Greetings from Chicago! My 3 sons gifted this gem of a guitar for my 60th birthday. Couldn’t be happier with the playability and quality of sound. Think you nailed the pros - which definitely outweigh the cons (who gives a crap if someone in the audience thinks the guitar is rubbish). I will be giving my Taylor a break in 2023 as I get to know my new baby. Thank you for spreading the gospel of the fabulous Fender #affordasonic Well done! 😎🎸

I just picked up one of these on reverb for $500 in a sale - and I'm incredibly happy with the price point, and am excited to play it. I'd been shopping for acoustic/electrics for a while and at $500 I don't think it can be beaten. I'm stoked, it'll be perfect to help teach my girlfriend how to play (she's been asking for a month or so).

Just purchased this exact guitar 2 weeks ago. Been playing for 45 years, mostly acoustic and I can honestly say this is my all time favorite. I haven't picked up my dreadnaught since I open this one up. This is perfect for playing in full mix. Mine came in excellent condition. No sharp frets. Just had the next adjusted for lower action. These sound best plugged straight into a PA System as they already have modeling built in. If you plug into an amp you will be disappointed. I plug mine straight into a LR Baggs Para DI and into the FOH. Sounds great!

Howdy🖐🏼😃; I picked up one of these about a month ago as a last minute replacement for my 2013 Martin HD28 (it was starting to rain and tho it was an indoor gig, I didn't really want to get it out in the moisture...) Took my new Telecoustic and my little Fishman Loudbox Mini to the gig; no time to test it out at the store (walked into the store, saw it on the wall, bought it and walked out), so I was depending on Fender's rep as a quality instrument. Long story short, it played and sounded like a million bucks at the gig, got compliments from the pickers in the room, and that was even before I realized that I'd bought an MIM 'Player'. Don't know what could be functionally different between it and a US model, so I consider it a pretty economical purchase (not to mention that it paid for itself at the gig!) I'll give it a thumbs-up👍

  • @FrankLeePlaying
    @FrankLeePlaying Před rokem +3

Great review! I agree with most of what you said. I've had my "affordasonic" for almost three weeks now and I really like it! ...but I have a warning: it eats batteries like there's no tomorrow. I suggest never leaving the battery in it when it's not being played through an amp/PA. I thought, like my other guitars which use 9-volt batteries, that all I needed to do is unplug the cord and the battery wouldn't drain, but it seems like it sucks the life out of the battery even when it's unplugged.

    • @livemusicseychelles6485

    • @FrankLeePlaying
      @FrankLeePlaying Před rokem

@@livemusicseychelles6485 I stream gigs that last one hour and gigs that last three hours. If I take the battery out between each, I can get three sessions maybe four short sessions out of it.
I always unplug the patch cord when not playing the guitar, yet It seems like the battery drains anyway when left in. So I take it out. I'm going to try rechargeables.

It's in an as-new condition, with the soft case and cost me £650 (about $800)! Affordasonic and some! Great video by the way, which has helped me to understand the way this guitar thinks! Excellent review of the Affordasonic! I have one, and watched this video both before and after I bought and played it. On my first viewing, it helped educate me on the various sounds that came out of the guitar. On the second viewing, I definitely agreed with most of your assessments on the playability and sounds of the guitar. I have been playing guitar for 55+ years, mostly electric (Les Pauls and Strats), and I love the Affordasonic, and find it very useful when performing live in a duo format. The guitar feels great, and is very playable for me, especially the neck. As a mostly electric lead player, to me this guitar sounds like an acoustic, and plays like an electric. Thanks for your terrific review!

You really hit on a lot of good points. I played the American Acoustasonic for awhile and loved it but I just couldn’t afford it. But I did order this one. I actually like the electric sounds. It isn’t the same as a real Tele but it has it’s own voice. The thing that sold me is that I can get an acoustic sound on a guitar that is easier on my arthritic hands. After all these years I need something easier to play and this fits the bill. Also I like playing quietly while watching TV and my Martin is just too annoying for my wife.

