in The Netherlands, and everythig began with your video :)

Sometimes the build is the most fun part. I currently have a stage 2 audi A6 and Stage 2 A3 and I'm thinking about selling one and getting an e39. Just doesn't seem as fun when I'm not working towards the next mod.
@@Kajacot do it, i just picked up a 2002 530i with sport package for 2500$ canadian dollars. So much fun to drive. I had a b5 a4 stage 2+ and a b7 a4 wagon stage 2 in the past, this is a different machine compared to the audis.

Just wanted something new, pretty much. I've had 6 E39s including this one that I had already had for a year, so I wanted a change. And I wanted a bigger engine with six cylinders.
Get an E60 535D! I own one, it's a BLAST!
I flew out to LA last year and picked up a 2002 530i in this same slate green metallic color. It's really grown on me and I'm working on my project now. Picked it up for a cool 1400 and shipped it back to the Midwest. Looks better then the cars out here that have seen 2-3 winters already
Sold my 540 last year .. And last mth pick me up a 530

@@goku7785 only issue for my engine 540i was to do the timing chain guide replacement.

Me to dudee even the wooden shift knob, i thought he was putting it in but then I saw the horrid grey in there :/ even steering wheel with the wood was great, he replaced that too

He was always speeding Drifting and no blinkers
He was reported to the cops many times for bad driving like a maniac
And also followed people
I didn't see him for a while
Turns out he was arrested for driving like a maniac and no license

Damn, that was a lot of work. Reminds me of my car. I did basically everything you did and more. But every time I do something new, I fall and appreciate the car even more. And for a old car. It can still keep up with some of the newer ones. Newer is not always better. But great work and it looks really nice.
Yeah, true. I've driven several new cars and the E39 is still the one I look forward to driving again. I would've kept this for longer if it had a straight six.

This is so cool, I have a 2003 e39 530i with m sport package, and this just makes me love e39s even more. I put a afe stage 1 CAI and a magna flow 14851 muffler and it was able to up my hp from 228 to 271

Mine is black. 2001 530i with the Sport package. Car rides so nice and smooth. No shaking and wobbling on the interstate either. Car has original paint that still shines nicely after detailed

I buy my cars to use them as they were meant to be used :) So didn't worry too much. Washed it 2-3 times a week to keep salt and rust away so wasn't too much of a problem.

Spent about 140k NOK. Sold it for 70 + and E46 in trade. The parts varies a lot. Some used, some from stores here in Norway, some from eBay etc.
The parts??? Srsly? There is trillions of e39. Aroun europe which are alive and in perfect shape... Thats nit a problem.

Thanks man! The engine worked well actually. No problems and alright amount of power for everyday use. They are easily tuned to 170hp/380nm as well.

Well E39 520d have 136hp stock, so remaped have 165-170hp ...
But still sounds like a inline 4 diesel, work culture like a inline 4 diesel and still slower than stock m57d30. However as i said, this one is pretty cool, ascpecially looks good
170bhp is still shockingly slow in a heavy old car

To start with I paid 45.000 NOK for the car and then spent about 95.000 NOK on it.

That's a lot of time and money spent on it. For the money he could of gotten an M5 and called it a day!
An M5 is at least twice what I spent on mine here in Norway.
In US they are $15-20k. Parts and labor of what you did easily cost $10k here.

Great video! Miss my 1999 Silver E39 with sport package/BBS wheels/5spd. Best car BMW ever build. Simple yet sophisticated enough. In US I had all the options on that car, including silver trim(instead plastic that looks like wood). One day I will get one again.

Wow, you had a lot of enthusiasm and energy.. I just bought one two weeks ago and I already have a second thought..it is a such a pleasure to drive, but man it is full of sensors that go kaput easily..
Haha, yeah it could be a little daunting for someone without experience, but they are amazing cars, both to own, drive and work on, imo. But the ABS sensors are always a hassle 😂
@@gabzh yes, I'm battling ABS module right now, I was quoted just over $3000 to replace it..after three weeks, since I bought it, I developed a phobia of driving it, scared something is gonna go kaput..but yes, you are right, it is such a pleasure to drive..lol..

Forget the E46. I love them but they are extremely unreliable when compared to the E39. Just get an E39, and save money on the long run, plus you will get the same driving experience as an E46, with better interior.

@@vladanberisavljevic3326 I would probably go for the 530i. That M54 engine is probably the most reliable engine BMW has ever built, and you get the best of both worlds, good power and good fuel economy. The V8s reliability is a bit of a mistery, arent that much more powerful, have much worse fuel economy, and are heavier. Also it will be pretty hard to find a manual V8, so I would get the 3l straight six. The only exception is the V8 in the M5, where fuel economy doesn't matter, has tons of power and torque, and reliability is insanely good for a V8 with that much power. Those engines are built like tanks.
Only missing thing was the M5 mirrors on this masterpiece. Still, It will always be my dream build.

I spent a total of about 140.000 NOK on this one, and sold it for 70.000 NOK plus another BMW E46 as a trade. So I sold it for about 100.000 NOK :)

Most of the parts used are purchased from local dealers or second hand from private parties, so wouldn't be much help to you.. The cup holder is readily available on ebay :)