Just picked up the player Tele and have played it on stage with no complaints. I’ve owned the US jazzmaster since it released. The MIM is just as nice. Fret work is clean, zero QC issues at all. As far as the rosewood vs ebony on the fretboard and saddle, they’re both really nice. I did use the 3rd position (Body sensor) on the USA a lot but even without that feature the player has great tones available. I’m a live looping performer so the ability to switch between acoustic and electric tones is great and its such a smooth playing instrument. The price difference is not reflected in the build quality at all. I also play on my church worship team and the acoustasonic sounds great in that context as well.
Great review! Watched it before making my purchase and it helped with the decision to buy another USA or try the player. The players a great instrument.

If you’re having to fight high action, simply adjust the micro tilt to get a more electric guitar feeling action. All you need is to loosen strings (use a capo to avoid a string to fall off) loosen the two lower neck screws, and tighten 1/8th clockwise. Tighten neck, string to pitch then check. Take your time, multiple fine adjustments may be needed.

Great review. The simplicity, 9v battery and lower price of this model is tempting me. I think the reduced sound settings would make it easier to dial in preferred sounds, particularly with a looper, within a live situation. This could just be me- I have enough difficulty deciding what sound settings I want on my Stratocaster! For home recordings, pub jams and church worship I can see this being a hit at the price point

Love it, nice and light compared to the Godin and while the A6 was a joy to play, was overly busy with sliders and teeny knobs. @@jarnobot I bought a Fender El Rio back in the eighties. Thin body, plays like an electric but would feedback and the tone was neither good as an electric or acoustic. I have bought the Player Tele and the 3A and 3B sound like an acoustic that's been mic'd up with 2A and 2B sounding more like a modern acoustic plugged in. My reason for liking it is however the weight of the thing and it being so thin it's a joy to play even unplugged as a practice instruments. My use will mainly be using it to record music and while the electric Tele tones are not exactly the same they are quite usable.

I bought an American Jazzmaster with black paisley about two weeks ago. I played it and played it, and I kept it pretty much on position three the entire time. I just liked it the best.
I returned it because I just could not justify the expense for a guitar that I just used in one position. However, I do want to say that I loved the way it played and sounded.
I just ordered the affordasonic, and I am waiting for it to arrive. My expectation, is to get a guitar that is its own thing; just like it’s more expensive counterpart. I am not a purist by any means. Approaching instruments like a purist makes one miss out on nuance. I have read about people not liking certain aspects of this guitar. Cool. Don’t get one. Buy a tele if you want a pure tele sound (just to be honest here, I find someone complains about those as well on reviews and forums even though they are pretty much the same across the board considering price point) I digress. If you want pure acoustic or electric sounds, buy an acoustic or an electric. A $1200 electric or acoustic is going to sound pretty good. Get one of those if you don’t like this, but understand comparing those specific instruments to a jack of all trades, but master of none guitar is like comparing a bike to a motorcycle. They are not the same, and their purpose (even though similar) are not meant to be the same either even though they both have two wheels and require balance.
I like these guitars. Besides, it is just me playing the guitar for fun. I am the only one who cares about the sounds coming out. My dog just sits and sleeps next to me, and is indifferent to how amazing the solo I just played was, nor does he care about the intricacies of the electronics. I am just trying to keep things in perspective here. Thanks for reading this. Just my thoughts. Good review, Guitar Geek.

Fab review. I played one today. I like it very very much and I agree with everything that's being said here. I think this is my next guitar purchase. Why? There are several reasons for this. It is indeed a joy to hold and play, I can imagine it being especially well suited for late-night strumming on the couch when one's significant others went to bed. It plays close enough to a real acoustic so that you can practice a lot of your acoustic stuff. It is light and compact, you can imagine singing along with it at parties with friends - ideally plugged in (a small good quality Bluetooth speaker would do), but even without that, it's quite alright if you don't sing too loud. I travel quite a lot and it seems like the ideal travel guitar. As I said, compact and light and not too expensive to break your heart (and budget) if something happened to it. You can strum along in your hotel room... But if the opportunity to play in a pub arises, you're more than covered out of the box. That said - if you really want to sound better than most people playing electrified acoustics, you just add one more element - an IR loader pedal.

If I,m still around. So it is just something to play and practice around the house and probably some home videos. I will consider a loop and maybe a solid state amp.

Thanks for introducing me to the Nembrini Acoustic Voice Guitar Preamp! It sounds great paired up with the Acoustisonic. I'll definitely use them together for some of my "live in studio" recordings. It's no substitute to the harmonics and overtones of mic'ing my Taylor, but it's not too shabby for several uses!

Thanks for the video! I have already bought the American version of Affordacastor. American not so affordable. Kind of wished I waited, I would much rather have the 9volt battery instead of lithium. I am a church musician and wanted a guitar that is easier and more comfortable to play. I was previously playing Martin acoustic/electric concert guitar. I have never played electric so it is a learning experience a much lighter touch, but much easier on my aging hands!

Affordas! indeed and greetings from Adelaide AUSTralia. I know I'm a year overdue but, nevertheless, I just wanted to acknowledge your so very intelligent, witty and eloquently balanced review.
I bought an American model the instant one became available in 2019 and have loved it from day1. I've always played it through the "Normal" channel on my deluxe reverb. I put D'Addario 10's on it to give a bit more of a tele feel. I believe you are based in Austria (lucky you) - may I ask where? Thanks again and all the best with your channel.

Wow - Affordasonic all the way, Dude! This is the video of yours (I‘ve seen a handful) that instantly made me hit „Subscribe“. Why? Because your take on this (and believe me, I‘ve seen ALL of the videos on it so far) is the one that does the absolutely best job of summing up the instrument‘s value and potential as well as downsides for real, live musicians interested in knowing whether getting it makes sense for them or not. Your sound samples, choice of sound comparisons, points emphasized (and not), amps used (busking acoustic plus electric for good measure), astutely and concisely worded descriptions of features and good/bad uses for the sounds, etc. - all this and more shows you actually put a lot of time and effort into trying to condense things down to something the community can really find value in! Too much pathetic gushing? Maybe. But I‘m not the fanboy type - just a guy wanting to give credit where credit is due. And to qualify my gushy enthusiasm, all should take note of the fact that I own (and sometimes love) the American Tele version of this guitar, and picked it up back when it first hit the market. I bought it for tons of cash, despite being a 98% acoustic-only player (stage solo and duo plus solo busking). And you know what? I‘m probably going to sell my U.S. model and get this one, instead? Crazy? Nope, not at all. You pointed out most of the reasons to justify just that. And I‘ll add that I won‘t miss the body resonance setting on the U.S. version that‘s missing on the Mexican one. Sure, it‘s great for body-tapping artists, but I‘m not one of them, and tapping on the piezo is good enough for me. And I found the body res sound to be a bit weird on my PA, and prone to feedback at greater volumes. As for the other sounds (10 in total), I‘ll say that your video and all the others I‘ve watched confirm that the new model has slightly warmer, more organic tones. The U.S. version has always bothered me by being a bit too harsh and/or boomy, depending on the setting, and not really close enough to my vision of the acoustic sound. The Player version seems to nail it better, meaning I can probably make better use of it out-of-the-box, i.e. without pedals to tweak the EQ and more. Should be even better for busking than the U.S. version! (Although I will say that the American version sounds pretty darn good through a Bose S1 Pro, as an amp that colors sound in a deeper/darker direction.) Nough said. Just wanted to toss in my two cents‘ worth of praise for your review, as well as my experience with the Affordasonic (haha!) - and by the way, Fender should definitely give you a huge check and thank you for coining that brilliant nickname for the new guitar! Mark my words (or rather, your words): This name is going to spread on the Web like wildfire, thanks to your genius! ;-) P.S. Brilliant of you to include the new Cube Street 2 in this review! Not so brilliant that you‘re making me want to spend money on it, too, despite having the Bose S1 Pro. But heck, me „needing“ a much lighter busking amp is something my lady is sure to understand, right? ;-) One question though: Will the mic (vocal) preamp and the speaker stand up to robust male singing, without cracking up too readily, or without sounding anemic?

Left side the devil voice goes like „oh come on you where fascinated by the American here is the affordasonic - go buy it.“ On the right side the rational voice says „No way it is still 1.200 bucks - think of what you could buy for this money in the future beside feeding the kids.“

You helped me to decide to invest in this. Everything that you have described, both good and bad, is there in my black affordasonic that arrived just today. I think the thing that struck me most was just how light this is. Okay, in truth I am comparing it to an American Tele, so it is a totally different beast. But my very first thoughts when I held it were, 'This is my guitar. It feels like its mine. It feels part of me'. Ive never had that instant feeling with any other guitar Ive owned. It suits me. It probably won't suit everyone. I would imagine that acoustic players will probably show disdain, but electric guitar players will recognise an instrument that feels familiar to them. In truth, Im still looking for my favourite sound, but I know its there.

I’ve been hankering after one of these for a little while now, but they’re still a bit too expensive for me. Fender recently knocked 30% off the white and yellow versions (presumably the ones that sell the least) but I really want that lovely burst finish. I was tempted to go for a yellow one but my wife correctly pointed out I’d end up annoyed that I didn’t buy the one I really wanted. So the wait continues… Hurry up and give us a discount on the nice colours Fender!
As I’m in the market, I’ve been watching lots of videos about it, and this is probably the most comprehensive I’ve seen. So I joined the end of the video club #affordasonic

From Leo: Six years ago, the Taylor T5 and the Godin A6 were the choices. Now that Fender is in the price point of the Godin A6, they will probably become competitive. I also thought the older, American model was over the top with the software modeling. I will still keep my A6 Ultra, where the humbucker gives a more traditional jazz tone, but it would be a more difficult choice if I were in that market today. No doubt, all of them do FAR better with a dedicated acoustic Amplifier. Even a DI into he PA board sounds better than an electric guitar amp. Good demo. PS. I don't know why they don't offer a natural spruce color, more common with acoustic guitars.

Nice overview. As someone that plays more electric guitar than acoustic guitar, I found the acoustic sounds acceptable and useable, but it's the electric sounds that would get me to buy this guitar It's not that I found the electric sounds exceptional, it's more that they worked well with the acoustic sounds so that switch from one to the other wasn't jarring or weird. You may have not liked the sound of the electric pickup, but I did like it even through the Boss Cube Street II amp (BTW I'm looking forward to your review of this amp). I especially liked the 2B sound (is that a blend of the piezo and pickup or just the piezo going through some kind of crunch circuit?) It would have been nice if they added a way to blend the electric pickup and the more acoustic sounds or split the sounds of the electric & acoustic sounds, but maybe that would have added to the cost.
The USA made Acoustasonic held little interest for me, because of the price and overkill on acoustic sound options (they all sounded pretty much the same to me). The price on this MIM model is still a little high for me, but more accessible and gives me something to add to my want list. I think it's a very cool looking guitiar.
    Thanks for a great review.

I just recently became more interested in these guitars thanks to seeing Def Leppard perform at the stadium concert and both Joe Elliot and Phil Collen used acoustasonic tele’s for 2 songs. I have a full range of electric guitars and a couple of acoustics in my home studio. I am more of an electric guitar player who likes to throw in the acoustic here and there. I’ve been trying to decide if I wanted the American or Mexican model and thanks to this video the “affordasonic” will be my choice. All I have to do is decide on a color. I like the burst and the black as well. Thanks from across the pond!

After research and hearing the various Acoustaconic versions I decided to pick ... a Godin XTSA. Reason? The acoustic sound in Fender is simulated - it is not the real sound of the instrument. The electric sound options are also quite limited. Whereas Godin has the real sound of three different pickups (HSH), authentic piezo pickup + 13pin synth output. This gives so much more versatility and a better sound. If I want a simulated acoustic or electric, there's plenty in either Boss GP10 or Roland GR55 synth, both of which I own. And there's obviously much more that you can do - add sampled or synthetic instruments, have any user tuning you like, have 12-string, have an octave down or up etc.
I am just wondering why Godin is so underestimated. Maybe there's not so much hype about it or the advertising is not strong enough. But the sound, the quality and versatility are really something that Godin can be proud of. If you have never played one, try it (either the XTSA or the ACS series with either nylon or steel strings; there's also LGXT with a different pickup setup than XTSA as well as various A6 models).
